I’m loving this rumor that the next Batman sequel will feature a Catwoman played by Cher. According to this dubious, thinly sourced Telegraph article, franchise director Christopher Nolan wants the 62-year-old Oscar-winner to play the feline femme fatale "like a vamp in her twilight years." (Hey, nobody better tell Cher or her fans that she’s a vamp in her twilight years.) Truth is, there’ve been no announcements about the next Bat-film, including even whether Nolan and star Christian Bale are coming back, much less who the villains will be or who’ll play them. (Slashfilm has a good, accurate timeline on the latest news, meager as it is, about the forthcoming sequel.) Still, why shouldn’t the filmmakers look as far afield as, say, Cher to play Catwoman? (Don’t dismiss her because of her age; she’s indestructible!) Or Johnny Depp to play the Riddler (as the Telegraph article also claims)? Heath Ledger wouldn’t have been my first pick to play the Joker, but that eccentric bit of casting certainly worked out. Who would you like to see in the next Batman adventure, PopWatchers, and playing which character?

Gary, Cher is only indestructible because she’s entirely made of plastic, silicon, and other man-made materials. I say NO! to Cher as Catwoman. As obvious and cliche as this may be, I think Angelina Jolie would make a good Catwoman.
I am still very much confused about this rumor. Cher wouldnt be my first choice as an old ho catwoman but it does make me wish Madonna was a good actress cause then she wouldve nailed it!
angelina jolie is a cliche choice and she is just too much of a big hollywood name for the nolan batman movies.

I love the Angelina Jolie as Catwoman rumor. Also, the Johnny Depp as the Riddler one certainly intrigues me.
Cher would be a horrendous choice. You might as well have Joel Schumacher make the movie.
I don’t think Nolan would ever want Cher… his casting choices have been, save for Katie Holmes, much more serious and less mainstream. Plus, Catwoman as an aging vamp? HA! Seriously… just NO. (I do think Johnny Depp could be a great Riddler, though.)
i’m not too set on cher playing catwoman, but if it happened it would find a way to work. she did win an oscar after all.

I love Cher, but I don’t think she ‘d be good as Catwoman. (Too much of a camp factor with her) Agelina Jolie on the other hand….
i think cher would be 40,000x better than angelina and i agree that that would be SOOO cliche. ick. i’d rather see megan fox, altho she’s like a mini-angie. i like the idea of johnny depp, but would he do it? who knows, i’m sure there are better choices out there. i think nolan could take reese witherspoon or anne hathaway or mark ruffalo or jennifer garner and make them give tremendous performances. jake gyllenhaal? peter saarsgaard? ryan gosling??? rachel mcadams? all better choices i think since they are good actors (save jennifer garner) and i think nolan could do a lot with them.
Depp and Jolie – hell no. Way to big of names.

I think Famke Janssen would be a great Catwoman. (Sorry, but Cher could be Catwoman’s grandma!)…. And Nolan in the next Batman don’t you dare kill Gordon, Gary Oldman is great!!!
I know I’ll get crucified for this, but I kind of want to see the Joker recast. I just love that bad guy, and much of what made the Joker great in The Dark Knight was the writing.
Heath Ledger set the rules for the character, and I’d like to see someone like Johnny Depp take on that role rather than the Riddler.
Jackie is on point with the Megan Fox comment. Not that she is a mini-Angie (at least I don’t see it), but that she would be a good Catwoman.
Of course, maybe I’m just biased because I don’t think there has ever been a hotter woman in Hollywood ever. I’m totally smitten with Megan.
what about Keira Knightley? I’d love to see her as Catwoman. She has the tomboy look and the dramatic skills to pull a terrific Catwoman, not to mention she’s hot.

To me, no one is touching Nicholson. And, with all due respect to Heath and the surrounding tragedy, the reason everyone raved about the movie and his acting is because of his death.
Not that it wasn’t good on its own merit, because it was. But people wouldn’t be calling it the best Joker of all time if he were still alive – which I would have preferred. I’m sure he would have, too.
Megan Fox doesn’t seem right. She has the looks but only that. HL was a great actor, even an Oscar nominee, MF is just good looking.

I would actually love to see David Tennant play the Riddler in the next Batman movie, provided they model the character more after the Riddler in the Animated Series. He’s a bit more suave than they way some of the later graphic novels depict him and could make a really good brainy terrorist. I think David Tennant could pull that off. Though I wouldn’t be opposed to Johnny Depp. As for Catwoman, I’m not sure who I would like to see play her. I just know I would absolutely hate to see someone like Angelina Jolie or Cher in the role. With the exception of Katie Holmes, Christopher Nolan has never let me down with his casting so I would trust him no matter who he selected.
Please don’t cast Cher as Catwoman, in fact, i would rather not see Catwoman in the next batman movie, if there is one, but if Catwoman is in the movie, then i see either Rachel McAdams or Emily Blunt in the role. As for the Riddler, of course Johnny Depp is the obvious choice, but i would like to see Ryan Gosling, Sam Rockwell, or Ed Norton ( not likely given his role as the Hulk). And as far as the Penguin goes, there is only one choice: Phillip Seymour Hoffman.
Talk about absurd ideas for casting. Nothing against Cher. She can be a very good actress given the right role and no one can deny some great plastic surgeons have left Cher looking phenomenal. But let’s be real here: she’s 64! Get real! After the phenomenal casting of Heath Ledger why would they want to take a step backward and choose someone like Cher? Rachel McAdams would be a great choice in this role. Of course, I’m not sold on the idea of having Catwoman at all. I would like to see some of the other Rogues Gallery.
I could see this but it would require letting some of the sexual tension between Batman and Catwoman and focus on the melancholy of Catwoman as an aging diva (i.e. Dark Knight meets Sunset Blvd.)
It’s too bad that some people will always attribute Heath’s aclaimed performance to his death. I thought it was incredible. Back to topic, if Nolan wants Catwoman to be an againg vamp, he needs to look no further than Michelle Pfeiffer. She was the best part of that movie.

depp for riddler is devine, their chemistry will be phenomenal and no, although they are well known, both, but especially depp, never show the names but the characters…
depp is a chameleon and jolie is not tom hanks!
I think Cher will be fantastic as Catwomen. She is very sassy, more so than Angelina Jolie. I think you will be surprised with the end product. At the end of the day it’s the director’s choice whom he wants to star in his movie.

Ellen Page as Harley Quinn! Now bare with me here. Chris Nolan could definitely make that character work in this series and if you saw Ellen Page in “Hard Candy” then you know that aside from being a funny woman, she can also play a sinister role very well. That mix of funny and sinister could definitely create a memorable villain.
Well, I completely agree with Verity in regard to the casting of David Tennant as The Riddler. He would be perfect for the role, as he seems to be able to pull off “manic genius” nearly flawlessly (see Hamlet reviews). My thought for Catwoman is Christina Ricci. She’s not mainstream per se, and there is a certain feline quality to her that I think would translate fittingly into that role. Cher would have been an excellent choice, say, 20 years ago, but I agree with those who have said now it would just seem too “campy”… kind of like having Burt Ward come in and reprise his role as the Caped Crusader…
