First Look: Brad Pitt in Quentin Tarantino's 'Inglourious Basterds'

Bradpittbasterdsquentin_lHere’s your first look at Brad Pitt in costume on the set of Quentin Tarantino’s Inglorious Basterds. Pitt has the starring role in this remake of the Dirty Dozen-ish WWII adventure as Lt. Aldo Raine, known to the Germans as Aldo the Apache for his practice of scalping his victims. (Sounds like a combo of his Troy and Legends of the Fall characters.)

Show of hands: Who’s as excited about this movie as we are?

UPDATE: Yes, "Inglourious Basterds" is Tarantino’s spelling of the title in the current shooting script. He had spelled it correctly in previous incarnations of the screenplay, including the version EW reported on in July.

Hmmm…did QT spell “Basterds” incorrectly on purpose?

  • HookedOnPhonics

Did QT mis-spell it, or is Gary Sussman just having a little fun? I guess “basturds” would have been too obvious!

  • Jeff

That is how QT is spelling it as of now.

Spelling mistakes aside, I am most defintely NOT looking forward to this. QT hasn’t done anything that wasn’t ridiculously self-indulgent since, well, ever. Seeing him do a knock-off of a knock-off really isn’t doing anything for me.

  • Sean

Yes, im sure QT misspelled bastards by accident, because, you know, there aren’t a hundred people looking at the spelling each and every day who didn’t mention it to him or something.

as long as Brad is in it and he’s enjoying himself at work….who the hell cares. when was the last time you enjoyed being on the job? I supposed he does miss the family filming so far away.

Tarantino is a fraud. How long are people going to allow him to rip off movies he watched, cobble them together, and call them his own? He made one original movie — his best — “Pulp Fiction,” but after that it’s been nothing but other people’s ideas thrown together into his own masturbatory fan-boy pastiche. He’s nothing but a movie geek who’s tricked people into thinking he’s talented. So he takes every Japanese samurai movie he ever watched and cut and pastes it into a screenplay and the world goes wild. Now he takes every WWII movie he ever liked and uses a little tape and glue to make it into a three-hour film and they’ll say he’s reinventing the genre. He was also in love with Brain De Palma and he has truly become him — boldly ripping off other filmmakers and somehow being called a genius. What an unbelievable scam.

Did it ever occur to you people that they purposely spelled it basterds?

Jon, chill out. You’re not wrong – but his movies are still GOOD. Some people actually enjoy counting the parts and what they reference. We are fanboys ourselves, I guess.

Plus he opens up the mainstream viewers to other movies they never would have ever watched in a million years. I was 15 when Pulp Fiction came out – and my parents were incredibly controlling over what I watched as a kid. I never would have in a million years ever watched a Bruce Lee movie if I hadn’t first seen Kill Bill. Never. I was WAY too young for the B movies referenced in Grindhouse. MAYBE this will do the same for war movies.

  • Bob

for some reason I am not looking forward to this.

  • Josh

Tarantino has been working on this since before Kill Bill so I think it is going to be great. My favorite actor with one of my favorite directors. Awesome.
