Finally, a legitimate reason for me to celebrate Duran Duran on PopWatch. In preparation for Sunday’s holiday, I suggest you take a few moments to enjoy the videos embedded below — visual proof that myself and their Red Carpet Massacre collaborators Justin Timberlake and Timberland are not the only ones prepared to fete them.
Last May, the Killers joined them onstage for "Planet Earth" in Vegas…
while Billy Corgan helped them out on "The Chauffeur" in Chicago:
After the jump, weigh in on your favorite Duran Duran music videos.
A few options to get you thinking:
• "Girls on Film" (naughty live, too*)
• "Rio"
*For great live videos, check out TheSchemer’s page on YouTube

I remember seeing them in concert a few years back and on all the previous shows they had been closing with “Wild Boys” (which is my favorite DD song ever) and the one freakin’ time they decide to close with “The Reflex” was the night I saw them in D.C. — I was so bitter that I sat down through the whole song. “Wild Boys”, “Union of the Snake” and “Save A Prayer” have always been some of my favorites. Gotta love the cheese factor.
Wild Boys for sure, New Moon on Monday too.
Best videos are Rio and Hungry like the Wolf
For me it’s Wild Boys no contest. The competition for second though is close between Girls on Film, New Moon on Monday or My Own Way (the more 80′s the better as I always say)
The first and the best! My first Duran Duran video was “Girls On Film”! I loved it way back then (dayum I am getting old) and I love it now! It is on my iPod!
Rio was a great video. Love Wild Boys. Hungry Like A Wolf was also a great video. Lets face it, 80s videos were, for the most part, awesome.
“Wild Boys” is by far my favorite music video (hello Simon tied down on a spinning wheel of death), but I also love Arcadia’s “Election Day” because Simon is FINE in that video and it’s so arty. “The Flame”, also from Arcadia which I’m totally grouping in with Duran Duran, is hilarious! Simon and Nick in a haunted house is just awesome.
So, I’m celebrating Duran Duran Appreciation Day by wearing my fav DD tour t-shirt, drawing a fake DD tattoo on my arm like John’s, and watching Duran Duran, Arcadia, and Power Station music videos all day.
Loved loved LOVED Hungry Like the Wolf and Wild Boys. They were oh so yummy!!!! 25 years later and I’m still a screaming groupie.
Why is this day called National Duran Duran Appreciation Day ?
I got to see them on the RCM tour this year too, Mandi, and it was so much fun! As far as their videos, I’d have to say the one for “(Waiting for) the Nightboat” is my favorite just because of the cornball acting and some of the guys who are ‘turned’ into zombies (or something) look like they’ve been smeared with colored oatmeal. My high school friends and I spent hours watching their videos and I still remember some of the spots we paused on. My other fav is probably “Rio” – just looks like a fun time (until the end where most of the guys look seasick).
Duran Duran is the best band of 80′s and of course the best band still today. Simon, John, Nick, and Roger still look great after all these years. I don’t have a favorite song because I love all their song. Duran Duran keep rocking on because you all are the greatest band around.
I am so glad that Duran Duran have a “day”. I have adored these guys for 25 years and they deserve a lot of credit and kudos for their contributions to the musical landscape. The music came first and their good looks just made it better.I hope they stay around another 30 years, I am very selfish!
AWESOME ! It’s about time the boys get their own day ! I’ve been a devoted Durannie since 1983, and always will be ! Never stop DD
