her credentials should ban her from the music industry. the “so called talent” she has produced or written songs for, reflect the lack luster songs of the music industry and its continued spiral downward to bubble gum rock. no more american ‘sound like all the rest’ idol for me anymore.

thank goodness! please, please get rid of that awful Paula. we’ve watched her embarass herself for too long. like sanjaya, the joke was old a long time ago. finally, someone with a reputation from within the past 20 years will be on the panel with simon and randy

This could add a bit of a drama, especially in cases of a tie between the 4 judges. But here is the truth the viewers will never admit to. They love contestant bashing just as much as they love the singing, in some cases, even more. It is an integral part of the entertainment. Simon is the greatest basher of all and his seat is “safe” as far as commenters here are concerned. Paula is a contestant sympathizer, and some people just don’t like that, as it doesn’t provide the entertainment they need. Last season I carefully observed the judges comments and Paula was using the richest language by a wide margin. This is the truth some people will not admit to.

This is a sure sign that AI has “jumped the shark”. Why not just call her Cousin Oliver and be done with it!

I’ll bet with her hit maker background she is going to be Simon’s replacement not Paula’s. They’ll probably get the remaining half of Milli Vanilli to replace Paula.

How on earth can we possibly know at this point if it’s a good or bad thing? I personally havent’ seen her speak so I have no idea if she knows what she’s talking about or if, like Paula she is a complete dolt. Hopefully she is straight forward and honest and will replace Paula whose relevance has diminished to the point that she is a complete joke (not that she wasn’t to begin with).

The gender balance will be helpful, but hopefully the “tie” scenario (2 judges say yes and 2 say no) won’t add an extra 20 minutes to the show as they decide whether the contestant should go on.

The entire show is too damn long! Unless this new judge is going to shake that money maker, I’m still not watching!

Kudos to whoever had the pop culture savvy to name themselves Fred Sanford and the irreverence to come with a blast about boobies. That is a true popwatch blogger right there, people.

I agree that instead of giving more time for judging, the contestants should be allowed more time for singing. I would hate to see Paula go, even if she is a little loopy at times, because we’ve all seen her from the beginning and it would just be strange without her. It was interesting seeing who the additional judge was though, because I was already familiar with how many artists she’s worked with. But I feel like she’d be a better judge for a songwriting competition, not a singing competition.

It appears that this will be the way to ease Paula Abdul out of show. Paula adds absolutely nothing to the judging of the singers. My only complaint is what took the producers so long to recognize that fact.

Who is this lady? I still have no idea who she is? I never heard of her?

I liked the fact that we could have the singers play instruments. I was a huge Cook fan, and happy that the Davids and Syesha came in top 3 (except Michael Johns, hello, top 8?!). I don’t see how 4 judges will keep the show moving along smoothly, unless it was on a rotating basis (i.e., Randy, Simom, or Paula took weeks off and she came on). If this took away the stupid group numbers, the “fake” call-in’s, and the huge amt of time spent on recapping the episode THE NIGHT BEFORE, then fine. Otherwise, how much time WILL the singers actually get to, you know, SING? I know Nigel will no longer be involved with the show, so I can’t know how instrumental he was with this decision and how it will play out. I hope she has insightful things to say, unlike Randy’s “You could sing the phone book, too,” Paula’s gushing, and Simon’s snarky remarks (he knows what he is saying, but a tad more constructive criticism would be welcome). Let’s see how it goes.

having a fourth judge is just an unnecessary addition in my opinion. i fully agree that the contestants should have more singing time rather than them giving more juding time. we don’t care about what the judges think, we’re watching the show to hear people sing. and theyve had the same 3 judges for so long, they dont need to change things. theyre jsut trying too hard to slowly re-invent american idol because people are getting bored of the same old thing but i dont think adding some random lady is going to bring up the shows declining viewers.
