I’ve seen TDK twice…
and each time i see it. Heath still amazes me. He is the first actor that i believe has totally removed himself from a character. The jokers mannerism everything is amazing. He deserves an oscar, not because of his death but because of this earth shattering performance.
TDK Oscar Noms- Best Pic, Best Screenplay, Best Direction, Best Support Actor [Ledger and Eckert]
and of course the technical awards also!
I have no faith in the Oscar noms. Every year the real deserved winner is passed over while the Academy tries to cover it’s behind by awarding it to people who should have won for prior work. It’s a never ending cycle. So, because of this I don’t mind if Ledger wins for the Joker. 1. He should have won for Brokeback and 2. He actually was amazing, and so far this movie season, is the deserved winner in my eyes.
If Anthony Hopkins was considered for an OScar far Hannibal Lector then Heath Ledger’s Joker must be considered.
I agree at least an Oscar nomination for Heath. What a great character he created. If only the Academy could come down from their palace in the sky and recognize that it should be about what the audience reacts best to, appreciates and enjoys. But this year should be a tough one because there are a lot of great movies this year and we have yet to see them all.
I just want to say that unfortunately it’s not the general public who decides who is eligible for OR who receives the Oscar- correct me if I’m wrong but I think that’s why we have the PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARDS -LOOK BACK AND SEE HOW MANY ACTORS & ACTRESSES HAVE WON THE PEOPLES & THEN THE OSCARS NOT MANY- NOT MANY I feel the general public really has no say- sorry
The Oscars is the big joke. It has become so big and unpredictable it is the joke. Giving an award to a dead man for the wrong reasons is typical in Hollywood. The name movies like they have not taken high school English. They make movies that are not. They can honor Heath if they want – as an actor. If they want an Oscar for him in the comedy category that is fine. But for best actor? Batman is a comic book character, fictional and bit if sci-fi thrown in. The Joker is a joke. Again Hollywood succeeded in creating a gold mine.
The Oscars don’t have categories like “comedy”… That’s the golden globes.
Would Heath Ledger be getting all this Oscar buzz had he not passed away? I’m seriously asking this question.
And on a separate note – that Alonzo makes no sense at all.
You know, I had to make myself think about Heath Ledger’s performance and would I still think it was amazing if he was still alive and my thoughts were hands-down, yes! He absolutely was chilling and incredible and deserves a nomination…and probably the Oscar unless someone can out-do his performance. But I watch the Oscars every year no matter what. I love art of all kinds and really appreciate seeing ppl recognized, esp. when it didn’t require a Blockbuster to get noticed. There’s definite con’s and they do miss the mark at times on the noms and wins, but overall, I think it’s still on point. As far as The Dark Knight not worthy of being nominated because of it’s genre, are you kidding me? Art is art..some is good some is bad. It absolutely deserves the cred.
Seriously people, wasn’t Heath as good or better playing the Joker as Javier Bardem was playing the psycho killer in No Country for Old Men? Just because it is a movie based on a comic book does not diminish the story or the acting.
Heath Ledger does not deserve an Oscar because he died, he deserves one because his performance as the joker is one of the best performances i’ve ever seen, whoever said the guy who plays harvey dent deserves one: NO! loads of actors could have played that part, no one could have played the joker like heath did. i cant think of ANYONE who deserves an oscar this year more than he does, he put a lot of dedication into that part, he deserves it, whether you think its out of sympathy or not, he deserves it
Alonzo, you wrote that post like you haven’t taken high school english. You dumbass.
Heath created the best villain ever in film- better than hannibal lector, better than hal 9000, better than Riddley Scott’s alien, and even better than Javier Bardem’s oscar winning villain. Surely Heath deserves a statue. So does Nolan for that matter for helming such a beautiful epic action film.
If Heath doesn’t at least get nominated, I’m going to be VERY angry. He deserves it without a doubt. He was INCREDIBLE. Stole the movie. TDK is the best movie I’ve seen in years so it should get nominated as well. The Academy’s prejudice against “genre” or “comic book” films is ludicrous. A great film is a great film no matter its source material.
People forget that Russell Crowe won for his role in Gladiator. A blockbuster movie if there ever was one. I haven’t seen Dark Knight yet, but what makes any character within a movie such as this unworthy of an award. Its not a story award, its not a character award, its an acting award, if he was truly deserving its deserved. I hope the academy can truely judge on that basis and not be swayed by his death. But I fear if he does win people will always say its because he died. Its a no win situation in a way, a shame.
