There was something about her that I never enjoyed watching, so I don’t see it as a big loss. American Idol is boring this year, anyway.
“No matter how talented you may be, life will eventually come down to a popularity contest. (Although sometimes even the popular kids have cankles, if that’s any comfort.)”
It is definitely a comfort!
Wow, what you saw as passionate and unique, I saw as more of the same. Another really nice voice, a “belter”, who didn’t have anything more special or better than what Clarkson, Barrino or Underwood have offered in previous years. I’m mad that Syesha is still there, but Carly was going to go before the final three, why not make it the before final five? I don’t think America was put off by the tattoos. Uh, have you seen America lately? Everyone, including my 60 year old neighbor, has one. No one voted her off. She just didn’t generate the passion she needed to be voted IN.
All I can say is CARLY GOT ROBBED!! I was just barely hanging on watching this season (for Carly only) and now I finally have a reason to stop watching for good! Carly is still the best!
Brooke may not be the strongest singer, but she has IT. I don’t care if she sings or does her laundry on stage, when I first saw that girl take the walk to the top 20, I couldn’t look away. She’s got that Catherine Keener thing about her – in fact, Webber even said – the girl is an actress. I hope she considers that possibility. As for Carly, others here have said it. Unique? Since when are tats synonymous with unique-ness? Her style is boring. She sounds like a Celine wannabe. I am so tired of the mindless belting out of runs, etc. I’m really enjoying the subtle & quiet Castro. The tweens are voting & getting it right, however unwittingly.
I’m glad Carly’s gone just so EW will shut up about her and her out-of-breath screamy voice. Ug! She seems sweet but no thank you. As long as AI tones down the Archuleta pimping the season should be smooth sailing toward a D.Cook victory!
it was the song; if kristi stayed alive with “god bless the usa”, i think some people were put off with jc superstar, not understanding the context. that said carly has not idea who she musically which translates into odd performances. brooke and jason are one trick ponies (brooke will definetely record an album,; jason not so sure) syesha does music theatre. david a will turn into carly if he’s not careful. technically a very good singer and he bends every song to his will; medium slow ballad but ultimately if he doesn’t showcase something else, he becomes monotonous. an cd or concert of that would be dull. david c is the best showman; will he win? who knows. taylor hicks won and where is he today. no accounting for taste.
Why are people still interested in this show?? Why do people spend over 3 hours a week watching a nationwide karaoke contest??
#1 Carly never connected early on to establish a loyal following, she didn’t establish the emotional connection with fans early enough.
#2 As much as I hate to say it, her song choice – while a great choice for her voice – was not a wise choice to sing in a week that had a significant fan base looking for someone to support (Country music lovers – conservative, patriotic and bible belt types). It was a song to exclude that group while Brooke tugged at their heart strings and showed that she is a good (obviously Christian) girl who needs protecting once again – easy decision for them. Jason Castro – no idea why he stayed – he can’t even string a sensible sentence together, maybe his baby face and verbal struggles make people want to protect him?
#3 Syesha has not humanized herself either (Hollywood week vocal loss was a long time ago) she will go very soon.
Carly sang GREAT , but I really think she lost because of the song she sang ! – Some think Jesus Christ Superstar is offensive – she should have known better – a shame for an outstanding talent !!!
Brooke should have gone, but the “votefortheworst” people are at it again. Before, they were voting for Kristy Lee until she was eliminated, which explains why she stayed so long. Now they are voting for Brooke. Remember Sanjaya? They kept him going for a long time.
I’m not sure why the blogosphere is complaining that AI is “turning into” a popularity contest–it has ALWAYS been a popularity contest! Having star quality requires a combination of raw talent AND the “it” factor/charisma. Just having talent has never been enough–if you don’t have that intangible quality that makes people want to watch you and listen to you, vocal talent alone won’t put you on top. On American Idol, they are not really competing for title of “Best Singer”, it’s more like “Most Popular Artist”, hence the term “Idol”. Raw talent is only one component of that equation.
Perfect example: Jason has limited and somewhat weak vocals but he has a way about him that makes a lot of people want more. With Carly, she had a powerful voice but by the end of her performances we just ended up wanting less.
At this stage, they are all very good and better than previous years. With that being said, I believe Jason is the weakest link and his hair extensions should have gone before Carly however, I believe the top three are; David C, David A, and Brooke. Brooke has a unique rasp in her voice making her genuine. David Cook is probably the best overall artist.
Carly certainly does not deserved to go for her performance this week. Based on performance alone, she should have gone for her performance of “the show must go on”. She was so angry… she was chanelling Gene Simmons of KISS!
As to the comments on Leona Lewis, Bleeding Love does not showcase her talent at all. If you think Fantasia’s take on Summertime is amazing… you should check out Leona’s performance of the same song in X-Factor on youtube. Now that is the best performance of Summertime EVER!
Can everyone just calm down, breathe, and succumb to the realization that David A. is going to win? I have no sympathy for the “Carly fans” that never voted for her!
