Not since Winona Ryder almost ended up in the slammer has a cause affected me so profoundly and deeply. It’s time to free Kate Walsh. The talented actress, so witty and intelligent in her talk show appearances, has done her time in the prison known as Private Practice and she deserves to be emancipated. Send her back to Grey’s Anatomy, move her on to Wisteria Lane, make her the mother on How I Met Your Mother. I don’t really care. Private Practice has become unwatchable. Apparently, many of you agree: The show captured only 8 million viewers or so last week, according to initial ratings. Are you frustrated with the series, too? Is it time to put the show out of its misery? And most importantly, will anyone volunteer to print the “Free Kate Walsh” t-shirts?

i really wouldn’t point to ratings as to substantiate what’s really good. After all, more Americans chose to watch the insipid “Knight Riger” Over the sublime “Pushing Daisies”. To be honest I have seen many worse shows than Private Practice.

As long as the back of the shirt features pictures of Taye Diggs, Tim Daly and Audra McDonald. They all need to be liberated from this crapfest!

I second that, she’s earth scorching hot and not a bad actress to boot. In fact the show doesn’t have bad acting, just writing and premise!

Private Practice’s premiere was better written and more interesting than the 2 pieces of fluff you refer. While Desperate Housewives is still fun, you sound like a Grey’s rabid fan that can’t stand the fact that it’s premiere was a boring piece of excrement.
I have to say, PP is still on my DVR list, but Fringe has been deleted. And Chuck and Ugly Betty are teetering on the edge — they get a couple more chances…
Private Practice was SO much better last week than the show that succumbed to the writer’s strike. Addison has her backbone back and was once again dealing with critical surgery. Ethical issues were raised and explored that could provide fantastic dinner table discussions. I was really impressed by the way they resurrected this series. I just hope it gets a fair chance.
I like it – it isnt as absurd as Grey’s.
The Private Practice premiere was AMAZING. Viewers everywhere were talking about much improved it was. Shonda has set up some amazing stuff for Kate in episodes to come.
I for one am anxious to see more and can’t wait to see the Addison storylines be explored.
I will lend my voice to this cause! Kate Walsh rocks yet she truly blows in this horrible idea for a spin off! She could be a great comedienne or a sexy high-end thief or a naughty villain in any TV show or film…. Free Kate Walsh!
As long she doesn’t come back to Grey’s Anatomy, I couldn’t care less where she goes. And she’s not that talented.

Why don’t you at least give us a few reasons why the show is so bad? I mean, I know it scored like a “D” in EW’s review of the premiere. But you could at least recycle some of the reasons the review said it was so bad into your own article.
Private Practice was really good last week. I don’t know what your problem is.
It needs a better lead in than Pushing Daisies (I do like it). Private Practice was the only show out of the 3 that gained in the half hour.
I watched PP last wk. I didnt like the first season but thought the premiere was Excellant!

I adore Kate Walsh. I don’t understand why critics bash Private Practice – there are far worse shows deserving of such venom – Knight Rider to name one ! Maybe Greys fans simply see it as an easy target to vent their own frustrations with the mother ship ?
Many of the reviews & people who watched it say the S2 premiere was far better written, developed & more enjoyable than Greys & I agree.
And it still remains the most successful of the ABC Wednesday night line up & the only show out of the 3 to gain viewers in it’s hour. Give it a better lead-in ABC !
I agree that Kate Walsh is simply fantastic & a natural entertaining interviewee. I have just watched her trying to coerce Martha Stewart into forcing an opinion – “Oh say it, say it Martha, say it” !
Given Kate’s background in improv, Burn Manhattan, Assscat, friends with Amy Poehler etc. I do hope she does more comedy in the future because she is incredibly funny.
I agree, the spin off was a huge mistake on many levels. i’d love to watch kate walsh go back to Grey’s. Maybe replace the annoying Erica hann.

I agree that the first Season wasnt the best thing but did you see the premiere of the second season? IT was the best season premiere ever and I really liked it, no I loved it and I am excited for more.
Are you insane? The Private Practice premiere was AMAZING. This first epi was already so much better than last season. And seriously send her back to Grey’s? NO WAY. Private Practice is so much more mature and less whiny. The cases are really interestingand the cast is just one of the best on TV right now. I will definitely watch the next episode ’cause I LOVE PRIVATE PRACTICE!!!
This is ridiculous. ABC, Shonda Rhimes, and Kate Walsh should sue you for this. I am appaulled this is allowed.
Private Practice is a great show. The premiere was the best premiere I have seen all season.
I love Kate Walsh but i DO NOT want her back on Grey’s. Shonda Rhimes has no clue how ridiculously bloated that cast has become and she continues to add newbies every single season. Unless Grey’s gets rid of Hahn, Callie, and every single newbie they just cast within the last 3 weeks, there’s no room for Kate on Grey’s. Not to mention ADDISON MOVED ON & WOULD LOOK LIKE AN IDIOT TO GO BACK TO SEATTLE!
I loved the Private Practice premier! The ratings dont mean it was bad, it just means americans are idiots that choose the wrong shows to watch!

I don’t even watch Private Practice. I am absolutely shocked this site would go this low. Because of this, I am cancelling my subscription to EW. This is uncalled for.
I think I will watch Private Practice now because of this.
If Private Practice were to fail (and I hope it doesn’t, it’s far more enjoyable than the OTT repetitive Greys whine), Kate Walsh will only return to Greys if she is contract-bound.
I can easily see her moving into movies. She’s already filmed one with Paul Bettany over the writer’s strike. But I would LOVE to see her in a comedy. She is a gifted comedienne. I read one critic comparing her to a modern-day Mary Tyler Moore which I think is a fairly good analogy.
I thought the premiere for Private Practice was great! So much better then Grey’s was. Prp seems to be getting good and Grey’s seems to be more tired and boring. So, nope, please leave Kate on Private Practice because its becoming the better show.
Addison was her strong kick butt self in the Season Premiere.
I would follow Kate Walsh anywhere. She’s one of the few actresses who I can simply spend an hour gazing at. She could be reading the phone book for all I care.
Are we sure that the PP premiere this year was amazing…or that it was amazing compared to the garbage-y first season? (There’s a difference there.)
I’ll give you guys that the premiere was better than “Grey’s” premiere this year. But saying it’s better show overall than “Grey’s”, unfortunately, isn’t saying THAT much as far as I’m concerned.
