Well, the show is over, and in our opinion there were definitely some ups (Pink, pictured, and Lil Wayne, holla!), downs (what was up with Read the full post.

I thought Russell Brand was great! Christina Aguilera was hot, Britney didn’t deserve THREE awards, and the commercial lead out-and-in performances are a terrible idea!
russell brand was the only amusing thing about the VMAs…and also paris hilton’s teleprompter screw up.
Russell Brand was amazing and quite frankly the ONLY reason I would stoop to watch the MTV video music awards. He was fresh, charming, quick, and willing to take a risk!!! And honestly…the Jonas brothers are really pretty terrible, if Brand had wanted to get mean he would have mentioned their music. Americans need to grow a sense of humour.
Was it held in the school cafeteria? That was the worst venue ever, but all those lip synced performances deserved nothing better. I can not believe that was the 25th anniversary show, it bad, blah and boring!
This VMA s was WAYYYY Better than last year tho, but still it was Mediocre, The Venue was Pretty Small, looked like 200 people was in there, The Winners was all “Set UP” for Britney, and most of the performances were Outside the Studio. So mostly Nobody Got the Full quality of the AWARDS, Bring it back to New York City!
I will say that it was the worst show ever. The only thing that gets me is, sure make one joke about the Jonas Bros. and move on. It was so annoying that they were the only thing he could find to talk about!?!? As for the comments about him being funny, I guess I am to mature to get it because I don’t think he ever said anything funny. Besides the terriable host the performances were awesome and the best part was “McLovin” and Slipnot!
I thought Jordin Sparks comment that anyone who has sex before marriage is a slut was a wee bit ignorant…
god, give russell brand a break–at least he was original and spoke his mind, even though it was a tad controversial. he even called his own british monarchs “inbred twits”. long live free speech.
I’ve liked Russell for a few years after accidentally seeing him on youtube and I’m glad that more Americans got to see him tonight! I only watched the vmas because he was hosting and thought he was hilarious and edgy–the show would have been terribly boring without him. It’s really annoying how all the teeny boppers are taking the jonas brothers jokes so seriously when Russell simply told them for a laugh and obviously didn’t mean any harm by them. It’s great that young celebrities are wearing promise rings, but if they’re going to publicize it, they should expect that not everyone else is going to hold the same values. Plus, it’s only an award show(that had previously been known for being outrageous)! I’m sure there would be less criticism if a well-known American host had made the exact same jokes. Russell is brilliant and I’m glad at least some people here agree.
Russell Brand was THE highlight of the show period. He brought a very welcoming change to usual bore of a show that I am used to seeing yearly.
are you kidding me. you are going to get someone to host the mtv awards that is not even usa, and then talk politics!!! he should not even be up there. don’t bring that into the awards.
Russell Brand was fantastic!!! Funny and honest! He’s just saying what we’re all thinking. At least what I’m thinking!
I loved Russel Brand. He did his job and he made me laugh, he was unconventional but thats why I loved him. Just because he was different than all of the other hosts who immediately choose to make fun of easy targets such as Britney or Lindsay doesn’t make him a terrible host. He did brilliantly.
THANK YOU, LilyCee. I completely agree. I’ve loved Brand ever since I saw him on “Big Fat Quiz” which airs in the UK. He was amazingly refreshing, and he was far more witty and charming than the pathetic hosts the VMAs have had in the past.
Why does it matter if he’s from USA or not? He was a great host! And a great host can make any material work. He did!
