Preach it, Slezak! That movie is one of the great under-appreciated gems of the 1970s. It is fanfreakingtastic and makes me laugh and laugh and laaaaaugh!

One of my favorite movies of all time…

  • Steezy

Seriously, one of my favorite movies of all time…and I think there are like a hundred better lines you could have chosen!
Judy: I know I’m different, but from now on I’m going to try and be the same.
    Howard: The same as what?
Judy: The same as people who aren’t different.

  • Nancy

Actually, Eunice (played by the late, great Madeline Kahn) asked that question. Judy answered: “Propriety; noun: conformity to established standards of behavior or manner, suitability, rightness, or justice. See ‘etiquette.’”
(Okay, so I totally copied that from le imdb.) Great movie.

Thank you for quoting “What’s Up, Doc?” which I feel is one of the most underrated movies ever. I love this movie and I love the quote. Good Work!

  • mandi (not bierly)

    awesome choice.
“please don’t count, eunice, i hate it when you count.”

  • Slezak

Nancy, We are both correct in this case. Eunice indeed asks Judy early in the movie if she knows the meaning of propriety, but later, when Judy finds Eunice in Mr. Bannister’s bedroom, she turns it back around. I’m also partial to “What do you think I am? A piece of ripe fruit you can squeeze the juice out of and cast aside?” And “I adore anyone who adores anyone who adores Emerson. Your turn!”

  • Nancy

I have been schooled. How could I have doubted you? You are le man, as always. J’apologize.

  • Slezak

Pish-posh, Nancy! No apologies necessary. I adore anyone who quotes Eunice Burns.

I can’t believe it! Not even a month ago I bought this movie and my fiancee was all “no way in hell am I watching a Barbra Striesand movie blah, blah, blah.” Well I made him anyway when I reminded him that he thought the Chris Guest movies would be lame as well and he loved them. So we watched it and he thought it was hilarious!! When I am nagging him about soemthing, he always says, “Yes, Eunice”. it’s true love.

An adorable film…I adore anyone who adores it. And just to add one more quote: “Snakes, as you know, live in mortal fear of… tile.”

  • Nancy

    Je blush. Here’s another one:
Judy: Love means never having to say you’re sorry.
Howard: That’s the dumbest thing I ever heard. [inside joke for those who have seen Love Story]

  • marilinda

is it just me, or does babs look like Toni Braxton in this picture.

  • Cara

Ah, Judy–the ultimate Manic Pixie Dream Girl. Love that movie so freakin’ much.
    Judy: I can’t see!
Howard: There’s nothing to see, really. We’re inside a Chinese dragon.

  • Dahlia

I LOVE this movie. Totally grew up on it. Another favorite: “Bannister, as in ’sliding down the…”

  • corinne

Steezy: that’s my fave line too.

  • jenngar

My favorite part is towards the end when they are in the courtroom. The jude (Judy’s dad) is rattling off the counts , “That’s breaking & entering. That’s grand larceny” when he utters the best line in the movie.
Eunice: They tried to molest me.
    Judge: That’s unbelievable.

  • Cheryl

“How much is it if it isn’t buffered?”
Said by Howard in the gift shop after Judy sneaks a radio in with his purchase of aspirin.

  • Cheryl

Not a quote, but I love it when during the chase scene, several cars run into a VW bus parked on the street. The street side is all bashed in but the other side looks perfect. A guy comes out of his house, opens the door to get in, and the thing falls over. Hilarious!
