How well do you know your '80s lyrics?

Rickspringfield_lStraight up now tell me: Are you an ’80s music addict? Then come go with me by clicking here and taking a totally rad ’80s lyrics quiz. (Thanks to my friend Bonnie for sending it to me; that’s a half-hour of my life I won’t be getting back!) I scored a better-than-expected 123.5, but still can’t believe I missed No. 91. (D’oh!) And even after finishing the quiz and getting the answer key, I still needed Google’s help to determine the song origins of Nos. 38 and 71.

Once you’ve completed your test (yes, that Rick Springfield photo to the left might be a clue to one of the answers), post your score in the comments section below, and share with your fellow PopWatchers which questions stumped you the most. Like a Pointer Sister, I’m so excited to hear how you did!

I got a 136. So, when will EW be calling to offer me my well-deserved job for being so full of pop culture knowledge? I’m coming for you, Slezak!

  • Leo

Bah, 87. There were several that were “almost” right though. Come on Slezak, you don’t know sledgehammer?

  • Dominique L.

A measley 35.8, but to be fair I was born in 1986. Trying my luck at the 90s now, hopefully I’ll do better…

  • mcbridefan

    I got a 58.2

  • Amanda

    158!!!!
that darned olivia newton john one stumped me. grrr.

  • diggity

I only got a 92 and I am an 80s DJ. Not good! But I got 10 points for the Hotel California song!

44…I am so disappointed in myself…

  • Nancy

66.5. Took it quickly, didn’t go back and check any answers. After looking at the answers, I knew most of them, but couldn’t place the song without the melody!

  • Lynny

I am sort of disappointed in myself- 117. There were so many that seemed really obvious, but I just couldn’t place them. Oh well, I got all the BIG pointers.

  • Amy

47, although I think I am at a bit of a disadvantage, having been born in 1988. And a couple were only slightly wrong.

  • Nicole

i got a 54.5 but i was born in 1987. and slezak i was totally kicking myself for not knowing 91 either! i also don’t think it’s fair that spelling counts boooo

number 25 is wrong I think…there are two words there

  • stephanie

I only got a 34 but in my defense I was born in Dec ‘89 and I mostly listen to musicals

  • pk

143! Apparently that’s considered doing ’scarily well’. To be fair, I was 12 in 1984 and currently listen to XM ’80s on 8 at every opportunity. Only missed a few – two for spelling errors! argh! – but notably I was stumped by the Olivia Newton-John one and the Roxette (never was much of a fan). Thanks for the link!

  • Katie

I got 100. There were a bunch I should have gotten but couldn’t get the tune in my head…so frustrating! I spelled #83 wrong and apparently missed a big bonus for that…bummer.

  • chellrene

I got an 82. Several of them I knew, but couldn’t come up with the right words for that part of the lyric.

  • jill

88.5, not as good as it should have been, but I am proud of the things that I missed!

  • MJMN

    71. I’m mad that I spelled Jessie of Jessie’s Girl wrong!

  • Amy

I got an 86.5. Some of the ones I missed, I knew the songs but didn’t know what the words were because the singer mumbled! LOL

  • Ibis1996

I got a 108.5, but, like others have said, it’s because the singers mumbled. Also, I only went through it once. I forgot to go back and take a second stab at the ones I left blank the first time.

  • Anonymous

I only got 40, but I took it fast, and didn’t go back. I did get some bonus points for answering some of them right, that are apparently missed alot.

  • dnnlnn85

That was a bad idea; now I feel like a complete ass. 85 points.

  • NikkiB

I only scored 70. Sad because I grew up in the ’80s.

  • 80’s are my life

At least, according to this quiz. I got a 153 my first try – I’m pretty impressed with myself! Is there a way to turn this talent of knowing useless trivia into a career? I got #55 when it said no one ever gets it. Is it sad that little comment made me giddy? And, yes, I’m mad about “Jesse” vs. “Jessie” also!

  • jeff

    105. I guess I never knew that it was “think of the TENDER THINGS

  • adam807

    132.5! I’m totally awesome.

  • Deitri

    142.5 I watched a lot of MTV as a kid. I’m actually disappointed I didn’t score higher.

  • Elizabeth

    103.5 – I’m a dork.

  • aaa

118.5 – kinda disappointed in myself. And to ‘jeff’ — I always thought it was ‘better things’.
