We all know I’ll read any story that has the words Hallmark and films in the headline, and I was rewarded recently when I dived into a Variety piece teasing some of the 30 movies on the network’s production slate: Expecting a Miracle, starring Jason Priestley and Teri Polo, will premiere Jan. 3, 2009. I’m emailing Jessica Shaw as soon as I finish this blog item and telling her that I’m reviewing it for the What to Watch section of Entertainment Weekly. Priestley, star of ABC Family’s I Want to Marry Ryan Banks, and Polo, of Hallmark’s Straight From the Heart, together at last? YES!
Now, Variety didn’t give any details about the plot of the film, so the suspense will kill me. What do you think this "miracle" is? It’s premiering post-holidays, so it probably won’t involve an angel that looks like Patty Duke, which is unfortunate, because I’d love a sequel to Hallmark’s 1999 classic A Season for Miracles, starring Carla Gugino and David Conrad. No, seriously.

Well maybe this is a bit obvious, but maybe “expecting” refers to a baby. Not that babies aren’t miracles, but one would think Hallmark would throw some other twist in there.
Polo’s character tries for years to get pregnant before finally deciding that God doesn’t want her to have children. Having given up on the family of her dreams, Polo takes a job in the local coal mine after Priestley’s character injures himself and can no longer support them. After going to the local doctor for what she thinks is the flu, Polo is trapped in mine when it collapses. Unable to reach her, the doctor informs Priestly that Polo is in fact pregnant. Now its a race against time to save his wife and their unborn child. Hallmark presents: Expecting a Miracle.
OK I’ll admit it. I could not stand the suspense so I looked up the plot. I won’t spoil it for anyone! I’ll just say that my guess of the couple having a disabled child fighting to one day compete in the olympics was WAY off.
Jon–do you write for Lifetime? That is great!
I think the more important question here is, when is “I Want to Marry Ryan Banks” ever going to come out on DVD??
That’s not Jason Priestly in the picture, is it? If so, he looks weird.
Oh, and I will bet money the plot is as follows: Priestly and Polo are expecting a miracle. They’re not sure if the miracle will ever come. The miracle almost doesn’t come, then does come at the last second. Everyone is happy that the miracle came, because they were expecting it, and it would have been a giant letdown if the miracle never came. In the end, Priestly has his arm around Ian Ziering and fake punches him in the face twice. All is awesome.
I looked up the plot just now, and I have to say, Jon’s pitch was way more intriguing.
Finally! Someone who appreciates A Season for Miracles. It is my favorite Hallmark movie, and I’m not ashamed to admit it!
Jon WINS!! Awesome.
In somewhat realted commentary – WHY aren’t “I Want to Marry Ryan Banks” or countless other ABC Fam original movies on DVD? Any clue on this Mandi?
What up with Preistly’s face? Was he in a accident or something or is he on some sort of steriods?
Teri Polo hopes to teach Jason Priestly to put the seat down.
Jason and Teri have been married for 10 years and are desperately trying to have a kid, but when the doctor’s report comes back and says Teri cannot bear children, Jason reveals that he was once a woman and is willing to concede (and conceive) so the couple can have a child. Reporters come calling and the tabloids have a field day over this miraculous “Pregnant Man” and the world is astonished over the news… Oh, wait, that’s been done already… Okay, Jason’s hoping the new G3 iPhone he ordered online will arrive in time for Teri’s birthday.
That’s Jason Priestly?!? I barely recognize him. Wow.
Actually, I do know the answer. I wrote the screenplay.
Refreshing. Miracles are real.
I really enjoyed it. The movie reminded me that even though u are struggling in any situation always expect a miracle and God bless all of u who made that movie possible.
