What I always liked about the Krofft Bros.’ aesthetic is that they understood that they understood that when you’re working for an audience of children, you don’t *have* to knock yourself out making the special effects look “real.” The child watching becomes a partner in the process; his or her imagination smoothes out the jerky stop-motion animation of the dinosaurs in LAND OF THE LOST, or turns a foam-rubber puppet into a live, breathing dragon. Their work was evocative, rather than strictly descriptive – using very simple methods in ingenious ways to engage the imaginations of the audience.
