Slezak: Mandi, I just came out of the Idol Cave to discover that ABC canceled Women’s Murder Club (with Angie Harmon, left) this week. How am I supposed to go on?
Slezak: Maybe it wasn’t a hit in America, but it was a hit in my home. I am distraught. (Seriously!)
Mandi: I’d tell you to take comfort in the best-when-bare arms of Moonlight’s Alex O’Loughlin (right), but that show got s—canned, too.
Mandi: If Mick and Beth don’t get it on in Friday night’s season finale, you will see me distraught. Why did I let myself get sucked in? (Pun not intended. But enjoyed!)
Mandi: By the way, I sat through the entire season of October Road, too. Now we’ll never know who that kid’s father is. And worse, Geoff Stults has no reason to leave me voicemails offering to dance shirtless in my office. Just cruel.
Slezak: What is wrong with this country?
Slezak: And if the Moonlight producers didn’t shoot a little wah-chicka-wah-wah in anticipation of potential cancellation, what is wrong with THEM?
Slezak: Clearly, this was not a good week for middling programming that’s very fun to watch with the brain shut off.
Slezak: I’m going to go find a mojito… you in?
Mandi: Can’t. I’ve got to catch up on seven seasons of According to Jim.
Which cancellations are you mourning? After the jump, we list the major casualties for quick and easy reference.
ABC: Men in Trees, Women’s Murder Club, October Road, Miss Guided, Carpoolers

I really liked Aliens in America- a family unit who were mostly nice to each other & funny situations. The Justin/Raja interplay was great as was the Tolchuck/Raja interplay. I will miss this show!
just imagine this scenario:
a major studio releases a 12 hour movie. the studio is urging you to invest an entire day watching their movie, promising that you will not be disappointed. they do, however, warn you that the last two hours of the movie were destroyed in a fire so the film is missing it’s entire ending!
question: would you go see it? would anyone go see it?
Thanks EW. I had been trying to piece-meal a list like this together from reading articles about the upfronts. *Quick tear for Moonlight*
LOL. I didn’t like any of these shows. (and yes, I watched at least one episode of every single one of them)Sounds like the networks made a good call. The ones that should be staying (Chuck, Gossip Girl, Sarah Connor) are.
(actually, Back to You wasn’t that bad. That Jonah Hill-ish news director was funny.
I really enjoyed MissGuided and I think it was a great vehicle for Judy Greer. Alas.
Let me first say that EW is my favorite mag & this website is the absolute best. OK – let me take a deep breath and scream “Men in Trees”??????!!! This is a quality, entertaining show with great characters and acting. Come on!!! But all the reality garbage stays???
i am totally disgusted by the networks. and yes – at the very least – they should ALWAYS give shows a couple hours to wrap up their story lines. it should be the LAW!
ps: my personal heartbreak was the cancellation of “invasion” from a couple seasons back. i’m still haunted by that show.
As my husband shouted, “Idiots!” when we discoverd WoMuCl was cancelled, I also wondered, “What is wrong with this country?” (Forget Barack and Hillary-this is importatnt!) It was good to start with, but really got better toward the end of the season. Hubby is still crying over Journeyman. And I still can’t forgive the CW and ASP for the entire Gilmore Girls debacle. (I know–it’s been a year) Maybe we should take up stamp collecting or read more.
I’m not a fan of new laws. We have enough, but I like the idea of a law making sure shows spend a few hours wrapping up. Let’s get our representatives on it it now. Great idea! Also, the movie analogy was funny.
I will miss “Moonlight”…a lot.
Journeyman was woefully underrated and underwatched.
I’m heartbroken over “Moonlight.” Seriously. I can’t believe they canned it. And they so better get some vamp-lovin’ going on in the finale!
I will miss:
Men in Trees (I wanted her with Cash! And poor Annie!)
Women’s Murder Club (somewhat interesting)
October Road (seriously, WHO WAS THE DAD?)
Miss Guided (Judy Greer got canned?? NOOOO! CRUEL WORLD CRUEL WORLD!)
Moonlight (this is such a travesty, it’s unreal)
Journeyman (Most realistic look at a paper i’ve seen yet, and I liked that British dude)
WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU NETWORK PEOPLE??? Give a show a chance!!
oh october road what about thee will i miss the most? The characters, the crazy plot twists, tom berenger, the foliage? only time will tell
Aliens in America and Men in Trees.
AiA was hysterical and smart. A gem no one discovered.
Men In Trees was cotton candy TV. Not exactly healthy but oh so good.
Miss Guided – what a shame….it was really cute.
At least, WMC ended all tidy. Gerald McRainney who she sorta-kinda liked when she wasn’t hating him might be in trouble. HOWEVER there is love, vacations to SE Asia, and the capture of the haunting serial killer. Enough for me. Ms. Harmon-Seahorn can get another pilot to whisper-growl in.
Men In Trees, Womens Murder Club, October Road, Shark and Canterbury’s Law – all shows I really enjoyed. Men In Trees and October Road were absolute favorites. October Road never will have a resolution and the character development was deepening with each subsequent show. I really wanted to know how some of that was going to be resolved. I can assure you that I will be watching much less TV next year. Much of what is being added sounds completely uninteresting to me, so guess I’ll have to start increasing my book budget!
I was really getting into Canterbury’s Law and Women’s Murder Club. They could get rid of a few of the CSI’s and keep these two shows (i know neither show airs on CBS)…TV is getting less and less interesting. Thank GOD for LOST!
Women’s Murder Club – Just when we were getting so close.
Men in Trees – Now where am I going to get my Alaska fix. I can’t actually go there. Too cold.
They better come up with something good to replace October Road!!!! If by some chance the makers decided to put more episodes of it on the internet, I would really like to know who the dad is (hint, hint). And I really wanted to see what was going to happen with the bar girl and the hot guy. Why, why, why are they canceling it? I’m also a little disappointed about Journeyman. It had a slow start, but got really interesting.
It’s hard to want to take on a new series when they all seem to get cancelled. We’ve had horrible luck over the last two years: The Black Donnellys, Moonlight, Driven, New Amsterdam, Miss Guided, the Knights of Prosperity, Justice, (embarrassingly) Pirate Master, and I’m sure there are many more I can’t think of at this time.
I sure am going to miss Mick though…as a a lone tear rolls down my cheek.
Funny thing, Friday Night Lights went up against both those shows, and lost in ratings against both, and was still picked up for a third season. What’s up with that?
Im going to miss Men in Trees and Journeyman. Now we’ll never know why he’s was moving through time! Ugh! I did catch a few episodes of Women’s Murder Club and I did like what I saw. Shame on network executives!!!!
Carpoolers. It was in a lane of its own.
I’m devastated that Moonlight’s been cancelled!!
I’m so mad they cancelled October Road. Okay, it wasn’t THE best show on tv. But there were so many plot developments going on that are completely unresolved. Ugggh I just want to know who Sam’s dad is!!!!!!!
Can we get a few short episodes on the website? Or maybe post an interview with the director/producers/writers/cast members where they tie up loose ends. Clearly the show did have some fans. Don’t screw us over ABC.
And Moonlight was really good. At least it was interesting. Why cancel that CBS, you don’t have many good shows.
At least Scrubs was picked up after being dropped.
I actually like Journeyman. It wasn’t great, but it was better than a lot of stuff on TV.
Miss Guided was bad (Judy Greer deserves better!)
I actually had pretty good luck this year. I picked Chuck and Pushing Daisies and both are returning, so I’m happy. The funny this is that I’ll be in China next year so I wouldn’t see the second seasons. How sad …
Awww…Carpoolers is gone, too? Darn. That was a show I watched On Demand regularly.
I hate ABC!!! I’m going to be mourning Men in Trees and October Road. Too many unfinished story lines! What’s going to happen to Patrick and Annie???
I really thought there was hope for Women’s Murder Club when ABC moved it to Tuesday. I can’t believe they canceled it after it did poorly on Friday night – the same time everything does poorly. Plus they didn’t have any of the episodes online for people who were interested and wanted to keep up after the pilot but couldn’t watch on Friday night. The show was really good – much better writing than CSI and CSI:Miami. I have to say I am deeply disappointed in ABC and will NOT watch whatever they replace WMC with.
