Name the last song you deleted out of shame

Earlier this week, Gawker stumbled upon a page on Last.fm that shows the music files its users have most often deleted. The ensuing comments sent me down a shame spiral, reminding me of the time I tried to erase the catchy head-bopper "Popcorn (Techno mix)" (it helps me write about DWTS, I swear!) mere hours before my friend with superb taste in music came to stay in my apartment. CHECK IT:

Oh, crap. Slezak just IMed me to fact-check this post: "Did you really delete ‘Hot Butter’ before Kristian’s arrival?" And you know I cannot lie to the Blogfather (unless it’s about how great he looks in a zesty new shirt): "No…I removed it from an iTunes playlist, but I did not delete it from my computer."

Big diff. Now it’s your turn. Heed the command in the headline above and name the last song you deleted out of shame!

I didn’t make the school musical, Jekyll and Hyde, but after seeing the show I became upset with the music. Months later, I finally got rid of In His Eyes, but I’m listening to Someone Like You as I type…

I did a ipod clean out recently, but if I can recall, I deleted “Have a Drink On Me” by ACDC (Listening to that song at work just doesn’t seem right) AND “Gimme More” by Britney Spears. . which I swore to myself I would never download.

  • Jelyha

Stacy Q’s Two of Hearts – I loved that song so much when I was 14. In a purely nostalgic mood, I downloaded it and then became totally paranoid that it would ever be seen on my machine…

  • spookycat

Oh Lord. “MMMM Bop” which in all honesty I do not remember down loading.

I got a new Nano for Christmas, and quite a few songs didn’t survive the switch from my old iPod Mini. Most notably were several albums worth of Dave Matthews Band, as I was tired of listening to them and being transported back to high school. I figured it was time for my musical tastes to grow up.

Some song called “Pink Panties”. It was by some generic Beyonce/Rihanna wannabe. Horrific.
(But in my defence, I’d originally downloaded it because I needed songs for a mix I was making for a mixclub I’m in when the theme was ‘clothing’.)

I honestly don’t know that I’ve felt shamed enough to delete anything. I should be that embarrassed by some of it, but I’m just not.
We used “Popcorn” in a comedy show I did last month for a German stand up comic’s dancing girls. So it’s on my iPod too. No shame!

NKOTB. I had my pod in the car the other day and realized about halfway through the song that I’d been groovin to Hanging Tough. It was removed immediately as it’s the SECOND time I’ve caught myself trapped in its web of “oh oh oh oh oh”s!

Just deleted “Get Low” by Lil Jon & Ying Yang Twins. The “clean” version, by the way. Just didn’t want to hear it anymore.

  • Aaron

Definitely just deleted the song “One in a Million” from Miss Congeniality. Sadly, I think it was nominated for a Golden Globe. (Even sadder: I think that’s why I downloaded it in the first place.)

Annie- shame on you for being embarrassed! Let your music freak flag fly! I was in the car with a friend and our 2 14 year old sons last week. I turned on my ipod and the Carpenters came out- everyone else howled so I hit next anf the Blood House Gang The Roof Is On Fire came on- my friend’s son asked what I was doing with this on my ipod. My friend and I then proceeded with a full on 80’s flshback with the Go-gos, Bon Jovi, the Police, Prince, etc. I’ve got something for everyone on my ipod from Frank Sinatra to Chris Brown and love them all unconditionally.

  • Al

Oh, by the way- I think I’ll download that Popcorn techno mix for my older son- he’s into techno. Thanks!

  • Heather

I suppose it was a Good Charlotte song, the last one clinging onto my iPod’s life. The only reason why it was there for so long was because it featured M Shadows and Synster Gates from Avenged Sevenfold.

  • monica

“Wait a minute” Ray J – what was wrong with me?

    Who Let The Dogs Out
    Man…who let the dogs in??

  • Elizabeth

Hey Annie – at least you’re not a baseball player and that was your at-bat song! I remember hearing that at a game and wondering how that didn’t distract the batter or the pitcher for that matter.

  • Sonja

I was at a Canada Day fireworks display and they played Popcorn to accompany the show. My bf and I just died laughing, but we couldn’t stop dancing in our lawn chairs! Thanks for reminding me, I think I’ll download it today.

  • Kath

Lindsay Lohan – Rumors. Beat that.

  • ANTM Freak

“My Heart Will Go On”. And a bunch of American Idol crap.

  • Kelly

Taylor Hicks-Do I Make You Proud
(goes and hides in a corner)

  • Sara

Ooooh… “Angels” by Jessica Simpson. It’s a really cool song (originally done by some British guy) but the way she sings it made me skip it every time.

  • Brilee

DJ Jazzy Jeff and the Fresh Prince, “Nightmare On My Street.” Gotta love a rap about Freddy Kruger killing Jazzy Jeff…

  • Ep Sato

“You Should be Stronger Than Me” by Amy Winehouse. I mostly listen to the Ipod on loudspeakers I installed on my Vespa, and played this song at a scooter rally in Baltimore. I got sour looks and made fun of. Song was deleted the next day. She’s sings “All I need is for my man, to live up to his role”.
I’ve also had to delete all of Snoop Dogg’s catalogue from my ipod, as his dirtiest lyrics always seem to come on when I’m at some random intersection and the children of tourists are all about. It’s a little shameful to be listening to lyrics like “You gave me all your p**sy, and you even licked my b*lls.” when some impressionable kid is passing by.

  • Sarah

I own my choices, no matter how embarrassing. Yes, I bought the Jacques Villeneuve album, in spite of the fact that the English songs (it’s a mix of English and French lyrics) are hilariously dumb at points.

  • Robbie Lover

That “some British guy” that originally sang ‘Angels’ is Robbie Williams. If you want to talk about stuff that’s sinfully delish (future potential shameful deletes), check out Robbie.

  • kelsey

A while ago I deleted every Josh Groban song on my computer. And “When You’re Gone” by Avril Lavigne is gone from my mp3. And one song from One Cell in the Sea by A Fine Frenzy, but I forget which one.
    This is kind of fun.

  • Annie B.

AI, don’t worry, I’m owning my choices too…This post wasn’t anonymous!

  • Leslie

I deleted James Blunt, “You’re Beautiful”. I loved it at first but it got old and cheesy real fast. I’ve also deleted some sad songs that I just didn’t want to listen to anymore.
