I loved this episode of Nashville Star for many reasons. First and foremost, it was only an hour long. Read the full post.

I was not a Pearl Heart fan so their dismissal was fine with me. Maybe they didn’t deserve to go this week, but they did not deserve to be in there until the end. They simply aren’t old enough or experienced enough to have a record contract at this point. Also, three-part harmony on guitar? Did they touch their guitars? I find it annoying when artists hold instruments but never play them. As for Sophie’s eye-rolling, that summed up a lot of the show for me. A lot of young, immature, amateur talent, none of whom are good enough or ready enough for such a big stage. I feel like I’m watching a high school talent show.
Lockfy: pretty sure I deleted the ep already. Are you sure she wasn’t just singing in a different key? My wife is a singer with a very good ear and she always calls out flat and sharp notes and she liked Shawn’s performance a lot with no mention of bum notes. Leah: it may be hard to define what country is, true; but even so, can anyone listening call Coffey’s sound country? Billy Ray even said Aretha would be approve of his “Proud Mary”—no doubt because it not only didn’t sound country, but he finished it with a distinctive soul ending. Yesterday I heard Darius Rucker’s (Hootie and the Blowfish) new country single, “Don’t Think I Don’t Think About It”, and it was decidedly, definitively country. The reason I bring this up is “Gone Country”, John Rich’s other show, where he chose the entirely country-free Julio Iglesias Jr. as the winner. To John Rich, minority singer + country = big $$$. So he put Coffey and Gabe on. Coffey doesn’t sound country, Gabe does. Coffey must go next!!!
I find the approval of Pearl Heart here a little disturbing, too. The best since Dixie Chicks? Puh-lease! As mentioned, they barely touched those guitars. The Dixie Chicks are impeccable singers, talented songwriters, and multi-instrumentalists. Pearl Heart will be very lucky to get anywhere, unless Jeffrey Steele is going to personally champion and develop them. Then I might give them a chance, because he seems very dedicated. And some here like Laura and Sophie? They’ve barely pulled off a dozen good notes between all the shows. When they get to original songs (assuming they do, like past seasons), what are they going to sing about? Their Facebook accounts? Running out of cell phone minutes? How much they love/hate each other? Jewel being a be-otch? Come on now…
I stopped watching this show because John Rich irritates me to no end. He ruined the show for me. And when do the contestants start doing original music?
Jeffrey, I, too, can tell when someone sounds “more country” or “less country” or “not country at all.” I just think that in this competiton the constant bickering and bar-setting about what’s “country enough” is hurting the show, and I believe it’s time to stop the harping.
Leah: you seem to have taken some kind of offense I didn’t intend. I’m sure you can tell what does or doesn’t sound country. And yes, I agree they shouldn’t bicker so much about what does or doesn’t sound country enough. My point is that Coffey doesn’t sound country at all, so why is he on the show? True, it’s not called “Country Star”, but the understanding is they’re trying to find a country singer. He isn’t one.
Okay – am I missing something here? They say they don’t sound country enough yet they make them sing POP songs. Why? So they have a reason to criticize them? Isn’t their lack of talent enough reason? There is not a single person in this competition who will “make it” because they don’t have the talent. I’m so sick of JR singing Taylor Swift’s praises because she is terrible – just has good marketing. I can almost guarantee Ashlee Hewitt will be there in the end because JR wants her to be (and he guaranteed her she will be on the show this week). He intends to market her as the next Taylor Swift. Good luck with that – eveyone I talk to is SICK of her style of talk/singing and her over the top stage performances so a cheap imitation of her will not fly. John Rich is a joke – talent – I think not. He got lucky with Gretchen Wilson and she tanked after one album. Rumor has it she even fired him as producer of her next album. Guess she knows when to abandon a sinking ship.
Confused:OK, thank God someone else hates Taylor Swift. But Ashlee Hewitt actually sings and her voice is appealing, so I’ll definitely take her over Taylor Swift. What’s totally nuts is I heard a DJ listing Taylor Swift’s achievements. Among others, she’s the only country artist—ever, all-time!—to write or co-write every track on her debut album which also went to # 1. How can we account for this crazy, f-ed up success? The world has gone crazy!!!
OK YEAH I DO THINK THE JUDGES ARE A LITTLE HARD SOMETIMES AND KINDA RE-NIGG ON WHAT THEY HAVE SD IN THE PAST BUT STILL WHAT SOPHIE DID WAS VERY DIRESPECTFUL AND SHE CANT EVEN SING GREAT LAURA CAN AND NOW SHE HAS TO PAY FOR WHAT A BAD PARTNER DID!! IF YOU ARE GIVEN AN OPPORTUNITY LIKE THAT YOU DONT DO THE PEOPLE WHO GAVE YOU THAT CHANCE LIKE THAT IF NONE OF THE JUDGES WOULD HAVE PICKED THEM EVERYONE WOULD BE LIKE WHO IS LAURA & SOPHIE SO I THINK SOPHIE IS IN THE WRONG TO BAD THEY COULDNT HAVE JUST SENT HER HOME!!
yes laurie and sophie are too young for all this. they need to go home finish school and quit crying and acting like a couple of little brats. i heard a story about the youngest of the two and how she is a snot nosed little brat.
I think Laura and Sophie are showed their true colors and are very immature they should of never made it as far as they did. THEY SUCKED!!!
I went to a Ronnie Millsap concert in Stafford Tx.and saw a 13 year old girl open his show. Her name was Natslie Rose. She was awsome.I could not believe her voice. She not only sang country songs of Patsy, Dolly,Tammy, and Loretta, she sang her own songs that she recorded.Look her up on Natalie Rose official .com.Listen to this girl sing on Utube at her performances.
