When rock stars attack!

The Limewire blog has compiled a collection of YouTube clips that capture rock stars’ less-than-composed moments. But before you peep, be forewarned — angry rock stars are more likely than not to use unladylike language, so very few of these are SFW. A few choice vids: Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz gets embroiled in a mob scene that looks — and sounds — downright scary, while KISS’s Paul Stanley segues from a ballad (he ends it with a sincere "God bless you all!") to, "Hey schmuck! Take the laser out one more time and I’ll put it right up your ass! Promise." (The "promise" is my favorite part — as if anyone would question a threat posed by a man wearing Spandex and platform boots.)

One PG-13 exception here is Björk, captured below in an infamous 1996 incident at a Bangkok airport. She’s greeted by a British journalist, who tells the pop star, "Welcome to Bangkok," and Bjork’s reply is a left uppercut, followed by some hair pulling. (Björk’s record label later claimed that the reporter had been pestering her for days.)

DMX trying to kick a little dog and then screaming bloody blue murder at me for yelling “Hey!” at him. He probably didn’t understand. Silly me, I should have said “Yo!”

I witnessed exactly the opposite when I saw IRON MAIDEN at Madison Square Garden this past Sunday night. The power went out during the song “Powerslave” (what are the odds???). Instead of losing patience, the legendary heavy metal band kicked around a soccer ball and made the audience laugh until the problem was resolved. F*****g awesome show, boys!

I was once in the middle of a brawl during a Ben Folds Five concert. I got elbowed in the nose. It was scary. Everyone including the band was like “what the? at a Ben Folds Five show?”

At a Megadeth show a few years ago, some jackass was getting really rowdy and trying to pick fights in the front row. Dave Mustaine stopped the song, looked directly at the guy, and said, “If you do that again, I’ll kick your @ss.” Dave is a 4th degree blackbelt in Taekwondo, so needless to say, the guy didn’t act up again.

Paul Stanley had a rough nite in Dayton in 86.The first couple of times he tried to talk to the audiance he obviously was having some sort of problem. He wound up leaning on the mike stand saying “Leave the f***ing monitor ON” to the mixing board op.Later someone threw a lit cig into that forest of chest hair.A gaurd srang out of a trap door in the floor of the stage, jumped into the audiance, snatched the guy up and pulverised his face.Paul then said “Next time you go to McDonanlds you might be ordering up your friend who’s wearing his teeth for earrings about now.”

When I was in college, the first club concert I attended was the goth rock band Type O Negative. This was when hard core punk fused with goth. Anyway, some drunk as-sed jerk pushed me into a mash pit. I was very close to getting pummeled to death when luckily some guy saw that I was in disress and pulled me out of there.
I can’t blame Bjork for wanted to kick some reporters butt. Remember, she was stalked by some wackazoid who taped his own suicide.

Don’t fights always break out at shows? In my punkrock high school days in Madison, Wisconsin, we’d go see shows at the New Loft Teen center. Fights seemed to always break out then!
Most recently, I saw the Brian Jonestown Massacre play in DC (back in 2002). Anton was antagonizing the crowd (there were like 10 people at that Velvet Lounge show)and almost got in a fight with a couple of guys in the audience.
About a year later, Dig came out and I found out Newcombe had a rep for this sort of thing. Made me feel bad for yelling “Just play some music already!” at the guy. On a worse night, dude might have given me the old “bottle over the head” treatment.

Josh Homme calls out someone in the crowd at least once a show, it’s like a bit he has, always funny though. Also, who would be dumb enough to pick a fight with Henry Rollins?
