Trailer Blazer: 'He's Just Not That Into You'

Let me start right up top by saying this ain’t my kind of movie. My kind of movie — since you asked — usually features at least one, but preferably all three of the following things: 1) Explosions, 2) Lasers, 3) Gratuitous nudity. I’m a simple man, I like simple pleasures. (When my good PopWatch buddy Wook Kim expressed shock at the fact that I watched every episode of Sex and the City, I explained to him that, aside from being a well-written show, Kim Catrall could be counted on to drop her haute trou at least four times a season. Which was enough for me.)

So, imagine my shock at discovering, after watching the following trailer, that I’d probably go see this fall’s He’s Just Not That Into You.

Maybe it’s Big Love’s Ginnifer Goodwin — who looks like a darling cross between Cameron Diaz and Cindy Williams — that’s giving me hope. There’s an optimism in her face, a lack of having been beaten down by other crappier romantic comedies (yes, we’re talking to you, Kate Hudson). And the rest of the cast looks stellar: Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Connelly, her brother Kevin (okay, I know he’s not her brother, their last names are spelled differently… duh), Scarlett Johansson, Ben Affleck, Justin Long, Drew Barrymore, and Jennifer Aniston.

But I think it’s the way the trailer relaxes into itself. It’s not a hard sell. There are no pratfalls, no slapstick; the jokes are smart but not aggressively so. It feels like there’s substance to He’s Just Not That Into You. Which is refreshing, especially for a rom-com. What about you? Are you into He’s Just Not That Into You?

As much as I thought this would be horrible, the cast has me sold. Unlike Mr. Bernadin, I will not EVER see SATC. But this I will see…once it comes out on dvd.

Who is that singing on the voicemail at the end?

  • Todd

haha the end had me in fits

  • Cece

To be honest: Not so much at first. But the guy singing the voicemail message did it for me. And let’s not count out Ginnifer Goodwin, who is one of my three favorite wives Big Love. (She’s actully my fave, but don’t tell anyone.)

  • Seamus

    That’s Justin Long singing.

  • Gretchen Weiners

I think it looks pretty good! Reminds me a bit of Love Actually with all those different story lines.

  • Katy

Agreed, no contrivances or unnecessary hamminess. And helllooooo Ben Affleck!

  • Anonymous

The cast is really amazing, so I can’t wait to see it. And I’m SO glad to see Ben Affleck acting again!!

  • Nee Nee

Yep, I’m totally gonna see that. I can’t think of a woman who wouldn’t want to see it. It looks like a movie that may not be the typical romcom. Looks like a great cast. I think I even spotted Ricky from My So Called Life in there.

  • Amy

    Yup, totally gonna see this.

  • Lovely

I was all for it, until I saw Ben Affleck…:/

  • Kristen

I usually never watch a movie starring Ben Affleck or Jennifer Aniston- so to have both in one movie would put it on the reject bin for me. BUT, I saw Wilson Cruz from My So-Called Life..so..I might at least rent it!

  • Raven_Moon

It might be good. It would be great to see a smart & funny romantic comedy. It’s been a while.

  • Sina

Hate Jen Aniston so I’ll skip it. She needs to learn how to act. She keeps doing “Rachel” in all her movies.

  • Elizabeth

Looks like a fun cast and a different idea for a movie (what – Hollywood -are your feeling OK??), so yep, I’ll give it a whirl.

  • eventgal

Will see it solely for the fact that it was filmed in my hometown Baltimore! That, and Ricky Vasquez.

  • Dan

    that looks great. yes.

  • Ruby

Will go see it simply because I love Ginnifer Goodwin. Every time that girl smiles she lights up a room!

  • fx

I dont like Ms. Goodwin, I LOVE HER!!! Add a whole mess of other great looking women (for the guys) a bunch of handsome fellows to spice up the chick flick, how could this fail!!!????

  • Nose

Sigh…Bradley Cooper. That smile gets me every time. I usually steer clear of the typical Hollywood “rom-coms”, but this one looks reasonably funny. Plus, Bradley Cooper.

  • Julie

Hate Jennifer Aniston, but I’m so watching this for Justin Long!

I am surely watching this with my friends all because of Jennifer Aniston. Another box office hit and my my! the girl can act! Love her

  • Jen

I’m with your Marc, I’m all about the action movies, and not a fan of predictable rom-com. However, I think “He’s not that into you” will stay true to the book (yes, I read it…) and tell it how it is and not how most women wish it was. I hope it empowers women to start putting themselves first and let go of the need, almost compulsion of having a man in her life… but hey, a girl can dream can’t she? ;)

  • mary

i will definitely be seeing this movie out of respect for the book, which set me free! i hope they do the book justice.

  • carly

Oh God no, this looks like a paid advertisement for the film and like Aniston flaks wrote most of the comments (“my my the girl can act” — oh give me a break).

  • wend

No I’m not going to see this movie i read through the book i dont agree with much of what this movie is about i found the book insulting its like hes saying that woman aren’t intelligent enough to read social ques if you dont have a clue when someone doesn’t like you then your socially retarded i dont need some guy telling me that hes not in to you he doesn’t speak for the rest of the world the previews iv seen for this movie look stupid I’m sorry a movie with drew barrymore and scarlet johansen where guys just aren’t in to them yeah thats believable I’m just annoyed by the hole concept of the book and movie
