No, Rock Band 2 hasn’t even come out yet, much less any plans for a third one. But the first Rock Band game has become such a major force in the way Americans consume music that the announcement of RB2’s set list this week was a huge deal. I mean, Axl Rose is using it to debut the first official track from Chinese Democracy, dude! (Hopefully this does not mean that Rock Band 2’s release will be unexpectedly delayed for another 14 years.)
So we figure it’s never too early to start brainstorming for the inevitable unveiling of an even bigger Rock Band 3. Personally, now that RB2 has landed the first-ever videogame licensing from Bob Dylan, I’d like to aim high and hope they could nab a Beatles tune. More reasonably, I would love to jam out to the lo-fi goodness of the Olivia Tremor Control. Or — ooh — solo along with noted axeman Lil Wayne!
Your turn: What songs would you pick for this hypothetical Rock Band 3 tracklist? Remember, it has to blow Rock Band 2’s already pretty awesome list out of the water…

I’d love to see Phantom Planet and Kool&the Gang on there. The Jungle Boogie is awesome!
i think your should put on some more acdc and the songs dont stop believing by jorney and all summer long by kid rock
If we’re only talking about artists that haven’t shown up in Rock Band yet:
The Smiths
Pavement
The Jesus & Mary Chain
U2
Ash
I actually prefer the first game’s on-disc songs to the new one’s. While RB2 will have a more diverse setlist, the songs that I consider to be unexpected gems (such as Dylan, Talking Heads, Costello) are somewhat offset by a lot of bands that I don’t care about (Linkin Park, Disturbed, Axl’s band).
But that’s one of the great things about these games: they expose a lot of people to songs that they otherwise wouldn’t hear.
Throwing Muses! Billy O’Connell said he really liked the idea, even! Can I blame this on Warner Bros.?
Led Zeppelin, and actually GOOD songs from Santana(not like black majic woman), and Eruption.
Any thing from The Who
U2
Van Halen
more Motley Crue(older stuff)
original Guns n’ Roses (not the new pseudo G’n'R)
more Metallica
80’s hair metal
Journey
U2
Puddle of Mudd
Breaking Benjamin
Dio
The Outlaws(more specifically, Ghost Riders in the Sky)
Some more Blue Oyster Cult
Van Halen
Journey
Theme song to Family Matters
NOT the Ramones… good music, hard on the drummer.
Creed
Three Doors Down
That pretty much covers it.
I’d like to see some:
Pink Floyd
U2
No Doubt
Bob Marley and the Whalers
Tragically Hip
Doors
Janis Joplin
Jimmy Hendrix
Rolling Stones
Eurythmics
How about Holy Diver?
Journey’s “Separate Ways” is a must and how about”Synchronicity” (just saw The Police and that’s the one song they didn’t sing that I was totally expecting).
how about instead of rb3 pop band hehe it would be funner…
No!!!!!! It will always be rockband
i agree with keira…i think the third installment should be something different…like country band or pop band or 80’s band or something. i love rock band, but more diversity would be nice.
They should have green day on rb3- basket case, hoiliday, when I come around would be good songs.
Here is a List of Music and Artist that i would love to see come to Rock band.. i know Killers and BLink 182 have made it to Rock Band but id like a fuller selection of these two artist along with the rest of my favorite Bands. The Songs i have picked are song are songs that just seem to have that Music Game feel to them. They also are not the more popular of each group makeing them more likely to be chosen

First off, good recommendation by Geemoney. I forgot how awesome that song was. As far as further recommendations are concerned:
At The Drive-In – One-Armed Scissor
Black Rebel Motorcycle Club – Six Barrel Shotgun
Dethklok – Awaken
The Doors – Break On Through
Gogol Bordello – 60 Revolutions
Green Day – Brain Stew/Jaded
Husker Du – Could You Be The One
Jimi Hendrix – Purple Haze
Joy Division – No Love Lost
Marilyn Manson – The Beautiful People
The Mars Volta – Inertiatic E.S.P.
My Morning Jacket – Evil Urges
Neil Young – Rockin In The Free World
Primus – Jerry Was A Race Car Driver
Queen – Bohemian Rhapsody
Silverchair – Freak
Slayer – Raining Blood
The Toadies – Possum Kingdom
White Stripes – Icky Thump
Wilco – Heavy Metal Drummer
(Although unlikely, any track by the Beatles or Led Zeppelin)
One of Popwatch’s best questions ever, particularly since I played Rock Band 1 for hours just last night with a little help from my friends. So, for Rock Band 3 I would like:
The White Stripes–Icky Thump, I’m Slowly Turning Into You
David Bowie–The Man Who Ruled The World, Space Oddity
The Beatles–While My Guitar Gently Weeps, Here Comes The Sun
My Morning Jacket–Off The Record, Evil Urges
Maximo Park–Apply Some Pressure
Modest Mouse–Dashboard, Ocean Breathes Salty
I have to second the people who have mentioned Queen. Many of their songs would be great but I’d really like to see “I Want it All” on there!
BRMC- Six Barrel Shotgun
Focus- Hocus Pocus
Do You Wanna Play?- Extreme
Stone Cold Crazy- Queen
Knights of Cydonia- Muse
Livewire-Motley Crew
This Charming Man- Smiths
We’ve Got The Beat- Go Go’s
Stephanie- If I’m remembering right, I think that “We Got the Beat” was on the list for RB2.
I’m ready for some country on Rock Band 3… What about Keith Urban or Brad Paisley? Their songs have some amazing guitar solos.
Other songs:
The Foo Fighters, “My Hero”
Anything Matchbox Twenty
Bryan Adams, “Summer of ‘69″
Bon Jovi, “You Give Love a Bad Name”
Def Leppard, “Pour Some Sugar On Me”, “Love Bites”, “Photograph”, etc.
I would love to see some Eagles on there. Hotel California was be outstanding!!!!
any white stripes how can we have guitar heros and rock bands without any of those awesome guitar riffs?
Anything but U2 and Coldplay
More of:
Metallica
Coheed and Cambria
Eric Clapton
Guns n Roses
Nirvana
Maiden
guns and roses sucks
I agree with most of you. Definitely some U2, Green Day (to make some drummers cry), White Stripes, more of the Killers, some Led, Arctic Monkeys would be really cool.
Ok. So how about Cherry Bomb by the Runaways?
Dude Motley Crue!
Kickstart my Heart!!!!!
like all the songs from dazed and confused and led zeppelin and maybe bullet for my valentine
i’d love to see “Black Betty” BY RAM JAM.
here’s the full playlist for RB 2 – pretty good stuff any way you look at it.
