Peter V. Brett’s Demon Trilogy, starting with the 2009 release of book 1 — The Painted Man (Global release)/The Warded Man (US release) — will be big. It’s dark, violent, brutal at times … but still walks a line that can almost be considered “young reader”, at least enough so that the inevitable movie adaptation can be a mainstream PG-13 blockbuster rather than a hard-R cult hit. Look it up. Track the buzz.
I don’t mean to be a stick in the mud here, but isn’t sci-fi short for science fiction? I thought the Potter series would be considered very strongly in the fantasy genre, not sci-fi. The Martian Chronicles by Ray Bradbury, sci-fi. Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton (RIP), sci-fi. “Nightfall” by Isaac Asimov, sci-fi. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone by Joanne “Jo” Rowling… not sci-fi.
