First Look: Brad Pitt in Quentin Tarantino's 'Inglourious Basterds'

Bradpittbasterdsquentin_lHere’s your first look at Brad Pitt in costume on the set of Quentin Tarantino’s Inglorious Basterds. Pitt has the starring role in this remake of the Dirty Dozen-ish WWII adventure as Lt. Aldo Raine, known to the Germans as Aldo the Apache for his practice of scalping his victims. (Sounds like a combo of his Troy and Legends of the Fall characters.)

Show of hands: Who’s as excited about this movie as we are?

UPDATE: Yes, "Inglourious Basterds" is Tarantino’s spelling of the title in the current shooting script. He had spelled it correctly in previous incarnations of the screenplay, including the version EW reported on in July.

Hmmm…did QT spell “Basterds” incorrectly on purpose?

  • HookedOnPhonics

Did QT mis-spell it, or is Gary Sussman just having a little fun? I guess “basturds” would have been too obvious!

  • Jeff

That is how QT is spelling it as of now.

  • Englureais Bustird

Spelling mistakes aside, I am most defintely NOT looking forward to this. QT hasn’t done anything that wasn’t ridiculously self-indulgent since, well, ever. Seeing him do a knock-off of a knock-off really isn’t doing anything for me.

  • Sean

Yes, im sure QT misspelled bastards by accident, because, you know, there aren’t a hundred people looking at the spelling each and every day who didn’t mention it to him or something.

Have you guys ever watched the original? It SUUUUUUUCKs. I totally agree with Chris Nashawaty’s review and always have hands down.

  • Joanne

as long as Brad is in it and he’s enjoying himself at work….who the hell cares. when was the last time you enjoyed being on the job? I supposed he does miss the family filming so far away.

Tarantino is a fraud. How long are people going to allow him to rip off movies he watched, cobble them together, and call them his own? He made one original movie — his best — “Pulp Fiction,” but after that it’s been nothing but other people’s ideas thrown together into his own masturbatory fan-boy pastiche. He’s nothing but a movie geek who’s tricked people into thinking he’s talented. So he takes every Japanese samurai movie he ever watched and cut and pastes it into a screenplay and the world goes wild. Now he takes every WWII movie he ever liked and uses a little tape and glue to make it into a three-hour film and they’ll say he’s reinventing the genre. He was also in love with Brain De Palma and he has truly become him — boldly ripping off other filmmakers and somehow being called a genius. What an unbelievable scam.

Did it ever occur to you people that they purposely spelled it basterds?

  • Anitamargarita

Jon, chill out. You’re not wrong – but his movies are still GOOD. Some people actually enjoy counting the parts and what they reference. We are fanboys ourselves, I guess.

  • Anitamargarita

Plus he opens up the mainstream viewers to other movies they never would have ever watched in a million years. I was 15 when Pulp Fiction came out – and my parents were incredibly controlling over what I watched as a kid. I never would have in a million years ever watched a Bruce Lee movie if I hadn’t first seen Kill Bill. Never. I was WAY too young for the B movies referenced in Grindhouse. MAYBE this will do the same for war movies.

  • Bob

for some reason I am not looking forward to this.

  • Josh

Tarantino has been working on this since before Kill Bill so I think it is going to be great. My favorite actor with one of my favorite directors. Awesome.

  • someone

basterds is spelled this way b/c the media wont advertise it if it is spelled correctly. Just like how they wont advertise ‘zach and mira make a porno’ b/c of the porno phrase.

  • Nix

    Not excited, but mildly interested.

Remake of an obsure war movie that very few ever saw here in Italy, directed by a less-than -brilliant director. Mmmmh….

  • Connie Farbelle

Gotta agree with Jon on this one

  • Adrian James

Having read the screenplay, this is indeed excellent. Possibly another Oscar shot for Tarantino.

  • Nathan

Sounds like it’s Jon’s time of the month.

  • Anne

Really looking forward to this film. Brad and his family are said by local sources to be enjoying their stay in Berlin.

  • delo21

Kind of looking forward to it. Didnt like death proof to much. Burned out on his dialogue. He has to change his style a little bit it gets repetitive.

This will be a good movie, and as usual most of these comments are negative. Quentin Tarantino makes cool movies, and this is no exception. here is why (thanks harry) The first big thing we learn is that Quentin has been writing almost non-stop on INGLORIOUS BASTARDS – and that the premise is the basic jumping off point from Enzo’s original – that you had a bunch of hardened criminals on a military transport during World War II – that got ambushed by the Nazis. Everyone but the criminals gets killed and the prisoners decide to make their way to neutral Switzerland – and must fight the Nazis and the Allies to get there. It’s a true No Man’s Land scenario.
Well, as Quentin has been writing this – he’s done so much research into the actual events of World War II as well as the cinema of World War 2 – that the story kept growing and growing. It became too big for one film – so he’s turned it into 2. INGLORIOUS BASTARDS will be two movies.” isnt that cool! 2 more awesome QT flicks

  • Yogi

    Brad looks HOTT!!

  • amy

I am soooooo sick of Angie and Brad. Yuck! Just go away to France, please! And I agree with Jon, Tarantino is a fraud.

  • maxwell19596

actually i’m not so sure about my news it was old and i can’t seem to find any other mention of whether it is one or two films haha

  • Riley

Anything that Tarantino touches F***in Rocks!!! I can’t wait to see it!

  • Nancy

JON TAKE SOME LORAZAPAM!! Tarantino is a fabulously talented, slightly-deranged mind. It takes a person of uncertain sanity to be able to think of some of the fabulous sh– that this director-writer has created. Tarantino is like an Edgar Allen Poe, creepy but completely mesmerizing in his work. I say BRAVO…..keep it coming….we can wait for more.
