I was laughing so hard I was crying while I read this. I’m sure that everyone near me in this library thinks I’m insane now but that’s fine.
Just my guesses as of today and I have no special knowledge. Perry Smith is announced as the winner of the AI song contest at the finale. Ryan Gillmor gets his record deal, if he doesn’t already have one. For some reason when I just posted my guesses on the AI forum, they were deleted along with the entire thread.
Amen to earlier comment by Anne Chow…
and here’s my two cents…
It’s incredible to me that some of you are so negative and bitter that you find the need to tear down the winning writers and their songs and the AI Songwriting contest in general. If you all spent as much energy improving your own songwriting abilities and working on getting your own songs out there and less energy trying to spread unsubstantiated accusations and degrade artists that have worked their entire lives to finally be recognized for their accomplishement, perhaps you too might have your song chosen by AI, or have a slew of hits out there being recorded.
It’s a sad state, that just because your song wasn’t chosen, you accuse a contest of being rigged…My friend ‘s song was chosen and I can assure you that he has no connection in any way to American Idol or Fox. Spreading your negative energy because you are a sore loser will only hurt you as you will only attract more negativity and things to complain about
I disagree Sandra and I think you misunderstand what some of those people are saying. They are just asking for accountability and that means outside auditing. I would ask you if you think its needed and if it has been provided?
Sandra- As I read your post from a logical point of view. I see you making some assumptions about some people’s motives or their current accomplishments or lack thereof. Unless you know them, from a pure debating point of view, your credibility is diminished. Those people who are asking for accountability appear to be asking reasonable questions. I looked it up on the internet and Ryan Gilmor is in the American Idol songwriting finals and has written or at least sings the song for a new FOX TV show. That is an undeniable fact. In any company I’ve worked for that’s a clear conflict of interest. If some of these people are asking for accountability and if it hasn’t been provided, it seems to me that you cannot denigrate their character or motives or make assumptions about their lives. Some very accomplished people demand fairness and accountability.
American Idol is the QUIZ SHOW scandal of the 21st Century. If you have a songwriting contest run on Tv where you have at least one weird coincidence, conflict of interest and darn poor judgement on the part of some Tv executives rolled into one, what else are they fooling with? The great United States of America needs a national media that we can trust to be open and honest and above suspicion. Now I am worried about FOX news too. Some else asked, WHERE IS THE FCC? Where is a single line Congressperson who is a PRFILE IN COURAGE? Asleep at the wheel as the watchdogs for the American consumers of information, it would seem. Save us FCC from suspicion at the very least and restore confidence!!!

Kevin J. Martin is the head of the FCC. If anyone is interested in asking the FCC to make sure anything that is broadcast on the airwaves owned by WE THE PEOPLE is legitimate.
I LOVE YOU BOTH! Thanks for a fun analysis!
I just finished judging a teen poetry/writing competition and I felt exactly the same way. Every poem overflowed with cliches, boring sentiments, and zero structure. I agonized over how to say a positive word about something so horrible. After my fellow judge finished reading the “poetry”, she came in, touched my arm and gave me that look of mutual shared suffering knowing I had not exaggerated the torture.
OMG. It’s just a song. Everyone knows it’s going to be corny and not memorable. The only song I remember is Kelly’s because it was actually good. In the end, even if you have connections to get a song chosen, the public still has to vote on it. May the best song or most popular song win. In the end, I don’t care, I’m not going out to buy the that song, I just want to buy some of the cd’s that the idols will eventually be putting out.
PROOF OF AMERICAN IDOL FRAUD!!!!
This is the second year in a row that American Idol has had a songwriting contest. Since the contest ended last year I’ve researched the contestants from last year and this year….FYI there were over 25,000 entries last year at $10.00 for each song. 20 songs were then chosen out of the 25,000 for an online vote. The winner’s song is then performed on the American Idol Finale. The problem I have is that one of THIS years Top 20 Songwriting Finalist is a Co-writer of LAST years Top 20 Songwriting Winner.
Somebody from American Idol has some explaining to do.
THERE IS A LOT, LOT, LOT MORE!!!!!
