Nintendo DS may cause exhaustion, illness

Crosswords_lI have something to confess: I am a woman who can’t stop playing on her (pink!) Nintendo DS Lite. I know, I know, there are many female video gamers out there, but my obsession has gone so far that for the last week or so, I’ve been going to sleep later and later — just to stay up and play. (Is it any coincidence I can feel a cold coming on…just in time for the long weekend?)

The culprit: Nintendo’s new Crosswords DS game, which also comes with wordsearch and anagram challenges (the latter is perhaps the most addictive, thanks to the rush of satisfaction you get every time you solve one). Of course, I’ve been starting out on the easy levels on all three games, since writing on the touch screen takes a little getting used to (or at least that’s the excuse I’m going with), but I’m sure by this time next week I’ll be tackling the higher levels.

So tell me, Pop Watchers, am I alone in my addiction? Which DS games are keeping you up at night? And what other games should I check out? (Yes, that final question is a little scary, but at least I’ve copped to having a problem, right?)

I’m not ashamed to say I’m a grown man who enjoys playing his eight-year-old daughter’s “Bunnyz Petz” game.

I’m so glad it is not just me!! I love my DS!! I play Brain Age everyday to keep my record up and My Word Coach! I also have one I play that has UNO, SKIP-BO and UNO Falls on it that I am terribly addicted to playing until my eyes cross!!

Definitely Puzzle Quest for me.. it’s like crack. Bejewelled with skills & spells!!

Definitely agree with Puzzle Quest. Also, the Advance Wars series is incredibly addictive.

My current obsession which will probably last a good long while (or at least until the shiny new FF IV comes out) is Final Fantasy Tactics Advance 2: Grimiore of the Rift. Before that it was The World Ends With You. Yes…I’m a Japanese RPG fanatic.

I was playing Professor Layton non-stop for a couple of weeks until it got too repetitive. Now I’m waiting for Civilization DS to come out (July 7th!)…and I just saw they are coming out with Touchmaster 2 in Sept. (Touchmaster and Clubhouse Games are my two stand-bys that I play all of the time).

Recently bought “The World Ends with You” and have found it to be pretty addicting. It’s an action RPG that is “set within the modern world of the Shibuya district. You play as Neku Sakuraba who awakes to find himself an unwilling participant in a mysterious game constructed by a group known as the Reapers. Within a seven day time limit, Neku must complete missions assigned to him along with an eclectic group of people playing the Reaper’s game to prevent himself from being erased from existence.”
I also recommend the Phoenix Wright/Ace Attorney series. You get to solve all sorts of crimes and then present your evidence in court.
But if you like mini games, then I suggest getting Cooking Mama.

They say if you do something for like 20 days, you make a habit of it. Just put it down for a few days, and it becomes easier by the day not to play. But those things are addicting.

I love love love my DS! For the past month or so I was staying up late playing Brain Age, but now that Guitar Hero on Tour just came out I’ve found a new obsession. I might have carpal tunnel, but boy it is sure fun to play!

Tetris or MarioKart, ESPECIALLY on the wi-fi network. I can’t get enough!

I also have a pink DS Lite! You should try Word Jong. It’s very, very addictive! I also like Mahjong and the New York Times crossword puzzles on the DS.

I’m always “borrowing” my daughter’s DS to play either “Deal or No Deal” or “Mario Kart”. Now I’m going to have to buy “Crosswords” this weekend.

I’ve been playing FIFA 08 for a while and find it very challenging. I then got a PS2 but it doesn’t compare to the Nint DS Lite as you can play it anywhere. I’ve been playing Manager Mode with Manchester United as my team. I was in the English Cup final but didn’t win…I’m now onto season 2 with the same team, hopefully we can regroup…

I recently bought my DS to get through a 6 hour bus rides to and from Florida. Oh why did I do it! I can’t help it. I grew up with Mario and Luigi so it’s Super Mario Bros and Yoshi’s Island. I played Guitar Hero and am this close to getting the OnTour game. Sweet!!!
