Do you 'get' (just arrested) Kanye's 'Love Lockdown'?

My first thought when I saw Kanye West debut his new single at the VMAs last weekend was, and I quote, "…" Pure static. Read the full post.

Wow, so out of tune…and unenthusiastic. Such great potential. This either needs rerecording or to be passed off to a singer.

West is on his way to Diddyland if you ask me. He’s already starting to sound like he’s out of tricks and his unsavory personality may have turned fans off. A reality show and a bad clothing line by Kayne seem like the next step. Music pioneer, not so much.

This is just plain awful. I really like Kanye but the Robot Singing thing is beyond played out. The musical dynamic is good but, oh man, listening to it right now I just want to turn it off. He’s going downhill. Fast.

    Love it!!!!

I love it. My co-workers and I have been listening to it all day.

Meh. He should stick to talking about this favorite subject (himself) and attatcking paps. Now that’s entertainment.

Opps. I see I left the Courtney Love spell checker on.

I really love it…but I kinda think he is in a really bad emotional state since his mother’s passing, and after three incredible albums should be given some slack.

Word up to graeme and Damian, because I love it, too, and my reaction to it during the VMAs was similar to both of yours.
I’m not crazy about the version linked here – I do think the song will benefit from a studio polishing up and, to me, it’s still very obviously a work in progress – but it’s eerie and unsettling in a way I find compulsively listenable, and I really dig the percussive instrumentation that accompanies the chorus (FWIW, I actually prefer the VMA version/performance of the song than what’s linked to here).
Musical taste being the highly subjective thing that it is, I can’t speak to why you don’t ‘get’ it, Simon. All I can say is that I do ‘get’ it, and I can’t wait to hear the polished album version.

I am kinda into it, frank-a-dankly.

I love this song. There’s a cool Imogen Heap meets Gnarls Barkley vibe to it. I truly appreciate Kanye’s willingness to explore the musical landscapes outside of people’s expectations. When a singer , like Debbie Harry, explored rapping people saw it as a very creative move. Let’s give Kanye the same respect. I, for one, wish more musicians would surprise us more often rather than just rehashing their first hit single. I may not love every risk they take but admire and love to support artists willing to “go there”. The last time a popular artist made me so happy with an unexpected move was Christina Aguilera with her “Back To Basics”. I would say 2 years between surprises is too long. Kudos to Kanye.

Obsessed w/ the live version. Listened to it, honestly, about 80 times and running.
The STUDIO version, however, loses the intensity and drive that the live version has. He mumbles the hook instead of yelling it; the drums that pound and drive the live version lose steam (probably from being a drum machine). And the Auto Tuner hijacks the song.
The live version was like a hip-hop U2; methinks Mr. West needs to re-do the drums (get a Marching Band) and OWN the hook.

Brilliant. I went to work the next day talking to everyone about the performance and how much I love it. This song is pure fire.
