It's time to watch 'The Closer' and 'Saving Grace'

Categories: Television

The Closer, starring Golden Globe winner Kyra Sedgwick, and Saving Grace, featuring Oscar winner Holly Hunter, return tonight to TNT. If you’ve always thought about watching, but haven’t, it’s not too late: You can get caught up in nine minutes. Below, you’ll find your 4:37 recap of The Closer’s third season. Watch it, and you’re ready to jump into cable’s No. 1 series. (Come back tomorrow for our take on the fourth season premiere.)

The Closer

Next, you’ve got your 4:22 primer on Saving Grace. The last time we saw Hunter’s wild Oklahoma City investigator, she had a gun to the head of the priest who molested her when she was young. The season 2 premiere, which brings a twisted resolution to that story line, should establish Hunter as the most fearless actress on television today. (Check out our recent chat with the four-time Oscar nominee and find out which role on her résumé did actually scare her.)

Saving Grace

P.S. Am I the only one who would kill to know what hair product Holly Hunter and costar Laura San Giacomo use?

Love The Closer, hate Saving Grace.

So which role did scare Holly Hunter? I read thru the chat, and didn’t see it? Is it just too early?

  • to patty

Ditto. I’ve tried, cause the hubby likes it, but I’ve not been able to get into Saving Grace.

  • Laurie

Finally! I’ve missed Brenda and the gang so much. Remember when there was nothing on during the summer except for repeats and the odd failed pilot? God bless cable.

Ditto here – luv luv The Closer and can’t stand Saving Grace. Every single character in The Closer is interesting and a joy to watch. Love the Captain, Fritz and especially Provenza. Holly Hunter’s role in Saving Grace is just too self-indulgent.

I like both of them. “The Closer” is an easier show to like. The characters are mostly likeable or fun. “Saving Grace” is more twisted and painful, but it’s got good drama at times and I like that they are trying to better themselves. (If not always succeeding)

Singers name that does the intro to Saving Grace

I love The Closer. I often watch each episode a second time during the week. But last night’s episode reminded me what I hate about the show: Brenda’s relationship with poor beleaguered Fritz. Brenda saves all her Southern belle charm for the interrogation room — she does nothing but whine and complain to Fritz, and he (mostly) just takes it. Their relationship is so one-sided. It seems like she just keeps him around because, as an FBI agent, he is frequently useful to her. But I can never figure out what he sees in Brenda. Oh wait, it must be her body, hence the gratuitous bra-and-panties scene in last night’s episode.

LOVE Saving Grace — courageous, honest, gut-wrenchingly real!!! i literally gasped 3 times during the season opener — sbf in tx raves — go holly!!
As for Closer… er… y a w n.. like we need another southern angela landsbury?! (sorry kyra — loverboy was cool!)

I think the Closer is a great show.
If Holly Hunter would quit talking out of the corner of her mouth like Popeye, perhaps I could tolerate watching Saving Grace.

  • Chris

Both shows are on the top of my list and I look forward to seeing them always.
Kyra and Holly are both amazing!
I love the southern vipercharm of Kyra and there’s no one that can play Grace better than Holly! She’s pure C4 with a constant lit fuse! Chris

Saving Grace is the best show I’ve ever seen. Real, and fabulous.

The Closer is well written and the acting is top notch. However, the editor needs to do his/her job a bit better. In a recent episode, the word illegal was written on the white board and it was spelled wrong .Kyra was standing by the word in a few shots and it seemed though she would have noticed it.

I am another fan of The Closer. It started out with a bang and then just kept getting better. Saving Grace leaves so much to be desired. I kept hoping all last season that the show would get better, It never did. The concept has so much potential. This year’s first show had its moments, but it’s still hollow. Maybe a fifty year old, law-breaking, bar fly cop with the morals of a cat isn’t what I want to learn more about.

  • Robin

I love both Saving Grace and The Closer! I want to know Holly Hunters workout routine!

  • MeLinda

YES! I want to know Holly Hunter’s workout as well! I am going to be 50 and want to have the muscle tone she has…what does she do?

  • Kytha

Both of these shows… I cannot stand. The plots aren’t interesting, Holly Hunters voice drives me up a wall. I know that isnt supposed to pass as southern belle… anyways I simply do not understand people liking either of the shows. Much less golden globes.

Holly Hunter worked out for her role as Billie Jean King. She worked out 2hrs a day, 5 days a week. She doesn’t talk about her diet per se, but says she eats balanced meals. To get that cut and toned looking, weights and cardio are required. Also, very limited or even zero breads, cheese and sodium. Also, no sugar or fried foods. It takes a huge commitment and fierce dedication to stay that tight. She looks great. Love both shows, and all the actors. -Leah

The song for Saving Grace is done by Everlast and can be found on Napster. I have it on my MP3 player.

  • Donna

Holly hunter is the best role model for women that I have seen in a long time.Glad to see new episodes coming up.
