Marisa Tomei rocks and was totally cute last night. Anytime My Cousin Vinny is on, I have to watch it for her courtroom scene alone. I also loved her on Seinfeld, when she guest-starred as herself (and George’s potential love interest), but then socked him when she found out he was engaged.
Totally agree! Marisa Tomei is one of my favorite actresses of ALL TIME – remember back in the day when she was on A Different World, I remember being devastated when she was cut after the first season (look at her career now, take that, Lisa Bonet! haha) – she is so absolutely beautiful too (in a non-hollywood way) – LOVE HER!
“Rent” AND Marisa Tomei in the same Popwatch entry? It just doesn’t get any better (at least if you’re me).
The “Rent” reunion was great, but what was up with Ms. Tomei (who was cute bouncing in her seat), Gabriel Byrne, and Mary-Louise Parker all reading their cue cards like they were bored beyond all belief? It’s the Tony’s! The happiest awards ceremony of the year! Cheer up!
It’s not as good as “Everybody Has Aids” from “Lease,” but I guess this’ll do.
I’m sorry but, really?? This is what you post from everything that happened last night? I mean, I like Rent fine, but come on. Patti LuPone’s EPIC performance will go down in Tonys/Broadway history. (LuPWN!!)
Richard Griffiths had the best ad-lib of the night. And Whoopi was ANNOYING – bring back Hugh Jackman, dangit! And sorry, but I think Patti LuPone didn’t sound her best last night.
Was that Tamyra Gray on the table during the current cast performance?
gabriel byrne was miserable. how many times is Raul Esparza gonna get robbed of a tony award? i mean seriously, its embarrassing at this point… any congrats to lupone who gave the best speech (aside from mark rylance)… whoopi was eh. did xanadu perform at the tony’s or did i miss it?
Will there be more Tony coverage? I realize live-blogging the Tony’s might not be that popular, but maybe even a little PW analysis? Xanadu did have a performance. Marissa was super-cute.
I absolutely LOVE Rent! I’m sorry that I was never able to see it on Broadway. That clip gave me the chills!

Mandi, I loved Marisa’s reaction, too.
Marisa being dropped from ” A different World” has nothing to do with Lisa Bonet. Bill Cosby and the rest of the production crew were the ones to blame for that. I remember when Lisa Bonet was the one to help her and other cast members during that time period. So back too ya!
Aw…that just made me cry. And I love the cheer that went up when Idina Menzel started talking! She’s amazing.
Oh I forgot a couple of things:
1. Yes, Marisa Tomei was so cute! I probably would have been bouncing as well.
2. Elizabeth, I am almost positive that wasn’t Tanyra Gray. You’re talking about the girl with the really short hair right?
3. I can’t wait for Idina Menzel and Taye Diggs to start having babies.
The thing that made me like her was the first 3 minutes of Before the Devil Knows You’re Dead.
I LOVED Whoopi! I never watch the Tony’s but I tuned in because I heard Whoopi was hosting the show. She really made it enjoyable.
Okay, I totally was not expecting to cry at that. that damn song always gets me.
That was beautiful. During the entire video I had a huge smile and tears in my eyes. But where was Jesse L. Martin?
Seriously, I could listen to that song 525,600 times and be happy.. or “light my candle” or “over the moon” or anything else on the soundtrack. But, why wasn’t the audience up on its feet? Why were they not cheering, with a standing O? Totally would have been.
Oh, and I freakin’ love Marisa Tomei. I could watch her bounce and cheer anytime for anything.

That was adorable–I was jumping up and down a little too. Taye Diggs was extra adorable that night, but where was Jesse L. Martin? Wasn’t he an original cast member?
Just FYI – it WAS Tamyra Gray – the cast that sang “La Vie Boheme” is the current Broadway cast, which Tamyra is currently in.
And Jesse WAS an original cast member, but wasn’t there because of a scheduling conflict…
