Am I the first to comment?? YIPPEE!! I LOVE YOU DAVE KARGER! Are you single?? Finally!!! Someone who knows what they are talking about. I LOVE YOU! David A. has the better voice and I do get him!! HE belongs in the finale. Hands down. And Slezak?? You backpeddled a little? You said you may not be a fan but David A is consistently good?? And you enjoy listening to him sing? Michael, could not agree with you more–on nearly everything you said. I do wish JC wasn’t defeated by this and would pull it out this week. I dislike the Bluejeans song he sang and when I heard him sing it, didn’t like it any more. But now his version is nonstop rolling around in my head-bizarre. Archie has a beautiful voice but completely forgetable. DC has my vote for the winner. Syesah has shown best improvement. If this were ANTM, she’d be a shoe-in for winner. (Come to think of it, she’s prettier and more poised than any of the final few on ANTM this season–maybe after she’s kicked off she could stroll over there and win something.)
I’m so ready for David A to go home. I was over him the first week of the TOP 24. Cook/Castro final 2….awesome! Ideal top 3 would have been Cook, Johns, Smithson…I’m sorry, America just got it wrong.
I love waking up to new Idolatry…especially when last night I had a dream and the incredible and sexy Dave Karger was the main attraction! In my dream I confessed to Dave that he was in the first episode of Idolatry I had seen and that since then I couldn’t stop thinking of him. The dream was just us talking and me getting lost in your gorgeous eyes.

Slezak, I’m with you about Little David. I always get the impression that if you panned the camera to his parents while he’s singing, they would be mouthing the words and making all the same motions like Amy Poehler in Mean Girls. He just seems so mechanical. But, I think we’d all better prepare ourselves for the inevitable David-David showdown.
Slezak, you disappointed me by backtracking on David A. Shame shame. Although you redeem yourself a little with the whole Cook/Castro finale idea.
I am just happy that the Idolatry videos are getting longer each week. By finals week, we will be getting two 1/2 hour videos. How will we be getting our Slezak fix over the summer though?? More America’s Next Top Doll videos – please, pretty please!!
Slezak, for once I got through one of your Idol videos. Do you know that you’ve lost a ton of readers this season because of your bias against Archuleta? I’ve considered cancelling my magazine subsciption in protest, but reminded myself that I’m not twelve years old, but an adult fan of a boy who shows potential for greatness in the music world.
I have to agree with you Slezak, I just don’t get David A. He has a nice voice, but he irritates the crap out of me. I can’t stand him (and no, I don’t think you’ve lost a lot of readers because of that. You can have your opinion and people can disagree, that’s the nature of it, Kathy). I also LOVE your Idolotry videos, they are smart and funny. I have wasted many a work day watching your videos, so thank you!
I don’t understand how there are David A fans who actually like music. He’s so awkward it’s painful. He’s totally robotic. He doesn’t have any rhythm. He never met a run he didn’t like. He is just too young. And I’m a musician myself, but I don’t get why everyone loves his voice. It’s just not worthy of the praise everyone dumps on him. They laud him and give him a free pass every week, I’m convinced, for only one reason: his non-sexually-threatening babyface will sell records. But that doesn’t mean he’s any good.
To Kathy: I have to disagree with your statement. As evidenced by the comments here, I don’t think Slezak has lost readers because he doesn’t like D’Archie. That is just silly, over-reactive BS on your part. Stop reading Slezak’s posts and TV Watch’s if you don’t like him. Simple as that.
I can not believe that the judges keep force feeding little David A–down our throats the way they do. He is definitely waaaaaayyyyy overrated by the produceers and judges alike. I don’t know why they are so convinced that this kid will sell a lot of records. He’s way to boring and not a great “performer” I wish he would have been gone weeks ago. But the producers will push who they want to push…..

I say thank goodness for Dave Karger! EW is pretty much anti-David A. zone. I know people apparently don’t want to hear that, but I stopped coming here to read the reviews because there was a total disconnect between what I was feeling when David A. sang and what Slezak was writing. I only came here today because somebody told me there was an actual David A. defense in the Idolotry video. I get that Slezak can have his own opinion-and that’s fine-but it had gotten to the point where the criticisms each week became inconsistent with the ones the previous week (is he too mature or too Disney?). I just became disheartened with it all. I love David A.’s performances; I feel a connection when he sings. And tons of people feel the same way. I was just surprised one existed in EW’s offices.
David C. is a seasoned performer (radio-ready). David A. is raw talent-a little goofy, but with more ability in his one good vocal cord than most people’s two good vocal cords. AI has become less interesting because most of the contestants are too ready for prime time. David C. is already there-why care? David A. is trying hard to progress, to change, to be more than he already is. That’s the type of contestant I root for-the one that has the potential to be greater. It’s old-school AI. Kelly and Carrie-while they were on AI, they were unseasoned, un-ready. But it was the potential that drew people in. Why people, all of a sudden, want to back a horse that doesn’t need backing is beyond me. He sounds exactly like the lead singer of a band I’ve already heard. Which is great for him, but not so fun for me to watch.

I think the show is in trouble because the themes and how late in the season the artist-specific ones have been. I had high hopes for this season when they revamped Hollywood week, but its almost like an obligation to watch anymore, and that’s inbetween innings and pitching changes for me. I am honestly looking forward to this week’s theme because the final four will have an honest chance to do their best. I’d rather have to make my decision based on 4 really strong performances than based on who sucked the most.
Soundscene: I see what you’re saying, but the difference between Kelly and D’Archie is that I believed it when Kelly sang. Whichever song she sang, the emotion behind it seemed pure and believable. No matter how good he sounds (which is often), I just don’t believe D’Archie when he sings. To me, he seems like a little kid trying hard to be a grown-up, but lacks the real-world experience to actually understand and convey the proper emotion in the song. I also haven’t seen him or any other contestant give that truly “WOW” moment of the season. I find it very difficult to get behind any one performer this season, as no one has come out and just blown my socks off.
David Archuleta is a rare talent, a true musical soul. He has no pretence, just raw talents. Not everyone gets him, and that’s ok. Good luck David A!

A Cook/Castro finale would be the most exciting. I don’t get DA’s appeal. Sorry, I just don’t. He’s a kid,and, a very nervous, insecure one at that. And, shame on his parents for pushing this kid . Yes, he can sing, but,he is a total snoozefest. The psyche wards and rehab centers are full of child stars. He hasn’t even gone through puberty yet. A Cooke/Mercado finale? That’s just pure stupidty. I”m not sure she has a real fanbase. Until ALW week, she sold nothing on ITunes, and, sounded horrible during last week’s group number. She isn’t a recording artist. It doesn’t matter, because Cook is going to wipe the floor with anyone in the finale. And, no, I’m not a Cook fan. They aren’t going to have their Ruben/Clay repeat with the 2 Davids. It just isn’t going to happen. David A. is just way too boring, regardless of how well he can sing. He seems like a 12 year old maturity wise.

David A is a nice and sincere person with a great talent – but let’s face it – our society can’t stand anyone that’s nice – evil hates good – good bores and infuriates them.
soundscene- the only ‘disconnect’ that I see is between what david a. sings and the the reaction of Randy & Paula, he is truly awful, I can’t watch him when he sings. As for him being “raw’ talent, the boy has done star search and mini concerts for years- he has as much on stage experience as Cook, I feel kind of bad going on about how creepy David A’s is, because mostly it’s his parents fault, I cannot imagine why they won’t let their son just be a kid, I guess they want to ride the gravy train. AI really needs to raise the age to 18 so we don’t have to watch a child go through something like this again.
D.Arch is a talent no doubt but too young , too underdeveloped and needs to wait for puberty so his voice changes and gets some strength. I’m sorry to say but his version of Diamond’s “America” was weak compared to the power and richness it screams out for. Yeah Cook is ready … thats why he deserves the opportunity.

To the non-DA supports… Yes, not everyone will love David A, but for all you who “hate” his voice, there is an equal number of people who happen to love the way he sings. You are correct that he is “raw”, but the fact also is he can only get better. Are we the only ones who have ears who can appreciate his music? seems like a lot of his mentors in the season love his voice too (their comments on AI to name a few – he’s been called a prodigy, he’s been described as a “musical soul”, his voice described as lovely and beautiful,he’s been accused of making someone cry and have false eye lashes fall). So i can respect that you don’t like his style of music, or singing, but hey, to each his own right? just please don’t make sweeping statements proclaiming your opinion as “fact”.
Dave Karger! Great comments and thank you for trying to explain what it is about David Archuleta that attracts so many different people. And it IS his raw talent that is exciting. His voice is different, and his musicality is wonderful. But that is something that is hard to appreciate. Phrasing, choice of notes, breath technique…that’s not sexy to most people. But it’s what makes a vocal artist. It doesn’t bother me that he’s 17. He’s not too young…He’s right where he should be. I have loved this season. I don’t want anyone to go home anymore. But anything other than an all David finale would be boring and predictable. Thanks Dave for sticking up for Archie over here!
Way to go, Dave Karger. Finally, someone who doesn’t have filters on when he watches Idol. DA has given some great, moving performances this year (Smoky Mountain Memories, to name one that doesn’t get enough recognition.) And while I still read Slezak, I don’t think he’s as perceptive as before. Presumably, he’s reading the coverage in his own magazine about the slack attitude of Jason Castro that many of us have felt for weeks. When Slezak talks about the “joy” in his voice…well, it just ain’t there. But it IS there with Achuleta. (And a final with anyone but the two David’s would have no suspense at all.)
Slezak you are seriously my hero for saying what everyone else is too scared to say….ARCHULETA SUCKS.
