Don’t worry, we’re not talking about it until after the jump…
JIM PROPOSED TO PAM AT A REST STOP GAS STATION!
I texted two people, called a third, and rewound four times.
There is nothing more romantic than a man proposing in an unromantic spot because he simply cannot wait another second.
Be honest: How many people did you text or call? How many times did you rewind? And where does Jim’s fall on your list of the most romantic TV marriage proposals?
P.S. Office recapper Aubry D’Arminio is already pondering the roadblocks Jim and Pam will encounter in their engagement. Just for today, I’m gonna pretend that I haven’t been watching TV for 33 years and it’s smooth sailing ahead.

i could not be happier!!! i rewinded the DVR like five times and i texted very cryptic messages (i wasn’t sure who watched it!) of “did you watch…..?”
literally, i had my hand over my heart like i was in a bad movie!!!! the moment took my breath away (but not nearly as much as their first kiss on casino night did!)
My girlfriend and I were watching this episode on the couch last night and laughing out loud consistently.
When the proposal came none of us said a word because we were both crying (she doesn’t like anyone seeing her crying any more than I do.) I was completely shocked by the proposal and too blown away to call or text anyone.
Mandi, you summed it up perfectly:
“There is nothing more romantic than a man proposing in an unromantic spot because he simply cannot wait another second.”
Jim tried the “perfect setup” thing at the end of last season and that ended up not working out. So this was wonderful.
Finally, I’m not really feeling any roadblocks coming for Jim and Pam, the way Aubry did. I think Rich Sommers’ character was introduced last night as sort of a fakeout to make the audience think that Pam might start falling for another nice, funny guy while away from Jim and make Jim’s proposal all the more surprising.
*neither of us.
Also (at the risk of starting some sort of war between two fan bases) I want to say that, while “30 Rock” is absolutely hilarious and deserves all the awards it gets, my favorite sitcome (and show) on TV right now remains “The Office” because of the heart it shows in scenes like the one above.
sitcom*
As Jim proposed those of us in the room who were watching had hands over either mouths or hearts while making big puppy dog eyes at the screen and there were a lot of “awwwws” to be heard. After the proposal there was a very embarrassing display of spazzy dancing and accompanied by shrieks of joy.
THe whole episode was great. It was great to see them put the hour long format to good use. Last year I found some of those 1hr episodes overwelming.
GOod stuff all around.

i could not have been more excited. i texted 2 people and called a third. even though ausiello reported that something huge would happen during a rainstorm, i still didn’t see it coming. aaahhh! please don’t give them any more hardships!
I had my hands clasped over my mouth and watched in complete silence. I didn’t hear my roommate (a fellow Office fan) say anything–I thought, “well, maybe he’s not watching.”
I looked over right after the scene happened, and he’d had the exact same reaction as I–totally speechless and on the verge of tears.
We couldn’t stop talking about the scene. Now I want to get proposed to at a rest stop in the rain.
i was watching with strangers who were not up on their show knowledge (“isn’t that blonde one with dwight? why didn’t they tell anyone?”) and totally embarrassed myself with the squealing.
Rewound three times. Called no one, because I wasn’t sure if the friends that I know watch it were watching. (Most were at a ballgame). Squealed incessantly. Punched husband in leg twice. Threw one pillow across the room and shouted, “Absofreakinglutely!”
I got goosebumps because I really didn’t see it coming, and I just got goosebumps again reading this post, thinking about it again. I absolutely loved it, and I think the best part is that Pam didn’t see it coming either, even though Jim already told her it was coming at some point. Pretty sure I couldn’t be any more in love with Jim. If only I was Pam Beesley…
Oh, it was just a wonderful surprise! Hoping they don’t have too many roadblocks ahead of them.
oh yeah, i need to find a way to thank ausiello:) —when jim pulled up to the gas station, that was when i realized it was raining. i sat up and said out loud (to no one, my husband leaves during my Office time) and said “it’s raining, it’s RAINING!” and i realized something big was gonna happen! it didn’t make it any more breathtaking though!
Called: 1, but had no words. my mom answered and I went “AAAAAAAAH!”, which she repeated.

Best. Proposal. Ever. I’m still giddy.
I couldn’t call anyone because my friends couldn’t watch it last night! I can’t wait until they do though because that was just perfect. I love Jim and Pam. I love The Office. I just wish my friends weren’t scattered around the country so we can all watch it together like we used to in college haha. Good stuff.
I didn’t rewind or call anybody, but I loved every second! I don’t think there’s ever been a TV couple I cheered for more than Jim and Pam. I really hope the writers actually decide to keep them together and let them get married. I mean, it’s a show about an office, which is already a pretty mundane subject. Why not do something that other TV shows aren’t doing? Besides, how funny would Michael’s speech at their wedding be? And then there’s the bachelor/bachelorette parties…
Poor John Krasinski. Should he ever propose to a woman, he is going to have to live up to the Jim standard. I can only imagine that is ridiculously daunting.
I think there are too many comedic opportunities to milk from a Jim-Pam engagement/wedding/baby to really mess this up. You need them to be the center around which the rest of the wacky characters orbit. They keep the show from getting too sitcom-y. And to destroy their relationship is likely to destroy the heart of the show.
Another thing to consider:
“The Office” snagged the post-Super Bowl slot this year…anybody else smell a wedding?
(Personally, I think that slot would be great for a bachelor/bachelorette party with the wedding being the season finale. But I trust these writers to do the right thing: they’ve never let me down.)
I texted my brother, since I couldn’t text my friend (he was watching Grey’s). I shrieked so loud my neighbors must think I’m insane. I couldn’t stop screaming “Yay Jim and Pam!!” When I saw the rain I remembered what Ausiello said and got really excited. GO JIM AND PAM!!!!!
)
I didn’t call or text anyone but I have to say that this is the first time I’ve clapped and jumped up and down for a propasal since Chandler and Monica on “Friends”. I hope the writers don’t do anything really dumb like have them break up. I agree with Nee Nee that there are etoo many comedic goldmines to mine simply by going through all of the typical wedding planning and stuff. And speaking from experience, it could start with Pam trying to plan the wedding from New York. I planned my wedding from 2000 miles away and there are LOADS that could go wrong. But last night’s proposal was so great and romantic. I LOVED IT!!
Let’s just say my husband and I both cheered. And it’s all we’ve talked about this morning at my office.
I rewound my DVR several times and clapped my hands with glee. Most romantic TV proposal ever, hands down! And Jim certainly fulfilled his promise to knock Pam (and us!) on her a** with his proposal! Soooo perfect! Please don’t ever break them up, writers!
I will admit it…I had a tear or two. SO sweet!
I rewound six time, and it was great every time. And, yes, I cried a little because it was the sweetest proposal I’d ever seen on TV. It was so real and full of emotion. Jim’s a doll…
I hope the writers stay true to these characters and that Jim wasn’t proposing b/c he was lonely and that Pam isn’t jumping into an engagement. I am so invested in this couple that I found myself worrying about the sudden proposal the way I would if a friend who had a rough romantic path had just embarked on a pretty big move in her professional life got engaged to someone she’d been dating for less than a year. I don’t think my heart could handle it if they don’t live happily ever after.
I haven’t cared much about Pam and Jim since season two, but I’m glad the show was, you know, funny again. I hope that’ll continue. I gave up on the show before the strike, and I missed liking it.
The Office? Bored now.
“Be honest: How many people did you text or call?”
Zero — I’m a guy
I texted three and blogged about it!
Oh.
And I’m a GUY.
Hey Miriam? ‘Bye, now.
