If Privileged wasn’t my new favorite fall TV show before, it certainly is now thanks to an ever-growing population of tanned man-candy to ogle. But something about Palm Beach’s newest face, hottie headmaster Jacob Cassidy (played by David Giuntoli, left), struck me as strangely familiar. A quick IMDB search garnered a result I hadn’t expected: He’s a former Road Ruler! Something else unexpected: He was actually good. The RR: South Pacific alum’s turn on last night’s ep was not only charming, but he had great chemistry with co-star Joanna Garcia (Do I hear a nomination for entry into our favorite TV/movie teacher’s list? Okay, that’s probably premature). Anyway…
It seemed for the better part of a decade that Real World: London cast member Jacinda Barrett (The Last Kiss, Ladder 49) would be the only RW/RR alum to have any sort of acting career, but the pretty Aussie better watch her back. In addition to Giuntoli, former Real World: San Diego gal Jamie Chung (right) has been kicking butt in her own ABC Family mini-series, Samurai Girl.
What do you think about this RW/RR-goofball-turned-working-actor trend, PopWatchers? Is this the coming of the apocalypse? Or do you enjoy watching reality has-beens try their hand at real work? What did you think of Giuntoli’s (and/or Chung’s) performances? And are there any RW/RR cast members you’d like to see in an acting role (you know, a real acting role).

let’s not forget theo von, who was on last comic standing and won comedy central’s reality bites back. sure, there’s not much acting there, but he’s actually carving some spotlight in the stand-up world. how much longer until he’s in a dax shepard movie?
You forgotten the most successful RWer: Judd from RW: San Fran. He is one of the most successful Comic book writers in the business right now.
I actually watched Samurai Girl (mostly because of Brendan Fehr) and I can’t say much of Jamie Chung’s acting abilities. She wasn’t really that much worse than the rest of the cast, though I guess, especially considering the terrible dialogue and general silliness of the story…
Wasn’t one of the RW Chicago(male) on a soap opera?
SORRY FOR THE DOUBLE POST,I AM USING A NEW COMPUTER
Half the people on the show are aspiring actors/actresses anyways, so it makes sense a few of them would show up in legitimate projects.
So glad that I am not the only one who was loving last night’s Privledged. I too was entertained and charmed by the new guy and his chemistry with Joanna Garcia. the fact that he was on RR is bizarre but I totally remember him. Oh, and the EW World Chicago guy was on an NBC soap.
I thought I knew that guy from somewhere!!
You are correct. It was Kyle Brandt. He played Phillip Kirakis for a few years. He got better as time went on… Of course, he left the soap and fell off the face of the earth!
I was on an elevator with Kyle Brandt in Vegas last year. So he does still exist… just not on the television!
David must be a natural. I didn’t recognize him from MTV and thought he was great.
David was on Grey’s Anatomy earlier this year too. He was amazing with the small part he had on there. I like him.
David was fantastic in a show that I’m growing to like more and more… It’s such a shame that a terribly written and acted show like 90210 is getting so much more publicity from the network than a quality program like Privileged.
Don’t forget that David also did a nice job playing a gay soldier on Grey’s Anatomy.
David was also a character in last season’s “Eli Stone”.
