It's Brand, b---!

The promos for Sept. 7’s MTV Video Music Awards, featuring host Russell Brand and a healthy (dare we say happy?) Britney Spears are a hit. Are you ready for Britney’s return?

Honestly, I’m happy to see that Britney seems to be doing well. But who the $#*& is Russell Brand?

  • wontonjon

Huh. How about that? She looks put together and not losing it. Good for her! I’ve never particularly cared for her music, but it’s always nice to see someone get back on track

  • IndianaJenn

I’m so glad I’m not the only one, Winona. I was feeling old there for a sec- not knowing who the host of the VMAs was.

  • Lizzy

I really am looking forward to Britney getting back…when she isn’t going crazy she actually is adorable.
I love Russell Brand…Forgetting Sarah Marshall is still one of my favorite movies of the year

  • DM

Glorious. As soon as I saw the elephant, I started laughing.

  • Natalie

Love the adverts. Elephant was a nice touch…lol! So nice to see Britney looking good again!

  • veronica

I love russell brand! he is soo funny! and britney looks good too. its nice to c her looking healthy. but w/RUSSELL hosting i might just watch this year’s VMAs.

  • Daniel

I still can’t believe I missed his appearance on Conan (which got a “Cheers” from TV Guide) from a few weeks ago. I’ve scoured the web, but I can’t find a clip of it anywhere. :(

  • RayT

If “Blackout,” the best album she’s ever made, couldn’t spark a comeback, I don’t know what can.

  • Eric

Kudos to Britney. She’s looking spectacular. I’m excited for her to have some new material, that she’s going to go out and promote. Soon her star will be shining brightly again. I hope that she performs at the VMA’s.

  • amy

elephant in the room!! Hilarious! I still don’t know about Russell Brand though. Britney looks great.. good for her and her family… Hopefully, if she makes an appearance at the VMA’s, it will be to present or something…nothing to over the top!

  • graeme

Through all her troubles, I can’t believe Britney can return and still be her charming self and put a big grin on my face.
All the more power to her.
I’m a little worried that they dropped promotion (and future singles) off “Blackout” in order to push a new album. It’s gonna be difficult to top the quality of “Blackout”, but I think the producers, writers, and Britney knows how good the material has to be, so hopefully it is.

  • Q-A

It’s hilarious… I wonder though, will Blackout will ever be recognize as the best dance cd ever (push over madonna), since everybody thinks it wasn’t a comeback…

“Blackout” is a solid pop album. Gimme More, Radar, Piece of Me, Heaven on Earth, Break the Ice, Why Should I Be Sad, Get Naked. All these songs are top notch. It’s funny how Britney’s CD was considered a failure when creatively, and yes even commercially it isn’t. Think about it. The CD was widely bootlegged online 2 weeks prior to it’s release. She did no promotion for it. And also did a near career ending performance at the VMA’s. With all that she still managed a 1st week of 275K. Janet and JLo were both sane, and out there promoting their new albums, and both couldn’t even garner the same 1st week sales as a crazy, head shaven, out of control, fan alienating Britney Spears. So if she is finally back on track and on her game, she will do very well. She should just perform “Radar” though if she does perform. Leave the new CD for Summer 09 and give Blackout some much deserved attention.

Is it just me or does she look like she’s trying to lean as far away from Russell as possible? It must be bad if you’d rather lean against an ELEPHANT than a human being. Elephants are kinda stinky. But she looks good, healthy, and like she’s having fun. I don’t respect her choices too much, but I also don’t like the way the media treats her and the other girls her age (Lindsay, MaryKate/Ashley, etc.).

  • Raven_Moon

I love Russell Brand! I may actually watch the VMA’s this year. Also, it was nice seeing Britney looking better.

  • dan

Who is “russell brand”? Is this guy famous? I’ve never even heard of him.

  • Danielle

I know of Russell Brand because he did an interview with the Spice Girls on their reunion tour and they were trying to hook him up with Geri. He brought his Mom on the interview.

  • kristen

hahahahahaaaa the “elephant in the room”. loved it, very clever touch.

  • klo

have to agree with some and chime in — Blackout is SUCH a solid album, I listen to it at the gym and marvel at how good all the songs are, can’t believe get naked wasnt a huge #1 smash, LOVE that song!

  • escargot

Russell is hilarious, he’s the only reason I’ll be tuning in to the VMAs. And yes, Brit looks like she’s going to back herself right off the sofa to get away from him!

  • irma

its so good to see britney looking healthy and happy and this promo spot is the perfect next step to fixing her image.. way to go brit! and i hope you give a bonus to your agent cause hes working miracles

  • Monee

I am glad to see her back. Makes me wonder what was going through her mind just a year ago. What a difference just a little bit of time can make.

  • JDO64

Blackout was the first Brit CD I ever bought & it is great! I take it to the gym! I agree, it is a very solid CD. Just think how well it would’ve done if she was well enough to have promoted it? I hope she gets it together.

  • AJ

I would pee my pants and jump for joy if she made a return to the VMA’s and gave us a little old school Britney performance. America likes two things in their superstars — to see them crumble and then to see them rise again. I would love to see her rise again!!

  • Anon

Isn’t Russell Brand that guy from Forgetting Sarah Marshall???
Aside from that, I’m just happy Britney’s gotten back to her old self, and I definitely look forward to more of her music…but I do miss the Oops I Did it Again days.

  • Tate

How was “Blackout” anyone’s favorite Britney album? The songs were overproduced and written by people that are so out of step with who Britney is. On top of that, she took the easy way out and exploited the sexual angle like never before. I mean, really, how much thought and talent does it take to add the moaning girl on “Piece of Me”? What’s next? Full on porn? Britney was never the most talented kid, but she is better than that. I think she should take a step back a do something totally unexpected – an album of mellow, Alanis-like songs. What possibly could the tabloid goons say or do then?

  • strickens_girl

I honestly couldn’t care any less.

  • Colby’s Wife

WTF Cares About Slutney? Now that she’s rid of her kids and can party hearty, she’s finally happy and healthy? That sucks. Why don’t you media cover the hardworking artists who play straight and have talent other than as striptease artists.

  • Jessica S

Here’s hoping whatever she’s cooking up is better than last years comeback performance. I do enjoy the spots because she looks healthier than she has in a long time. Whether she ever “sings” again means nothing to me, but I do want her to succeed for those fans that have stuck by her through her struggles.
Also, it took me seeing the commercial three times to remember that Russell Brand is the dude from ‘Forgetting Sarah Marshall’-that doesn’t bode well for show.
