I know I’m supposed to be grateful that I live in a country where a woman can talk about her "Gandhi" wax job, on CBS of all places, but it freaked me out on Friday’s premiere of The Ex List (watch the episode here, read EW’s official review of the show here). Also probably not helping: Vivian (Alexandra Breckenridge) lifting up her dress to show off her Gandhi to her skeptical friend Bella (Grey’s Anatomy’s Elizabeth Reaser, pictured). Should I feel guilty that I wouldn’t be a good enough friend to look?
The wax debate aside, how did you feel about the The Ex List? I think Friday is a good night for it — it fills that escapist-yet-relatively-smart void left by the cancelation of ABC’s Men in Trees. Even though I’m not 100 percent sold on the regular cast, I like that Bella’s psychic-induced quest to find the Mr. Right she’s already dated — and marry him within a year or face a lifetime alone — should allow for some hot guest stars. (Eric Balfour’s never done it for me, but he came close with that punk look in the premiere.) I’ll keep taping. For now. As long as it stays on Fridays following Ghost Whisperer.

I thought the worst part was when Vivian said her boyfriend liked her with sores and scabs. Ugh it gave me the shivers just thinking about it.
I said just this morning (after having watched the show last night on TiVo) that I could see this show replacing Men in Trees as my chick show. Good call!
Love her, liked it (the show). Looking forward to all six episodes with Diane Ruggiero’s fingerprints on them, assuming they air. As for the episodes beyond her tenure … we’ll see. But I’m not hopeful.
I think the whole waxing storyline just creeped me out. I’m surprised that CBS thought that it was appropriate for prime time.
I have to say I really enjoyed this show. I’m looking forward to future episodes. Although, it does leave a timeissue but if these writers stay this good it shouldn’t be an issue.
let’s keep this show on.
So good to read that, Mandi. I thought maybe girlfriends had changed since I got married a decade ago. You know, something “you young people do”. (Okay! I’m channeling my mom–I’m going to be 40 this year.) Anyway, I liked the show. Some zippy patter and I actually laughed a few times. Looking forward to the next one.
aw come on…it wouldn’t happen in real life but it was funny as sin. Girls may not SHOW each other, but we sure do talk about it!
I loved it. I watched it on the DVR and I loved it. Nice, escapist, Friday night fluff.
I was surprised that I really enjoyed it. I could have lived without the waxing storyline, but the show itself was really funny, and painfully honest. It’s a jungle out there! And that last scene with the song — oh, man, i wanted to crawl into a hole and hide myself. Can’t wait to see what goes happens next.
Of course, if i like it, that means it will be canceled. Sorry about t hat.
Mandi I am totally with you, this was the first time I ever found Eric Balfour sexy!
The waxing stuff was icky, but I LOVED the show.
Only problem I can foresee is that they’re going to pull out a new hottie guy every week when we all know “the one” will end up being the one she shares doggie custody with.
I’d probably prefer the show if she dated several at a time so that it would be a big mystery.
I did not like Elizabeth Reaser at all on Greys so almost didnt watch but I really really loved…I like the relationship with the friends and the actresses who played the sister and the actress who plays Vivan is great, much better then when she was on Dirt, I think it has promise for sure and will keep watching. Plus her ex who she shares Rufus with is AMAZING to look at
A nice replacement show for people feeling October Road withdrawal. I liked it, but figure she’s either going to end up with her immediate-ex or her roommate who is dating “Gandhi-girl.”
there’s no way i will ever be looking at my bff’s vajayjay. it’s about as likely as me seeing another episode–the co-stars are boring.
when my sister was in the hospital, she insisted that I see her scar…which was just above her surgically shaved area…even though I tried to turn my head away. And apparently because of the pain medication she didn’t remember doing that…and it is something I am trying to forget…
Sorry – can’t watch the show that NT used to push out Moonlight.
I was very uncomfortable with the waxing story line, which could be because I was watching the episode with my mom. Yeah, it was awkward. Other than that, I actually really liked the episode and will watch it again.
Men in Trees was WAY WAY better.
WOW. Is that show on ABC or Cinemax?
I’m normally all about free expression and limiting censorship on tv. But dude, she gets a waxed and shows it off to another woman on network tv? WOW. Even I’m a little stunned and raunched-out by that.

i’m watching it now and I like it a lot!!! i really shouldn’t – i usually hate shows like this, but elizabeth reaser is really good!!!!!! it’s nice to not see her in grey’s (and before twilight!!!!)
I actually really liked this show! There were moments that made me laugh out loud, and I loved the Eric Balfour revenge thing. You had to cringe and feel bad for the main character, but it was still awesome. I really didn’t mind the waxing story. I think some commenters on here are a bit prudish!
Ugh I hate when shows try to be outrageous just to do it. So disgusting how they even went so far as to do the merkin thing. Not funny and definitely not realistic.
Ugh! I wouldn’t look, and I don’t even know of any of my friends who would want to show off a wax job anyway! That’s weird, and defintely not prime time material! Other than that, I thought the show was okay. I might watch it again.
Bella’s Ex Elliott, with whom she shares her dog Rufus is unbelievably HAWT. I mean, seriously he is a walking wet dream. The show is quirky, but even I told my sisters about the Ghandi bit, and they were like, on a CBS show? REALLY? But seriously more interaction between Bella and Elliott….preferrably when Elliott is shirtless…
