File this under things we didn’t see coming a mile away: ABC just announced that Jason Mesnick, who you might recall got down on bended knee during the last season’s Bachelorette finale, but didn’t get the girl, is the new Bachelor!
His season won’t air until January 2009, so we’re all going to have to wait till then to see which lucky woman will win his — and his son Ty’s (remember him?) — heart. God knows there have been plenty out there trying since Deanna passed on him for Jesse.
Personally, I think it might have been fun to see how Jeremy would’ve handled a slew of women coming at him from every which way — maybe he’d learn to stop being so robotic with his emotions. Still, I’m OK with Jason as the elected bachelor. At least he has some personality!

Thoughts? Comments? Yeah, okay. I’ve got some. I think everyone that has ever appeared on any season of The Bachelor/Bachelorette needs to taken into the street and shot – right on TV for all of America to see. That way these shallow, souless, attention-hungry losers in our country will wake up and think twice about participating in something so stupid.

I feel sorry for his son who’ll at the very least will be separated from his only parent again. Of course, the show will probably trot him out for display at every opportunity. Poor thing!
So “The Bachelor” is another pseudo generic-looking white dude with dark hair. In a related story, the sky is blue.
If Rob Lowe and Steve Carell could genetically have a son, he’d look like the guy above.
I am totally happy about this. While it seemed like Deanna wasn’t ready for what he had to offer, I thought he was a truly genuine, stand-up guy. I am psyched to see him as happy as Deanna!

Well deserved Jason! Jason was the most popular male contestant on a Bachelorette show ever and he totally deserves this!!! Ty and him need a stable mom to certify their family setting. I wish Jason all the best!
Good for Jason! He’s a really nice guy and a great family man. I’m excited to see how he does on the show.
with a kid involved I hope they let Jason pre-screen his future-suitors (or suitees?).
I will definitely watch. I have met Jason and I know his family. He is a very sweet guy and a great father. I hope it works out for him this time.

I can’t wait to watch this episode. I really wished jason would have been the last one standing, but it wasn’t meant to be. I hope he finds the one that will complete his family and make both him and Ty happy.

I saw this coming and I am so excited, I fell in love with him the first night and cheered him on. What a great man who so represents himself as he is. I hope they do choose some single mothers who also share the same values as he has. Not just a bunch of made it bimbos, Jason is not that type. GO JASON, Cant wait til 2009!

Are people really surprised by this? I didn’t even pay attention to the show until the last half hour of the series and knew he would be the next one. You must be an idiot to have not seen what ABC was doing.
That Deanna was BANANAS – Jason was the catch of the season, so hopefully he will find something true and real on the show. Who knows if that actually can happen – aside from Trista and Ryan, has the show actually made a genuine, long-term match? Anyway…hope it works out for him. It would be even better if ABC started shooting this show in HD – He would be AMAZINGLY beautiful in HD – even more so than he already is!
