People say Showgirls is the best bad movie of all time (and true Showgirls does have skin, though I think I like it better on TV when they use an el Marko to draw in bras on the dancers), but to American Anthem has it all: bad acting, a weird “phantom of the opera-like” sub-plot, daddy issues and the most overrought PA announcing since John Tesh.

This movie was the string cheese of it’s day but it was fun. Plus,singer/guitarist Andy Taylor of Duran, Duran, totally ripped off the 70’s country rock band The Bellamy Brother’s with his song “Take it Easy”. The melody of the chorus is too similar. “Take it easy, on yourself.” “Just let your love flow,like a mountain stream.”
Few people recognize the amazing feat of engineering that was 1980s hair…
I only watched this movie for Andy Taylor’s song.
Come on: this movie is a “so bad it’s good” contender… but have you ever seen the Olympic-star-moves-worked-into-an-unbelievably-bad-movie called “Gymkata” ?
