I, too, was dissapointed that Paper Planes didn’t make it into the movie. It was still hilarious, but that song is so much fun that it’s hard not to miss it.
Man! Are you serious? That was the best part of the trailer. And I heard that she might retire from music. Wth?
Sin City did the same thing w/ their trailer.
WTF? I saw the movie yesterday and was equally surprised/disappointed by the song’s absence. That song totally helped sell that trailer. The funny thing is, at first I had no idea which song it was and had to look it up on the internet. Turns out, it was on the very MIA cd I’d bought last December on a whim; it had appeared on lots of critics’ year-end lists and I figured I’d give it a shot. I’d forgotten I’d even bought the cd but have since given it the attention it deserves. Good album, great song, and Pineapple Express’ loss.
If you really are going to see a movie just to hear a song, first off, HUH?! Secondly, save yourself $11, stay home and get the track off of iTunes. This is just like people being disappointed about the Staind song that was in the trailer for The Punisher, but not in the movie (which confuses the hell out of me because the artist being looked foward to was STAIND, and the movie the money was wasted on was THE PUNISHER). People should know by now that songs heard in the trailers don’t always get in the movies, and that’s probably because it wouldn’t fit in the flow of the movie, regardless if it worked nicely for the trailer (remember Jay-Z’s ‘Aint No Love’ for the American Gangster trailer? That song wouldn’t necessarily fit for that movie’s era setting, would it?) However I must admit, MIA’s song was a perfect choice for Pineapple’s trailer. But judging by all the good stuff I’m hearing about the movie, I’m sure I can manage without it.
that song has no bearing on whether i’d see the movie or not – i go to see movies for the MOVIE, not the soundtrack. unless it was like, a movie about music…personally, i don’t what all the fuss is about when it comes to M.I.A. – the song is catchy, but it’s not mindblowing. i loathe pretentious music snobs trying to herald someone who is marginally talented as the next coming or something.
It was one of the most brilliant uses of a song in movie trailer but I didn’t assume that the song would be in the movie. It isn’t really that rare that a song used a movie trailer isn’t actually in the movie. Everyone should do themselves a favor and buy both of MIA’s albums.
i love that song too, after i saw the movie i had to go download it on itunes
I actually heard “Paper Planes” a long time before it was used in the “Pineapple Express” trailer. I’m kinda irritated that now it is popular because people associate it with smoking pot when the song is actually about immigration, just because the song mentions getting “high like planes.” But oh well, I guess the more people who listen to M.I.A. the better.
The song was in the friggin’ COMMERCIAL. Why does that mean it HAS to be in the movie?
That’s stOOpid.

i really liked the mix of that song with the trailer, but the movie does have a great soundtrack, so i don’t mind it being absent.
It really is a great song. Especially when High. Perfectfor Pineapple.
why does it say sticks and stones and weed and bongs if its not associated with weed?
