Awareness of NBC’s fall lineup is up 59 percent thanks to all the promos the peacock ran during the Olympics, the network’s marketing chief tells The Hollywood Reporter. But does being aware of a new show mean you’re going to watch it?
I don’t actually remember seeing a Knight Rider ad, which is strange since it’s tracking the highest in terms of audience awareness, per NBC. Still, I’m planning to watch the premiere, for the car. I do recall a few promos for Kath & Kim (pictured) — but mostly for how much I didn’t laugh at them. I imagine I’ll want to watch that premiere to support Molly Shannon, but I’ll forget to tape it and won’t bother catching up. As for Christian Slater’s My Own Worst Enemy, well, I definitely saw those promos (and thought about how many dual-identity shows are on TV), but I had to look up the show’s title just now, which doesn’t bode well…I do, however, want to see Slater again, so count me in.
How effective were NBC’s fall promos for you?

I didn’t see a single Knight Rider spot, either. Hmm. Anyway, all the Kath & Kim ads did was point out how obnoxious and low-brow the show seems, and helped confirm my decision not to watch. I had already decided to watch My Own Worst Enemy, so it was nice to see more clips of the show that look intriguing.
Based on the cast and the premise, I was looking foward to the Kath and Kim show until I actually saw the commercials. With each one I began to hate the show a little more. Aren’t previews supposed to be the funniest parts?
The early previews for “Kath & Kim” were bad but the last one (when Molly Shannon as mom has turned Selma Blair’s room into a “Curves” was pretty funny). Remember, the previews for “30 Rock” and “Friends” weren’t very good either (in fact the whole first episode of “Friends” wasn’t funny).
Kath & Kim looked delightfully trashy.
That said, this year seems like one of the weaker fall line ups in a while. Lots of former “summer” shows are doing their gigs in the fall now (Sunny in Philly, The Shield, Entourage), which will also cut into how much time I have for new series.
That all said, Joss Whedon’s got a new show coming out and it looks awesome!
As for NBC, we’ll always have the Office and 30 Rock. If Kath&Kim’s on a thursday night, I’ll get stuck with another traffic jam. How can I skip out on Ugly Betty, and why does all the good stuff always have to be on at the same time?
I’m actually looking forward to Kath & Kim!
The promos were certainly effective… in ensuring that I DO NOT watch NBC’s fall line-up (except 30 Rock). All the promos made NBC look like your middle-aged, recently divorced uncle who is trying desperately to look ‘hip’ for the ladies.
If I watch Kath & Kim, it will be despite the previews, not because of them. I may still tune in as a) it’s Molly Shannon, and b) it’s on after The Office. Everything else NBC advertised during the Olympics looked awful.
THANK GOD friends and will & grace are off for good cus i will not be watching the network any longer. I LOVE MATTHEW.
The ads assisted me with what I will not be watching – Kath & Kim and Robison Crusoe. They did assist in reminding me how much I cannot wait for Chuck.
I’m definitely going to give “Kath & Kim” a try…it looked funny, and I love the actors. Not interested in Christian Slater or the new “Knight Rider”, though. I saw part of the TV movie last Spring and thought it was atrocious.
I will probably watch “Kath & Kim”, but I was planning to before the Olympic promos started. Mostly the promos irritated me because new episodes of “The Office” still seem so far away…
I probably wouldn’t have seen even one promo if they hadn’t advertised Kath & Kim during the Olympics. So I guess I owe it to the Olympics for getting me at least interested enough to watch one episode. I’m pretty much only interested because of Molly Shannon.
Part of why I left my TV on during olympics events I didn’t care about was to see the Chuck commercials. I absolutely adore the show, and the commercials simply made my excitement grow. It was great to see Zachary Levi on my screen again – even if for 10 or so seconds. Counting down the days until Sep 29!
Oh, and the Office ones weren’t bad either. Loved slapface and the centathlon. Good ol Dwight!
All the NBC show ads did was make me really want Chuck to start again. The ads for it were great. Everything else I was ‘meh’ about already and the ads made it worse.
I’m curious about “Kath & Kim” & “My Own Worst Enemy.” Mostly, though, I just want to watch “The Office” & “Chuck” again.
