Raise your hand if you’ve come across the new Rihanna video on TV recently and been a little scared. (No, not that new Rihanna video… not that one, either… this new Rihanna video, for "Disturbia.") It’s okay, I was shaken too. You can check out the clip below — if you dare. Mad creepy, right? It looks like she accidentally wandered into Nine Inch Nails’ "Closer" video, or else some sort of freaky Victorian mental hospital. Not quite what I’d expected for a dance-pop song based around the lyrics "Dom-dom-dee-dom, dom-dom-dee-dom-dom." It’s cool to see Rihanna trying something new, though. And the song is so catchy it’d work with practically any visuals — even if this video seems like it was crafted to test the limits of that statement.
So, do you dig this video’s haunted-hallucination vibe? And while we’re at it, I’m hoping one of you can help explain why this song is called "Disturbia." Did I miss the time when that became a word in the English language? (Is disturbia a place? A state of mind? An unusual first name?) Or is this, like, an oblique tribute to that Shia LaBeouf movie? Help!

She sucks. It wasn’t bad enough that she lifted all of “Tainted Love” for SOS, but then she used the name of the movie “Disturbia” as a song title. Seriously, does she have one single original thought in that big vacuous head of hers? Cripes…
Fletch — she didn’t write the song, so you can’t say she used the name of the movie. I read a magazine article that it was originally a song for Chris Brown, but she liked it so much that she decided to do it.

She doesn’t write her own songs – as most “singers” don’t. Therefore, she isn’t as talented as musicians that actually write and actually play instruments.
Someone thought she looked good, and she has an okay voice – so they packaged her up, gave her someone else’s songs, (over)produced those songs, and shoved it down all of our throats.
It’s just music that’s not very good, and it’s freaking everywhere. She sucks, bottom line.

To clarify a bit, I believe she did write this song with Chris Brown. Its a shame.. All the time they spend together and he can’t teach her to sing.

i like the song enough to not change it when it comes on the radio, but i wouldn’t buy it on iTunes or recommend it to any of my friends. As for the video…it’s just not very Rihanna. But she’s done plenty of videos that don’t seem to quite fit her personality, so that’s not unusual.

The video itself is cool, but does anyone honestly believe Rihanna and her vice would be as popular as she is if he weighed 200lbs? Didn’t think so.
i love this song but i don’t like the video. the first time i saw it i thought of nin closer vid too, and then i thought about how the disturbia vid looks kinda cheap in comparison, and like its trying too hard. but dont get me wrong, i still like the song and rihanna too.
She looks just like Janet Jackson in that “Scream” video, with the set from “Thriller”, lol. Not really a fan but I won’t condemn because a lot of people like that stuff.

“Disturbia” has a cool beat. It’s a guilty pleasure tune. However,the video IS Rihanna’s version of “Thriller.” She’s copying Michael Jackson now. She sampled Soft Cell,she took a Madonna title (“Take a Bow”),and now this.
“Disturbia” would’ve worked in the disturbing movie “Rock my world” (a dead-looking Peter O’Toole rocks out) or in the “Elijah Wood goes nuts” montage in the B movie “Day Zero.” People forgive bad movies if they have decent music.

I know so much about her? I know what KIIS and itunes shoves down my throat. You don’t have to do a ton of research to know that she lifts entire songs and just redoes the lyrics (“SOS”) – it’s right there in your face.

Calm down, Felch. Let’s talk about the video! It’s trying too hard, and it was kinda a snooze. But, I will give props to the Thunderdome headdress thing she’s wearing. That was the best (possibly the only good) thing about the video. More post-apocalyptic headdresses, please!
