I’m not sure how to feel about this clip. It provokes a bouillabaisse of emotions: comfort, nostalgia, sadness, laughter, astonishment. I’m torn between giddily running around the office looking for someone to show this to and looking for someone to give me a hug.
The dudes (or dudettes) behind this went so far as to both multi-track Kermit’s vocals to match the original Elliott Smith version and shoot this in a way that partially mirrors the scene in The Royal Tenenbaums that so memorably used "Needle in the Hay."

I want to cry…but kind of laugh..but mostly cry.
1% show everyone, 99% need a hug. Oh Kermie, when will you smile again? Excellent sound and I’m amazed how well they got the arms to function, that can’t have been easy. cool find!
I think what I’m most amazed at is how freakin awesome that song still sounds even when sung Kermit the Frog style.
This is nowhere near as bad (and by bad, I mean sicklingly and inapprorpately hilarious and awesome) as Sad Kermit’s take on Nine Inch Nails’ “Hurt.” Search for that, watch it, and try to not want a hug after that.
I second the comment that this is *nothing* compared to Sad Kermit doing NIN.
Just go to sadkermit.com to watch both videos and download the extra tracks they’ve recorded with Kermit including covers of “Creep” by Radiohead and “Twilight” by Elliott Smith
If you look at Kermit over the years you will see he has always been kind of scary http://www.starvsstar.tv/kermit-evil.html
Wow, I cry during “It’s Not Easy Being Green” and you show me that? I need a hug, 3 pounds of chocolate and a gross of prozac.
I want to slap and hug the geniuses who make the sadkermit videos. Jim Henson must be smiling in heaven. Kermie rocks…
im taierd.
Yeah I agree, I thought It’s not Easy being Green was a bit depressing, but this is just…wow.
Sad Kermit rules…check out his myspace, but his cover of HURT is so much better
I’m ambivalent about Sad Kermit…half of me wants to congratulate the creators on a great (and well-executed) concept, the other half wants to slap them upside the head for messing with my happy Muppet memories.
Wow. I’m a long time fan of E. Smith and the original version (live in his hometown of Portland, OR and we were the same age) and I am strangely moved by this. And laughing. And incredulous. Thanks, EW.
