The Associated Press has ranked Will Ferrell’s Top 5 vocal performances in movies:
5. "Baby It’s Cold Outside" from Elf.
4. "(I’d Go the) Whole Wide World" from Stranger Than Fiction.
3. "Afternoon Delight" from Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy.
2. "Con Te PartirĂ²" ("Time to Say Goodbye") from Step Brothers (pictured).
1. "Dust in the Wiind" from Old School.
Is this the right order? I haven’t seen Step Brothers yet, but I find it hard to believe that anything could beat the four-part harmony of "Afternoon Delight" (embedded after the jump). Though maybe credit should go to Steve Carell for that one.

I actually think the “Baby, It’s Cold Outside” bit from “Elf” is one of the best parts in that movie and should be near the top. Just a really cute and funny scene between him and Zooey Deschanel. It was nice to see Ferrell take a short break from playing the overbearing/cocky/loud guy and doing a scene where he was as sweet as all the syrup Buddy liked to pour on everything.
I haven’t seen a few of them, but I have to agree, Afternoon Delight should be placed higher. Nothing beats that. Or maybe Carrell’s falsetto was taken out of consideration when they made this list.
“Con te partiro” was EXCELLENT. He can really sing. “Dust in the Wind” was funny, but if we’re strictly basing this on vocals, I would put “Con te partiro” as number one.
Amanda, you’re right. Ferrell can really sing.
Of course, my favorite singing performance of his isn’t from a movie. It’s from his Neil Diamond impersonation (“You hate your keyboard player because he’s black!”) on SNL.
I forget the song but Will singing to John C. Reilly in their bedroom in Step Brothers was also AWESOME.
I think my personal fave out of the list is “Whole Wide World”. He’s just so sweet and unassuming when he sings it, it’s no wonder Maggie Gyllenhaal couldn’t keep her hands off him.
i agree beth. there’s an innocence about the whole scene that sets it up perfectly.
I’m disappointed my favorite part of “Semi-Pro” – the number one hit “Love Me Sexy”- didn’t make the list..maybe it doesn’t count because he didn’t actually sing it in the movie?
the song from stepbrothers was definitely the best….the others were all great too but he actually sang a whole song and it was perfect…he should make an album!
I agree with Kansas being number one because that scene was so memorable… “You’re my boy Blue!!!!” and Old School happens to be one of my fav movies ever!. I liked Afternoon Delight and can’t wait to see Step Brothers to see if the movie belongs on this list. The song from Elf was so sweet and funny so i agree with it being on here too. I know many don’t like Will but I enjoy him and his movies.
I can’t hear “Dust In the Wind” Without saying, “You’re my boy Blue!!” Priceless!
My favorite is his duet with Jack Black at the Oscars that ended with a shout out to Del Taco about neverending acceptance speeches
love me sexy is hysterical!!! From Semi-Pro
“Con Te PartirĂ²” was great, but John C. Reilly saying “boats and hoes” at all the wrong times MADE the scene.
This one is random, but did anyone see “Winter Passing” with Zooey D. and Ed Harris. He sang “I Can’t Tell You Why” in a bar, and it was beautiful. I think I read that his father is a musician (perhaps his mother), so he’s got musical chops. But what I love is that he sings in character, much like how John Travolta dances in character. In Step-Brothers, he let it fly, and it was appropriately shocking.
What? No love for the “Guten Tag Hop, Hop” from The Producers?
