What's your keychain?

Call it blog fatigue (Slezak will be back from vacation on Monday!), but yes, I’m actually writing this post. I always wanted to include this question, What’s your keychain?, in those Pop Culture Personality Tests I used to do for EW’s Spotlight section. I mean, we all have keychains, and I think you can tell something about a person from his or hers: Is it practical — a little flashlight, a pocketknife? Or fun — a silver etching of former Penn State linebacker Paul Posluszny? (My mother had it made for me a few years ago, in the Nittany Mall, as a Christmas present. I liked to watch him smack the crap out of people. See the 2005 clip below.)

Your turn.

I have almost as many keychains on the keyring as actual keys. There’s a pewter hockey glove, a Pez monkey that my boyfriend gave me, my name (a gift from my mom) and a bull with Espana written across it (a souvenir from my trip).

A hot pink bottle opener that my colleague brought me from Poland,
a gold tag with my name in Hawaiian that my best friend brought me from her honeymoon,
pepper spray (because I live in Chicago),
a little flashlight (handed out in my usually-safe neighborhood a year ago when several attacks happened),
an old keytag with my apartment number from last year (my old roommate/best friend moved to L.A. when our lease was up, so this reminds me of him),
key cards for Hollywood Video, Borders, PetSmart, and Dominicks.

I am keychain-less. Which makes sense, I’m rather concise and neat.

My key chain is a silver shoe from Kate Spade.

I try to keep my keys simple. My keychain is an L with a leprechaun peaking around the front that a friend brought back for me from Ireland. Another friend once asked what was on the L. A leprechaun, I told him. He said, so that’s what the L stands for, then. I was like, sure, I suppose that could be it.

Mandi: I heart Paul Posluszny! It is almost as fun saying his last name as it is watching him smack people around. Where is the picture of your keychain?!? I can’t believe they could make that at the Nittany Mall….

I have 4 keychain rings on a carribeaner. Ring 1 has my Harry Potter tassel from the book 7 midnight release party and a portable can opener. Ring 2 has my rarely-used keys. Ring 3 has my work keys. Ring 4 has the home keys, and also has my first initial (S), along with a non-working gas pay-at-the-pump tag, and my keycards for the gym, grocery store, et.c.. On the carribeaner also I have one of those swirly plastic things that you can use to loop the keys onto your arm.
Unfortunately my father told me once when I was little that you could tell how important someone was based on the size of their keychain, and I (being 5) believed him.

I have a flash drive and three keychains that symbolize my three favorite things: Walt Disney World (a spinning chain with Mickey on one side and Pluto on the other); motorcycles (a Harley keychain); and knitting (a tiny ball of yarn).

  • cimagato

A mini version of my library card. That way, I never leave home without it.

  • Snarf

Mine’s just a plain circle with an electronic fob that randomly sets off store alarms. Good times!

  • Darmini

A little wooden guitar from someone promoting their art exhibition (I never went). A plastic marble thingy from Kew Gardens in England. A valentine themed keyring from Swatch watch with a man giving a woman flowers. I love Swatch!

  • Stef

Oh, but I do also collect keychains. I have strung them all together and have a chain over 10 feet long.

  • Elizabeth

Connected to my leather strap, connected to a carribeaner, are my 5 keys and a Matchbox Twenty Exile on Mainstreet 2008 Tour keychain. My sisters and I all got them when we went to see them in February. Exactly how ladies in their late 20s, early 30s should spend their money!

Let’s see: On the home key ring is the photon flashlight, key cards for the suppermarkets and the mini atm card. The car ring my Hard Rock Cafe bottle opener and the key for the club (I don’t even know if I still have it, since it was for my old car!) I have other keychains decorating my place (sandal from Trindad, bottle of sand from Florida).

  • Katie Kruger

I’ve got three Harry Potter lego men on my key ring. Original Harry, Tri Wizard Tournament Harry, and Hermione. I tried to find a Ron but they were always sold out.

  • BrandonK

I change my keychains based on the season. I bought 3 metal and enamel ones from Coach a few years ago. Snowflakes for winter, an orange for spring and summer, and a green apple for fall.

Please be healthy next year, please be healthy next year, please be healthy next year…

I don’t use any novelty keychains. My keyring is an S-shaped carabiner clip.
My purse does have 3 charms on it though. I have a maneki-neko charm, a Motorola pink jewel charm, and a miniature replica of my retainer charm.

  • aaa

I have a flashlight in the shape of a little rubber duckie that quacks when you turn the light on.

  • Sarah

My keychains are hockey crazy. I cheer for the Calgary Flames and have three different ones, one is the Flames logo in rubber with my name on the bottom, the second one is a Flames bottle opener and the third one is round with a spinning Flames logo in the middle. Can you tell I’m from Canada?

  • tesla

I am literally 5 minutes away from the Nittany Mall as I write…
Anyway, I have a metal spirit bear keychain for my keys and a gryffindor crest hanging on my bag (it’s too big to actually use for keys)

  • Becca

i have a pic of me, two of my uncles, & 3 of my little cousins at six flags fiesta texas & one of those little rectangle ones w/ funny sayings that says “i live in my own little world, but its okay, they know me here”

  • Sadie

Mine is a Smathers & Branson green and pink plaid. Love it; reminds me of the ultra preppy days in the 80s.

  • Robert

I have a Beck’s bottle opener that I pilfered from a bar many years ago.

  • Carli

Mine’s some type of bottle opener shaped like a shark…my brother used to drive truck for some beer company; it was free.

  • bb

Mini Leatherman and a flash drive

  • Zaphod Beeblebrox

I used to have a boondoggle that my sister made me, but it fell off. Now I just have my Wegman’s Shoppers Club Card and my Tops Bonus Card on there.
Mandi, Paul Posluszny’s the man! I was so happy when he went from one favorite team (Penn State – I’m an alumnus) to the other (Buffalo Bills – I’m from Western New York).
