During a screening last night of The Duchess (which opens Friday), I could barely focus on the plot (something about babies?) because I was physically unable to remove my eyes from any of the women’s lusciously extravagant outfits. It didn’t even matter who the character was — in fact, when my screening buddy harped about Hayley Atwell’s Lady Bess Foster, I was all, "Oh, I loved her…" and then in a soft, wistful whisper, added, "hats." So many of the puffed dresses resembled really elaborate cakes, but not 21st century cakes trying too hard to look vintage. More like musty old layer cakes comprised of authentic 18th-century Devonshire baking materials, then painted in earth tones using well water. Basically, I’m recommending you see a movie solely to stare at clothes that look like cake. I’m fired.

1) Helene Cooper’s The House at Sugar Beach
2) Tina Fey as Sarah Palin
TV – Smallville & Supernatural start tonite and the PVR is primed and ready to go. I’m curious to see what Smallville will be like without Lex and with the additions of Tess Mercier (Mercy) in his place.
Fringe: I love Pacey!
And So You Think You Can Dance Canada! It’s our turn!!
Summer Glau on Terminator: Sarah Connor Chronicles.
Since we’re discussing a love for sartorial splendor, high fashion Wednesdays are on my must list. First, the delicious superficiality of ANTM at 8, and then the oh-so-subtle product placements of Project Runway. I hope Heidi gets to auf a losing nominee at this Sunday’s Emmys. And that she used the BlueFly accessory wall thoughtfully when picking our her hosting ensembles.
Video games – Dragon Quest IV on the DS, dropping this week.
John Noble on Fringe. He’s an amazing mix of a creepy, mad scientist and the cooky relative who drives you crazy, but you HAVE to love.
Tina Fey & Amy Poehler were pretty great on SNL too.
Rutina Wesley as the sassy Tara Thornton on HBO’s “True Blood;” the color coordination on “Mad Men;” and “New Rules” of Bill Maher.
Chuck and Blair on Gossip Girl. They made me all swoony in this week’s episode.
shhhh. we might have to keep this our little secret. but i’m totally hooked on tori spelling’s book “sTORI telling!” i just finished it last night. it took me two days to read – i couldn’t put it down! it’s fantastic! i never thought i would say it, but… it’s actually one of the most enjoyable books i’ve read in a long time. and yes, i was slightly embarrassed to read it on the train. but there’s no getting around it! the book jacket has a big picture of tori on the cover, and the book jacket comes off to reveal… a bright pink book. (for the record, i had to cover it.) but i will say this – there’s a line of about 15 people i know waiting to read it after i’m done. definitely on the my DL must list.
Annie, I think you’ve been watching too much Ace of Cakes.
The Rachel Maddow Show. She’s absolutely brilliant and funny, with a total devotion to bringing us actual news.
Fringe- it’s smart, funny, and a perfect combination of everything J.J. Abrams.
Tina Fey and Amy Poehler in SNL’s opening skit. Fey was absolutely hilarious and pitch-perfect as Palin!
John Noble on Fringe, totally. He’s the first great mad scientist of the 21st century (and hopefully not the last).
Star Wars: The Force Unleashed. There is (almost) nothing more satisfying that blasting droves of Stormtroopers over a cliff or zapping them with some Force Lightning.
Joshua Jackson as Peter Bishop on Fringe. From his scruffy beard to his smarmy one-liners, Jackson infects the show with a down-to-earth quality, even when solving the case of the see-through skin.
America’s Next Top Model!
From Tyra’s crazy stint as a robot to hot tub makeout parties, this season is the most dramatic and engrossing yet.
Ra Ra Riot’s album The Rhumb Line
Some songs are ripped from the 80’s. Some are sad Vampire Weekend. All make you hum and sing along This is a great indie record.
Elena:
You can’t put a show of which you are a contestant on your own Must List! And you spelled it wrong. The second e is sposda be an i.
Hey, bisexual animal activist: what do you think they’re gonna do to you tonight to earn the honored title of “makeover that we’ve NEVER SEEN BEFORE” on ANTM?
Tally Hall’s Internet Show! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=No4jRDRAkaE
Gavin and Stacey.
John Legend’s Green Light!
Whatever Martha! on FineLiving. This is Martha Stewart’s daughter Alexis and her friend ripping on old Martha segments. This is the most amazing idea ever. Who wouldn’t want to criticize their overly critical mother on national tv? Alexis is living the dream. And it is hilarious.
The Good Thief by Hannah Tinti.
A good old fashioned yarn, told simply, but full of macabre twists. Literary, but totally fun too.

See what you friends, family, or even your favorite author is reading. Completely addicting
1. the DJ AM and Travis Barker mixtape, Fix Your Face, is amazingly good. Live drums and scratching with Johnny Cash, Jay-Z, Kid Cudi, Estelle, and more. get it for freee at http://trvsdjam.com/ .
2. Charles Hamilton . This internet rapper/Interscope signee has some ambitious plans with “The Hamiltonization Process”. He will drop an exclusive mixtape for around 10 websites within the next few months. The first one is available at okayplayer.com.
3. Life on DVD. Sure, some of the music has changed for the worse, but the show is still one of the best on TV!
I have to second (or third, or fourth) Fringe, espcially thanks to Joshua Jackson. It’s only been two episodes and I’m totally in love with him already.
Also, anything with Shia LaBeouf in it. I can’t stop watching this kid, he’s way too good.
How I Met Your Mother series premiere. I just discovered the show on DVD. It’s absoulutely hilarious and NPH is legen–wait for it–dary!
Flobots- No Handlebars! Best lyrics of any song this summer.
Raymond Cruz as Det. Sanchez on The Closer. A very underrated actor who really made the last episodes of season 4 incredible.
Since you liked spaghetti cat so much, you may want to check out ninja cat:

(Would add Fringe wholeheartedly to the mix, but seems like that is covered, thankfully.)
