Richard was the glue of the greatest rock band of my lifetime. I’m 54 now and have known no other group that has touched the heart and soul of myself and millions of fans with such profound depth as Pink Floyd. A superlative one of a kind sound and style that will serve as a creative standard in musical history and will continue to inspire generations of new masters yet to come.

To me, Rick was such a huge part of the sound, the soul of the band if you will, I will never own a copy of “the final cut”. I’ve always felt he was what pulled it all together. My deepest condolences to his family, his passing is a great loss for the world.

Its over 40 years since I spoke to Rick but I’ve never forgotten how kind and gentle a man he was to me. I now regret not contacting him for fear of being a hanger on. My thoughts are with his family.

Roger Waters posted a very thoughtful piece follwoing Rick’s death. It can be read here (http://undercover.com.au/News-Story.aspx?id=6371). Also, Roger shut down his website and it now shows only candles lit in the darkness.

My first exposure to Floyd was at 15 and Ummagumma. They instantly grew on me in 1970. 3 years later it was the Dark side of the Moon concert in Detroit MI at Cobo Hall. It was a knock out concert that I think was their best ever. They blew up the stage somewhat with a couple canon fireworks halfway into the concert. They had to halt the concert because some amps were knocked over in the blast. Everyone was just STUNNED and STONED. Probably all 20,000 or whatever the seating was there.
Anyway, Richard Wrights keys were the grounding and mesh that made Floyd. Very unmistakable and so very musical. Long after we are gone, Floyd and Wright will be still rocking the people in some medium.
