The best new action movie you can't see (yet)

If, like me, you are nuts for the great Thailand-based martial-arts movie star Tony Jaa, you’ll be thrilled to know that there’s now a trailer for his new, long-delayed Ong Bak 2. (The sequel, natch, to his 2003 epic Ong Bak: The Thai Warrior.) No release date yet here in the States, but just watch the trailer for Jaa’s cool, what-me-worry? face when attackers approach; for some mighty Muay Thai-style elbow strikes; and for Jaa’s ongoing obsession with elephants. (Check out the slo-mo as he runs across the back of a herd of pachyderms — no wires, folks!)

He’s great and I can’t wait for this movie to come to the states. But this movie looks like a prequel to the first film rather then a sequel.

Ken Tucker, you are officially back on my “good list” with this post. Ong Bak is one of the 5 best martial arts movies of all time (up there with Jet Li’s Fong Sai Yuk II, Bruce Lee’s Enter the Dragon, Jackie Chan’s Drunken Master II and Gordon Liu’s Master Killer), and I anxiously await the sequel.
I’m sure a lot of folks missed this one. Please netflix the first Ong Bak as it features great thrills, a family friendly plot and some amazing visuals that were done without nets or stuntmen.
For those who want to delve into martial arts movie fandom, I recommend the movies mentioned above, as well as the baby cart assasin movies, the Zatoichi series, Burning Paradise, and all those Sonny Chiba flicks.

I’m totally excited for this movie, but I am also confused abou the plot. I’m not sure if this takes place after the first one, or if he is supposed to become some sort of master of all martial arts as prophesized by…elephants? Who is the bloody kid at the beginning?

Did I or did I not just see the whole movie?

One of the greatest trailers ever. Who cares if its a prequel or sequel? I am ashamed to say that I had never heard of this magnificent maniac until I read Ken’s other blog but I’m hooked. Wow, what moves.

I hope you do read this blog. I know you gave a favorable review to the Season One release of the TV classic “The Fugitive” ( as you should have – it was excellent).
You are probably already aware of this, but the idiots at CBS/Paramount have really botched it with the release of the second season. Instead of paying royalties for the original music score/cues, they have completely wiped the original score and replaced it with new music written by some hacks. To make matters worse, they have even altered the end credits to make it look like these people were actually original creators of the show! Please review this, and get the word out on what CBS/Paramount especially are doing with the desecration of old TV shows released on DVD. What you remember is not necessarily what you’re going to get.

It’s actually not a prequel or sequel. It’s on it’s own story line. Ong bak 2 is a remake of a movie shot years ago by jaa and panna called, “Ai noom saraphad phid”. but it was never released. Another cool trailer to check out is for a movie called “chocolate”, directed by panna(ong bak). Or if u just can’t wait to see more wire free, mauy Thai a$@ kicking check out “born to fight”. It’s full of crazy stunts and awesome fights. It even has the steroid junky body guard from ong bak.
