Maybe you wouldn’t go back to high school, but I’m guessing some movie or TV show has made you wish you were 18 again, if only for a second. So which one is it, and why?
The thought definitely crossed my mind during Nick & Norah’s Infinite Playlist (pictured), thanks to the always-charming Michael Cera, and the fact that Nick’s gay pals would have loved me.
I wonder if, given the opportunity when I was that age, I would’ve crushed on Cera instead of Keanu Reeves (Speed) and Brad Pitt (Legends of the Fall)…
Your turn.

Every time I catch “Clueless” on TV, I automatically wish I was back in high school, wearing my knee-high socks/stockings and using the phrase “As if!” like it never went out of style…. I miss those years, but at the same time, I’m glad that they are behind me!
wanting to be young again is an everyday wish for me at times… to relate with characters in this movie, juno or degrassi: tng. to be able to shop in a hot topic without saying it’s for my niece. and being able to like my chemical romance and not be pushing 32.
Freaks and Geeks always makes me nostalgic…I can’t help but wish I’d known a guy like Nick Andopolis (but then I realize that I probably did and, like Lindsay, I just didn’t notice him in “that way”).
I don’t know if watching Mean Girls necessarily made me yearn for pre-pubescence, but I certainly wished I attended that high school.
“Almost Famous” made me wish I was back to my teen years in the ’70’s. If I had it to do all over again, I’d drop out of school and go on the road with a rock band.
Though not really High school, Greek does this for me. It’s close enough to high school and it’s all the fun parts without the draw backs.
Dazed and confused brings me back to the day
Dazed and Confused does it for me. I wasn’t even a thought in my parents minds in the 70s when the movie takes place, but something about that last day of school – big party – becoming a senior – etc…its just awesome!
Maybe its just me…but i don’t a) watch a lot of television and b) haven’t seen a show that makes me wish i was younger/ back in HS…granted im 24 and a new mommy….but i dont think that anything could make me wish to go back to a time when things were of a micro-cosim and what you wore/ did was judged by your peers un fairly. The only thing I wish I could do back in HS is go back to class and take full advantage of a free education and actually listen to the wisdom and counsel of my teachers and other staff of my old school.
I second the “clueless” love. I also wished I was a teenager while watching “The O.C.” and recently, “Gosspi Girl” – but only if I got to hang out with the Ryan and the b*tches on GG.
I used to work in a videostore with my best friend (she still is today!) that I am reminded of everytime I watch Empire Records. We had the best of time and I just wish we had our very own Lucas and Marc!!! Damn the man, save the Empire!
i could write a book on the tv shows and movies that make me want to be a kid again. but to offer something different to the table, i’m going to throw in a musical and a book series.
i recently saw the new broadway musical 13. (no, it’s not based on the movie.) it’s about a 13 year old kid who gets moved from new york city to indiana when his parents divorce, and is faced with the social struggles of starting over in a new school. i left the theater wanting to high five someone, singing the score in my head and wishing i could go back to that point in my life with what i know now and make better choices.
on a more girlier front, has anyone ever read the clique novels? well, if you haven’t, you are totally missing out. it’s like the book version of mean girls – all about a bunch of junior high girls who are constantly holding on to their alpha status in the war against become a LBR (that’d be “loser beyond repair”). they’re super fun!
yes, i’m 27 years old.
Cartoons.
Whenever I hear about a cool new cartoon show or CGI movie, I wish it wouldn’t be so bad that I watch them at this age.
Dazed and Confused for sure
The Twilight series… but only if I could be a teenager in Forks and meet the Cullens!
To start, I’m not that old…yet. Although the fact that I just said that probably makes me old. But I am still in my 20’s, so I consider that relatively young. Anyway, Greek makes me want to go back and do college all over again; except this time I would try to enjoy it. When WE was playing Felicity, I watched it religiously, and it had the same effect on me.
My So-Called Life. I wanted to redo high school and take more risks. I wanted to go out with Jordan and have fun with Ray Anne and Ricky. http://popculturecurmudgeon.blogspot.com
Can’t Hardly Wait – that movie just makes me feel like anything’s possible. Also Friday Night Lights. And while I’m not too much older than the characters they portray (I’m almost 22), my college career is coming to and end and I keep wondering “Where did high school go? Did I make the right choices when I lived it?”
The Breakfast Club. Although I was born around the time the film came out, when I see it now I get nostalgic and wish I could re-do high school. I would want to break free of the labels, much like Judd, Molly, and the gang did.
Ninedaves, as a girl who moved to Indiana as an 11 year old, I would LOVE to see that play! I didn’t move from NYC, but still, from a midwestern city to the Indiana countryside. Culture. Shock. I may have to get the soundtrack. I hope this play becomes a huge hit and tours. Nothing makes me want to go back to high school, though. Overall, I had a great time, but I wouldn’t want to go back for anything.

Veronica Mars and especially Clueless. Clueless came out my Junior year of h.s and everyone in my school was eating rice cakes and wearing short skirts with those knee high tights.
Dazed and Confused. I always get depressed after watching it bc it makes me realize my keg party days are over.
Before Sunrise reminds me of traveling in college and the possiblity of romance with a cute stranger. My first glass of wine on a study abroad in Rome? Never been better.
The Wonder Years is the only acceptable answer.
Degrassi: The Next Generation for sure. I mean, I would so own that school with my charm and sarcasm if I was younger.
I totally related to Swingers when it came out-I was that age, going through a break-up, going out etc and when I watch it now it makes me nostalgic, but just for a second.

I’m in college, but I already miss high school. Say Anything makes me nostalgic for the time right after graduation before I moved on to the next phase of my life. I watched shows like The OC while I was in high school, and it’s so weird to think that I’m older than those characters now.
