En garde! Yes, indeed, it’s time for another round of PopWatch Duel! For those new to the sport, here’s the skinny: we ask celebs for their top picks on a particular topic. Then you head to the comments section and declare which participant has the better list. Easy, breezy, and no one gets hurt.(Unless you count wounded pride.)
We recently caught up with the Jonas Brothers and Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz on the set of FNMTV (Fridays, 8 p.m. ET/PT, MTV), the show that’s out to save the endangered species known as the music video. In case you missed last Friday’s show, let me fill you in on some big news: This year, not only are the Jonas Brothers performing live during their first ever MTV Video Music Awards appearance, but this year also marks the first time in VMA history that fans will have the chance to vote for the nominees.
And speaking of voting, let’s get back to the duel. We asked the Jonas Brothers and Wentz to each name their five favorite music videos. Yeah, our battle pits three against one, but then again, Kevin, Joe, and Nick all had to agree on the same five selections — no easy task. Check out the dueling countdowns, then vote for the winner, after the jump…
Jonas Brothers:
1. a-ha’s "Take on Me": We found this on YouTube and loved it so much we added the song to our set list on our last tour.
2. Michael Jackson’s "Thriller": This video set the standard for so many things — production, choreography, makeup, and wardrobe. It’s iconic.
3. Beastie Boys’ "Sabotage": We love the retro look in this video, and all the action scenes are awesome.
4.Fall Out Boy’s "Dance Dance": The homecoming theme is cool…especially when the underdogs become the life of the party and wineveryone over.
5. Chris Brown’s "Forever": Chris is an amazing dancer. When critics were labeling him the new Michael Jackson, we took notice.
Pete Wentz:
1. Nirvana’s "Smells Like Teen Spirit": [The video] made me want to learn how to go into a mosh pit.
2.Guns N’ Roses’ "November Rain": Though you could go with a multitudeof Guns N’ Roses’ videos, that one was awesome because it took up thelength of two videos… Slash forgets the rings… Duff has therings… Riki Rachtman is in the video… they jump through a weddingcake, and Axl Rose kisses that babe… an awesome video.
3.Michael Jackson’s "Thriller": The epic video of all videos. You can’ttop it… it’s groundbreaking. No one thought you could make a musicvideo like that, and it was pretty freaky. He made the music video anevent, you know, like people tuned in to watch it, which is what we’retrying to do with the show.
4.Blink 182’s "First Date": Because that’s just one of the most awesomevideos ever. They have fake mustaches the whole video…and TomDeLonge probably has one of the best ‘what the f—’ faces you’ve everseen, and they drive around in a Cheech & Chong van the entire time.
5. A tie: Jay-Z’s "99 Problems"/Notorious B.I.G’s "Hypnotize"
Okay, PopWatchers, it’s time to do your civic duty: Who has the better list of Five Best Videos Ever? Vote now! And don’t leave any hanging chads!

Does the winner get a gold-plated flat iron?
I give it to Pete, only because he didn’t have to refer to YouTube to discover one of his choices. Yikes JoBros – I think the A-Ha video comes standard with any “Remember the 80s” kit.
hmmm..Common sense:jonas brothers!
The Jonas brothers lose big time for saying “We found this on YouTube”…
Oh god, the Jonas Brothers found A-Ha on YouTube??? I’M SO OLLLLLD!!!!!! That was practically a staple in my MTV viewing. My friends and I would wait by the TV in hopes to catch a glimpse of Morten Harket’s feathered hair. Ahhh, the good old days.
considering how the A-ha video, in video timeline age, can be considered Jurassic – how the hell else would they find the video except on YouTube? Time travel? Most of the videos on both lists are quality noms but I have to give it to the JoBro for their inclusion of “Sabotage”. Beastie Boy videos beat out Guns ‘n Roses any day. I don’t think “Thriller” belongs on the list. There should be a difference between regular music videos and “epic” music videos. I would’ve listed Power Station’s “Some Like It Hot” and the Go-Go’s “Vacation”.
Wow, this was a lot harder than I thought it would be. Wentz takes the win, but barely. MAJOR props to the Jonas Brothers (never thought I’d say that!) for picking Sabotage.
Seriously? Neither picked Madonna videos, Peter Gabriel, Bjork, any of their groundbreaking videos? Its just sad the kids these days not seeing hours and hours of videos straight on MTV.
the jonas brothers petes are a lil borning:(
How about any Duran Duran music video? I want to say neither wins, but I’ll go w/ the Jonas Brothers for the A-ha choice.
Both are good lists. But I think The Jonas Brothers list is slightly better.
Ooof, I have to say, including “Dance, Dance” nearly lost the JOBro’s their credibility, but Pete Wentz appears like he’s trying too hard to be a little mainstream, including Jay-Z and Blink-182 (as I recall, that video wasn’t that good). But props for the JOBro’s for admitting (indirectly) that their new music video was inspired by (sing it!) “SABATOGE!”
neither…jonas brothers lose because they found “take on me” on youtube and pete wentz loses cause he’s pete wentz (“i hope you hang yourself with your h&m scarf/while jackn off listening to mozart”)
the jonas bros have a great selecion though not perfect coz the world’s best video i think has to be placed number one since it’s like the mother of all good pop and music videos plus it was perrformed by a king
The JoBros are my favorite music lovers. They are BABIES! And considering that, they have exquisite taste.
Their Burnin Up vid was SO sabotage, and I loved it.
And no matter what the haters say about them being Disney and fake, etc, I hear them on why they picked “Dance, Dance” – because THEY are the underdogs and the outsiders when it comes to the mainstream acceptance they deserve. Doing what they do with the label they are doing it more daring than most of what is happening in pop and they deserve props for their guts and fortitude to keep keeping on.
I LOVE EM! They put on a great show.
Jonas Brothers..Coz I Love Them, And Closer By Chris Brown Is Kinda Good.
I Love Nick Jonas
<3
When I first saw a duel between Jonas Brothers and Wentz, I assumed that Wentz was going to win. But seeing the list, I’m going with the Jonas Brothers. As much as I like Nirvana and Guns&Roses, Sabotage and Take On Me win.

Nary a non-obvious choice among them. If Pete Wentz is responsible for bringing back the music video, we’re in trouble. Maybe the Jonas Brothers could direct him to “Sledgehammer” on YouTube…
Wow, queen of disrepair, “how the hell else would they find the video except on YouTube? Time travel” A little harsh don’t you think?
I reluctantly agree that the Jonas Brothers won this. Although “Smells Like Teen Spirit” and “November Rain” are both classic, great videos, “Take On Me” and “Sabotage” trump them. I also agree with others about how annoying it is that The Jonas Brothers say they “found” a-Ha’s video on youtube. It makes it sound like they made some grand discovery that no one else knows anything about. Me thinks you might have heard about it a million times on VH1 and then maybe went to youtube.
Gotta give this one to JB!!
The Jonas Brothers definately won this one! I love you Nick!!!
JB ALL THE WAY!!!
jb
Take on Me is to legit to be beaten.
It’s close, but Jonas Brohers take it.
JONAS ALL THE WAYYY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!
♥
i love jonassssssssssss brothers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! theyyyy rockkkkkkkkkkkkkkk !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! i LOVE YOUUU JOEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
OMG Katy! Sledgehammer was a great video.
Jonases win this easily.
the jonas brothers will TOTALY WIN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
No,no,no Anonymous – I wasn’t being harsh – these kids were born well after most of the videos they picked were in any kind of rotation anywhere but YouTube. I meant as a slice against those that seemed to be offended that by “finding” them on YouTube those nice boys were taking credit instead of acknowledging their source. I will admit to being cranky, having just had surgery, but not harsh ;}
