brilliant installment of idolatry …’cause it said it all. Carly BEFORE the “mmmm’kay”, pout pout, shed a tear trainwreck that is Brooke? Awww, hell naw!!!

  • gramkracka

Mine would have included a teardrop.

  • Noel Brinkley

I am with you on that. It seems like the people voting are watching a different show than me. I voted for her about 50 times last night. Also Verizon Wireless was completely out of service in my area of Virginia during the voting process.

  • Noel Brinkley

I can not believe she went after that performance too. Michael Johns was tough but this is too much. I really feel like Brooke and Jason owe her big time. They both sucked in comparison to her.

  • MissDahlia

    OMFG.
I no longer have faith in the American public. So now we reward people for just trying real hard rather than having actual talent? Grrrrr….
So help me, if Brooke lasts for one more week I am DONE with you for the season AI. I’ll have to get my Cookie fix online rather than in glorious HD. And if Archie wins, I’m done with you FOREVER. For real this time, not like every other season when the people I root for don’t win.
PS- Slezak, that vid was brills.

  • H2

America, do you really think you are doing the right thing by Brooke? The lady is close to a nervous breakdown doing one song and now you expect her to do two? And face another elimination session and this time without even Carly to look after her? What are you thinking? Do her a favour and stop voting for her!

  • pede

Honestly, who is voting for Brooke? I mean, she was okay in the beginning, but now its like watching a trainwreck in slow motion. And I’m with MissDahlia all the way, if that Archiebot wins this season over David Cook I will not ever watch again. Because its all too obvious the producers are pushing him, but maybe, hopefully, the American public is catching on and putting their votes behind the only one left on the show with real talent, Mr. Cook.

  • Carli

Nice! But I would’ve made the thing more angry, because I’m more mad about this than sad. Absolutely ridiculous. If Cook doesn’t win this thing now…well, I don’t know what will happen but I’m not going to be happy about it!

  • Nix

Goes to show what I know. The one time I watch an episode, I make a prediction, the absolute opposite comes true. She may have deserved it before; she might have deserved it later; but Smithson did not deserve it for last night. The guilt Brooke is suffering must be overwhelming.

I was not a big fan of Carly, but I’m now convinced that this is the season where Idol has jumped the shark and it’s the beginning of the end for the show. Tonight’s results prove that the teeny-bopper vote has completely taken over and the show has lost all credibility as a genuine talent contest. And you know who I blame the most? SIMON. He has gone noticeably soft on people who clearly have no real long-term future in the industry but appear to be good for the show’s immediate, short-term ratings (i.e, pleasing the rabid Hannah Montana-demographic voting bloc). How else to explain the weekly free pass Simon has given to the tepid performances of charmless pod people like David Archuleta and Brooke White? Where was his scathing rebuke for the only two performers I can recall in the history of the show who so unprofessionally blew their lyrics on the main stage? This is the first season where Simon has proved to be an overtly corrupted, pandering hack for the producers. Shame on him.

I seriously don’t know what happened there. This is so wrong, in more ways than one. I have to say a tear (or two or three… ;D) fell down my cheek when I learned that she went home. And at first I was sad, frustrated and angry. But then I saw how she took it. How can I be angry, when Carly herself is smiling and joking? She’s just an amazing singer and she has such a wonderful personality. I’m thankful for every moment she has given us. I’m going to miss her, no doubt, this competition has lost something special. But I can’t help it, as much I feel sad about her leaving, I just have to smile when I listen to all of her studio versions of her performances (which I’m going to be listening to all the time throughout today ;D).
No doubt, though, America made a stupid decision!
If you talk to her today, Michael, please tell her she has a big and proud fan here in Norway. I can’t wait for her album, I have a feeling we’re going to be in for nothing short of stunning and magical!

    Absolutely Ridiculous!!!
I’m not a big Carly fan, but what a shame. Brooke and Jason should have been the bottom 2, and both could have been kicked off for all I care.
Might as well vote for Taylor Hicks next week… Idol has lost me as a fan the last 2 years.

  • Christina

Yep. Just add tears the size of Iceland, and that’s exactly how I feel.

  • Elizabeth

There wasn’t enough time to clip together a montage of sobbing/crying moments from movies? Yeah, I think I’m a little upset too, but more because this was such an awful theme. So, who’s gonna butcher “Sweet Caroline?” next week?

  • mel

I think maybe the fact that Carly doesn’t come from a ‘hometown’ community may also have something to do with her not getting enough votes. I’m sure Brooke has a whole town voting for her and possibly others. David A and Jason are getting the swooning girly votes. David C. gets his votes from people who recognize talent. Whatever the case, it’s really not about talent, it’s about being liked. They all have something to offer, they’re all really good, just different.

  • mj

I’ll feel the same way when Jason goes. I know he’s not the best singer but I “get him,” as you said in your recap the other day, Slezak. His will be the first AI record I buy.

  • collins

    i feel your pain, slezak.
    i. feel. your. pain.
carly’s angels all over the world crashed to earth last night, mouth agape at the absurdity of sending her home during broadway week. carly over worbly brooke and dreaded castro. based on *those* performances. seriously?
i think ms. houston was thinking of this very moment when she uttered the most prized phrase of injustice… hell to the no!

  • Nancy

I can’t watch the video at work, but I’m sure I agree with you. That was her best performance, and she should have stayed.

  • GeeMoney

They do this every season… America votes off the good singers and keeps the bad. So why do you people keep watching?
I was done with this craptacular show after Season 3.

  • NineDaves

slezak, can we form a support group. i’m a wreck over here.

  • mscisluv

I know EW loves to ignore them, but for those who want to know who is voting for Brooke: VFTW (Vote For the Worst).
And we better get a “real” Idolatry video this week!

  • tom

Vote for the Worst hasn’t got the ‘power’ they think they have. They’re just hacks who like to verbally abuse contestants and have an axe to grind. When AI is finished, so are they.

  • James Earl Fungus III

:-( What an outrage! Why must Carly Smithson get sent home, of all weeks, when she had one of her best performances. SHAME ON YOU AMERICA! *SPANK* But there is a bright spot. Being that Andrew Lloyd Weber suggested she sing Superstar maybe he will feel bad she got voted off, and perhaps give her a call, and perhaps want to work with her in one of his plays. I think there is something about this season that is just not right. No wonder the ratings are dropping a bit. To read more about that go here:

I can’t even pretend to be surprised. Brooke brings in the horny male viewers, and lil’ Dave brings in the naive, rabid, wouldn’t know talent if it smashed over their heads with a giant piano tweenage dopes who run up their parents cell phone bills texting in people who in all honesty, wouldn’t make it in the REAL music industry.
This is why I stopped watching after Kelly Clarkson. I started watching out of boredom and I became emotionally invested in someone like Carly. To see her lose out to someone like Brooke…all I can say is that at least as a lowerend loser on this show, Carly and Michael Johns have the best shot at legitimate NONamerican idol related recording careers. Maybe even pulls a JHud and bring in an Oscar. Either way, I think I’m done with this season. We all know Dave Cook is going to win, so why worry about the subsequent places?
Perhaps if the smart people will stop watching, the tweens will get the hint to put down the cell phones. Perhaps? I know, I’m dreaming…

  • Amber

I can’t believe Brooke didn’t go home–and wasn’t even in the bottom two? Who the hell is voting for her? She needs to go!

  • Christi

I really was shocked that she was eliminated over 2 much worse performances. jason was even yawning through the recap show on camera. Do you sense an upset coming? Maybe Archie will get eliminated? Don’t think so. there are no surprises left, just dull dull dull to come.

  • orville

I’m seriously done with Idol for the season now. Can’t muster up any sort of emotion for any of the rest. Even David C. I like him, but the Idol machine as it is now will chew him up and spit him out. It could possibly kill the spirit of anyone with true talent. David C. needs to go out and do his own thing. And Nancy–you can watch the video at work–there’s no sound. Just the silence of mourning.

  • Stef

My only comfort is that you feel my pain as well, Slezak.

  • Diane

Carly is so much more talented than Brooke, Jason and the Archiebot.

  • Lisa

    Yay!!!
Ding Dong the Witch is Dead! Which old Witch? The Carly Witch!
I’m sorry, she had absloutely no kinda connection with the audience. She doesn’t have the “It” factor. I’m so glad she’s gone. I did a victory lap around my apartment when Ryan announced it!
