(This item contains SPOILERS, so proceed with caution.) Now that Breaking Dawn has broken out, and all of its shocking secrets are secret no more, we got Stephenie Meyer to sit down with us again to talk about some of the book’s more controversial aspects, including: Jacob’s imprinting on Renesmee, the details of Bella’s pregnancy, and the nature of love versus free will. Check out our 10-part series (five of which are embedded below) conducted by EW’s Alynda Wheat, and post your comments below!

Personally, I liked Breaking Dawn overall.

It’s funny sometimes, when something becomes a household name, the work begins to slide, a la Breaking Dawn.

  • Jeez

Welcome to EW, where we’re going to turn this crap into the next Harry Potter if it takes every last bit of credibility our employees have.

  • phillybella

I actually loved Breaking Dawn and have already watched all 10 of these (very informative) clips. She does a great job of clearing up the misconceptions of her book and I walked away being a bigger fan of both her and the series.

  • bethie

THANK YOU to Jeez, who just about summed up my feeling on this topic. PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE EW, stop reporting on this non-event. I get it – some people dig this craptacular book series. Stop trying to make “twilight” happen! (BTW, isn’t it already a hit, which doesn’t really need all this ferosh press push on the site???)

    Terrible..terrible book.
    Goodbye EW…my friend…my brother…my son.

  • Johnny

Oh thank god. I thought I was the only one sick to death about this book and its author. Look, I have nothing against these books since I have not read them, but for EW to act as though this is the second coming of HP is ridiculous. When the last HP book came out last year, it was all over the news and really was quite the phenomenom. When Breaking Dawn came out last week, I think the only place where I heard about it was from EW. And to think, the movie is coming out soon so you know that will be another cover and even more PW posts.

All of the Twilight books are overrated. The book is interesting at times and easy to read, but the writing is terrible and I’m sick of hearing how amazing Edward is. Blech. Give me Sirius Black any day.

EW.com is full of other items to read if Breaking Dawn doesn’t fancy your interest, so I don’t see why everyone’s complaining about its exposure. Sure, they may be overdoing it a bit, but compared to their less avoidable American Idol/SatC overexposure, it’s tolerable.
Bottom line, if you don’t want to read about it, skip the articles and interviews. Simple as that.

I really enjoyed Breaking Dawn, sure some aspects (like the pregnancy) were contradictory to ideas and mythos set up in the other novels, but overall it was entertaining, emotional, and tied up most if not all of the loose endings. She recently came out with an “adult” novel The Host that is fantastic and a real tear jerker! Although Iw ill say this, as much as I love the Twilight Saga she is not JK Rowling nor is Bella’s story close to being Harry Potter.

  • Jim

Sweet Fancy Moses! Enough! I wouldn’t mind so much if the movie didn’t look like crap. Harry Potter was nowhere near this forced. The Jonas Brothers feel less pre-packaged. The media isn’t supposed to generate hysteria, it’s supposed to report on it, if it happens organically. I refuse to believe that Twilight is on the same level of Harry Potter, considering this is the last book, and the first time I’ve heard of it. And I keep up on this kind of stuff.

  • MSF

I really don’t understand why these books generate so much hate, or why people who haven’t read them feel the need to comment constantly about their overexposure. I don’t watch American Idol, so I just skip all the countless articles, posts, etc about it. Pretty simple solution! In any case, I really enjoyed Breaking Dawn, thought it was a great ending to a terrific series, and really appreciate that EW made this interview available. Stephenie answers a lot of questions that fans care about, and I’m quite grateful.

  • Jim

Well, for one thing, the books are published by Little, Brown and Company, which was a subsidiary of Time Warner Book Club when the first book was published. Granted, Time Warner Book Club was purchased from Time Warner by Hachett Livre in 2006, but don’t tell me there isn’t some string pulling going on here.

I love Stephanie Meyer and the “Twilight” series. The reason I was frustrated with Breaking Dawn was because Bella was so young! One second she was obsessed with Edward and sex, and the next she was a responsible mother? It seemed like a strange change that happened too quickly. As a teen, I completely related with Bella, but her sudden mother-complex confused me. Obviously she needed to live up to her situation, but I don’t understand why she had the kid in the first place…
I felt (this is probably completely off base, but…) like Meyer was trying to impose her religion into the book, that getting married and having children right away is how life is supposed to be, even in a vampire book. The core focus of the previous three novels had been the Edward/Bella relationship (and then the triangle with Jacob), so the shift to “baby” was a little jarring. I think there could have been a great Breaking Dawn dealing with Bella’s wedding and choices about vampires, without baby…

  • samisam : )

Personally I loved Breaking Dawn. I loved how it began, the middle and the end, though sadly it was the end of the saga. I don’t know why some people thought it was odd and a large change but seriously Bella fit the role as a mother and seriously Renesmee an awesome addition to the Cullen family and I’m glad that Jacob gets to be a part of the familt too.

  • Andrea

    Wow seriously…?
Some of you guys are really acting stupid. Acting as if it’s the 2nd installment of HP? Oh god. So when there is a big frenzy over Breaking Dawn oh god it is so very annoying I think I am going to die. But when it’s an HP book then it’s OK?
    WOW.
Seriously if you don’t like the series then why are you even here? You just wasted your time posting that comment.

  • Jessi

you know what? i think that the people who DIDN’T read the twilight book shouldnt judge the book already because how would those people know if this twilight book isn’t as good as harry potter? because unless you read the whole series then you can judge. i just don’t understand why people can’t grasp the fact that harry potter isn’t the only good book in the world. that there will be ones that just might be better…

  • Epcot Girl

Including a playlist with each book is pretty cool, but the music is so unoriginal. Meyer should be looking for indie stuff like The Rescues’ “My Heart with you.”

  • Hannah

I really LOVE her, and her books! She seems like an awesome person to know!

  • Tauroa

wow. I truly do idolise Stephenie Meyer even more. I absolutely adore the Twilight saga and do no think any of the story should have been different. Very, very satisfied. The only thing i’ve been wondering on, is. Didn’t Bella have a fear of blood? Then all of a sudden she’s drinking it; still human. Strange. Anyhoo love the four books and Stephenie Meyer!

  • Sarah

I loved Breaking Dawn it was everything that I could ask for. Those of you who say that she isn’t fit for the mother role or its just to weird. Think maybe some of those teen mothers like that bella is now a strong woman with a husband at her side. Those who disagree with her being a vampire go back and read the part of her being a vampire. Besides its fiction so get over it. Thanks Stephenie for a wonderful saga it was amazing and I hope you never quit writing! I’m also Team Harry Potter and Twilight so those of you who don’t read twilight remember that some of us do still love harry potter and that you have room to move in twilight.

  • Gratritrez

I love all the books and I thought that Breaking Dawn was superb – compelling, dark and spellbinding.
Stephenie Meyer is a fantastic writer with a huge imagination and her writing has the capacity to make you cry and smile.
I think that if you don’t like these books then don’t bother commenting because no one wants to hear you whine.
These books are way better than Harry Potter which personally I just am not able to read because they are so boring.
I can’t wait until the movie of Twilight comes out.
Stephenie should keep writing and not listen to the haters because none of them managed to write a series that captivated millions of people all over the world, so they should keep their trap shut.
    End of discussion.

  • FabJillyG

I really enjoyed these interviews with Stephenie Meyer – - thanks EW! I am glad that Bella became a vampire in Breaking Dawn, though I agree that the story feels much different after Bella is no longer human. It was interesting to hear Stephenie Meyer’s comments on that and on why the series, as told from Bella’s viewpoint, is now done (and also energizing to watch Stephenie’s enthusiam for her characters and their stories). Breaking Dawn was not my favorite book in the series, but I enjoyed the entire series overall and will be very excited when Midnight Sun (or any other potential spin-off) stories are released. I don’t care so much for Renesmee’s name, but I would love to read more about what she ends up doing and to learn more about her life as one of the only half-human/half-vampires in existance. I would also love to know more about what it is like to be Bella and Edward’s daughter. Thanks, Stephenie Meyer, can’t wait for what may come next!

  • dee

wow!! this was a really cool interview. i loved watching it. i am really excited for the movie and midnight sun. i hope she decides to write a book about renesme or leah.

  • alice

I agree with Stephenie, the way she wrote the books IS the story. No matter what people think or no matter what people wanted, this is the way the story goes. I really hope she writes a story on Renesmee’s pov! Or at least release some kind of little story of her.

  • ann

I love Stephenie’s work. I think these interviews remind us how human she is and that they are just book, really good ones, but books none-the-less. There is no reason for people to get so up in arms over their anger at BD. Stephenie wrote the story as she saw it, and as the writer, it’s her freedom to do so. Keep up the amazing work Stephenie! We appreciate you.

  • Prium

The fact that you guys can even compare this to Harry Potter displays your complete lack of intelligence. I’ve read all of the twilight books, and I can honestly say that the plot is minimal, the characterization is flat, and breaking dawn was the worst book ever written. J.K. Rowling is known for her ability to elegantly create a plot intermingled with both the character’s strife, and their conquests. Stephanie Meyer decides that breaking dawn will entail the following….Bella gets what she wants. Edward gets what he wants. Jacob gets what he wants. Lets skip off into the sunset. Really, Meyer, the lack of creativitiy and originality is stifling. I am truly disgusted. And by the way, to you morons out there that think she is ‘clearing up misconceptions’ or ‘explaining herself,’ she’s not. She’s defending her book because, in short, its a piece of crap. The interviewer can’t even make her look good, despite asking her questions in the politest manner possible.

  • Gupt.

I agree with Prium. You guys are complete morons that need to read something beside over exposed, pop culture, bull.

  • Ana

Okay, one thing I would’ve asked if I was interviewing Stephenie, and I don’t know if it comes from my parents being cuban…but when Bella finally becomes a vampire and she and Edward spend their first night together she asks him if he misses anything about her being human. And he simply responds that he’s the HAPPIEST person alive right now, that he doesn’t miss anything. Was I the only one that felt like being in Bella’s shoes and slapping the hell out of Edward?? (Yes, I said SLAP, don’t worry he’s currently the love of my life but here’s why…) Hello?! From the ending of the first book all the way through the third, and ESPECIALLY the second one, he was COMPLETELY against her becoming a vampire, he DID NOT want it. Yes, yes, it’s for her safety, ya di ya di ya, but crap for him to turn around and say I am ABSOLUTELY the happiest person alive, well hell! We should’ve taken care of this sooner! LOL Sorry HAD to get that off of my chest.

  • Penguin

I want EDWARD to my self!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! So sexy and HOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
