Eric, you are right. Robin Williams’es Russian impersonation started when he did stand up in the late 70′s. From what I understand he based it on his relatives. His fake accent led to the movie Moscow on the Hudson but still it got old. Yaakov Smirnov who IS Russian pulled the same schtick in the early eighties, and it too got old. What made Borat funny was not Cohen’s accent, it was his sarcasim and of course the naked fight. The best part of Cohen’s film was that he was not speaking Russian to his partner, they both were speaking Hebrew.
Compared to what people laugh at today, which is basically hard core raunch, I suppose Williams is a bit behind in the ‘times’. But frankly, foul-mouthed and sex-laden raunchy comedy is getting really old. We’ve become a cold, depraved audience, don’t you think?
Come on people, he wasn’t that bad!
I will mention though, that I think he’s much better in serious roles. The same goes for Jim Carrey. They should stick to the dramatic stuff and avoid that stupid generic crap that passes as comedy. I also like Will Ferell in more serious stuff. His comedy is same old, same old. They all go ‘over the top’ a little too often, these comedy actors.
Robin Williams was funny for about five minutes. That was thirty years ago.
Robin Williams is the best there is and ever will be.. He is out of this world hilarious in everything he’s does. I enjoyed this and by all means i’d watch it again. He brings laughter to the world… Keep the laughs comming.
I agree the whole manic depressive is just DEPRESSING I wish someone would stick a tranquilizer gun up this guy’s ass and put him to sleep and out of our misery for good!
I love robin he is my fav actor out there. I dont think he cares if some people dont think he is funny there are more people out there that love him than think he isnt funny he is also richer than alot of people and if he wasnt that good than he wouldnt be getting movie roles they would think he isnt good enough to be in this movie. He is a great inspiration to me so everyone that hates him then keep your stupid coments to yourself its really pathetic.
