It just occurred to me that on Saturday night, I’ll be seeing Duran Duran in concert for the fifth time. I never set out to be a Durannie, but I’m thinking this might make me one. I can thank my friend Sheila, who’s seen the band more than 20 times over the years (including a few TV tapings which, if included, actually brings my total to six), and always orders two tickets. She remembers the date of her first Duran Duran show — June 22, 1987 — because she still has the stub: "I was 14. I went with two girlfriends. My friend Tai’s mom waited in the car in the parking lot, and when we got back, she said, ‘Okay, bra check!’ and made us all show a strap so she knew we didn’t throw ‘em onstage."
What act have you seen most often in concert? My friend Robb has enjoyed the Go-Gos 25 times, while I’ve somehow managed to catch the band Flickerstick, winner of arguably the best reality show ever, VH1’s Bands on the Run, nine times.
Your turn.

Dave Mathews Band, more times then I can count
Tim McGraw, 4 times
I don’t think I’ve seen any act more than twice…if I have, it would have been Jimmy Buffett.
I am about to see REM for the 8th time, spread out over about 15 years.
I have seen Billy Joel in concert 4 times [1989's Storm Front at age 17; The River of Dreams, Billy Joel Tour 1998 and Billy Joel and Elton John's Face2Face Tour] and he was fantastic each and every time. However, the one time I rode the subway home and there was a drunk girl participating in a slurred one-woman singalong of “Piano Man” as I feared for my life. I guess I would do anything for William Martin Joel [except ride in a car driven by him].
Barenaked Ladies, five times–I’m sure to add to that in the future! Matchbox Twenty/20, four times. DMB, three times.
I’ve seen YES five times and RUSH four times and it looks like I’ll be seeing both of them again this summer!
I’ve seen Hanson nine times (although I know there are people who have seen concerts in the hundreds… eep.), and there’s a three-way tie of people I’ve seen three times: Paul McCartney, Indigo Girls and BoDeans.
They Might Be Giants, four or five times. And they’ve been amazing every single time.
I’d definitely see Rufus Wainwright again, and I’ll probably be seeing Vampire Weekend again this summer.
i’ve seen Pedro the Lion (or David Bazan solo) about 5 times.
I listened to Duran Duran totally out of the blue on my way to work this morning. Weird.
Eric F – I’m totally jealous!! I’m hoping to have my virgin Rush show on 06/30.
I’ve seen Tool three times and Primus three times. That’s it.
I saw Huey Lewis & The News everytime they came to Denver in the 80’s which amounted to 5 concerts. I saw 2 of the multi-night Fore tour. The Eagles, Alan Jackson, and Garth Brooks are tied for second with 3 times each.
Kathleen, July 16th at Jones Beach, Long Island for me!
I’ve seen Harry Connick, Jr. perform 47 times.
I’ve also seen the fabulous NOLA funk/rock/brass band, Bonerama, perform 30 times.
I’ve seen DMB about 5 times, Elton John 4 times, plus John Mayer, Keith Urban, U2, Better than Ezra, and a few others.
Good to see other Rush fans here–I’ve seen them 4 times now, all with my dad, who has probably seen them over 15 times. I have seen Staind 6 times (mostly at festivals), and the Clarks (Pittsburgh, PA, check em out!) 10 or 12 times–twice a summer, at least, it’s almost a law in the Ohio Valley.
I’ve seen TX musician Bob Schneider somewhere around 12 times (most shows were seen out of TX). Radiohead, 4. Live, 4. DMB, 4. U2, 3. The Goo Goo Dolls, 3 times, although never just for them they’ve been the unfortunate opening act.
I’ve seen The Hold Steady 3 times, and probably a couple more once they come around again.
Jars of Clay is my favorite band, so I’ve seen them the most — five times, once every year in the last 5 years. Their yearly California leg of the tour coincides with my yearly US visits.
I’ve seen Weezer 3 times and I plan on adding to that with their coming tour.
I’ve seen Depeche Mode at least a dozen times, and have met them twice. They are so incredibly brilliant live!
Oh geez, I’m embarassed to say…I’ve seen the Monkees in their various incarnations about 5 times. And Peter Tork and Davy Jones solo once each. I’ve never seen *anyone* else more than once, though I’m hoping to score tickets to the upcoming CSN concert.
Seen Nickel Creek three times – and the tally would be higher if they were still together. FANTASTIC performers…
Soul Coughing – 22 times before they broke up. And I’ve seen Mike Doughty solo 5 or 6 times since.
I’ve seen They Might Be Giants oh… between 25 and 30 times and hope that number keeps growing. They are a stellar band — in any format.
Michael Buble…
Aerosmith – 5 times (it’s my mom’s favorite band and there’s nothing quite like rocking out with your mother)
Kings of Leon – 5 times
Wilco – 5 times
Drive-by Truckers – 4 times
3 times: The Strokes, The White Stripes, Gogol Bordello, Flogging Molly, The Decemberists, Clap Your Hands Say Yeah, G. Love, M.I.A.
The only band I’ve seen multiple times is my favorite band Collective Soul. I’ve seen them 4 times.
the Who 5 times, the monkees 5 times, Def Lep 7 times most only 2 times, ( I have been to over 112 concerts and keep all my stubs and the reviews too)
U2 – at least once on every tour since Zoo TV Outside broadcast, followed by Barenaked Ladies, whom I’ve seen 4 times
Dave Matthews Band – 7 Times
OK, Mandi, the real question is what would Tai’s mom have done if one or all of the girls had come back without a bra? Send them back inside to collect the item?
