PopWatch Previewer: 'Bedtime Stories,' 'Splinter,' and 'Lower Learning'

Categories: PopWatch Previewer

BEDTIME STORIES
Dec. 25

Plot: The bedtime stories that a goofy dad (Adam Sandler) tells to his kids magically start happening in real life.

Looks like: Click meets The Princess Bride

Verdict: Another low-brow, high-concept, mass-market, tongue-in-cheek, action-packed, kid-friendly comedy from Sandler? I’m exhausted just writing about it.

SPLINTER
Oct. 31

Plot:
A spikey parasite kills people.

Looks like: The Ruins meets The Hitchhiker

Verdict: Sure, it’s scary to watch needles poke out of people’s bodies. But will the movie have actual plot points or just spines?

LOWER LEARNING
TBD

Plot: The world’s worst school will be shut down unless its vice principal (Jason Biggs) can figure out a way to save it.

Looks like: Kids Say the Darndest Things: The Movie

Verdict:Watching grown-ups swear at kids (and vice-versa) isuniversally funny. But this R-rated comedy looks like a good sketchstretched thin.

Your turn PopWatchers: Which is less likely to put you to sleep: Bedtime Stories or Seven Pounds? Does Splinter look sharp or just painful? And could Lower Learning actually make the grade?

Interesting that all the female leads in Adam Sandler’s movies are gorgeous women that would not (at firs glance) pair up with the average dorky-looking guy. Sandler’s casting power is amazing.

yeah it’s unlikely that a hot girl would pair up with a schlub, but in real life adam sandler’s wife was a model, so it’s not like it’s far-fetched for at least him to believe it.
