I agree about Magnolia.
I agree about Magnolia.
Without a doubt for me, Cold Mountain and Brokeback Mountain….
I agree wholeheartedly with “Your Friends and Neighbors.” Absolutely one of the most depressing movies I’ve ever seen — not one character is likeable or redeemable at all. To a person, I hated them all at the end I felt terrible that I’d spent the time watching it. Bleh.
So many of these films are among my favourites but The Sweet Hereafter, The Ice Storm and Palindromes are probably the ones I would like to suggest.
Kids.
To J: The Sea Inside is an excellent choice. One of the most beautiful movie I have seen, but you have to be in a good mood before you start, otherwise…
“Your Friends and Neighbors” is absolutely my least favorite movie of all time. I HATED it and I have disliked Catherine Keener ever since.
I agree with Schindler’s List. I would add Dead Man Walking and The Virgin Suicides.
There was a Christopher Walken movie back in the 80′s that did not end happily at all. I think it was called In The Company of Strangers. Also, that college based movie with James Van Der Beek, The Rules of Attraction, was so depressing.
“Requiem for a Dream” and “Dancer in the Dark” both leave me weeping. Like, not tears, but heaving, stuttering sobs. I own both of them, and will probably never watch either of them again.
I agree with “Kids” and “Welcome to the Dollhouse.” Bleak. But as far as a movie not only leaving me hopeless, horrified, stunned, and just flat out dirty – “Irreversible.” Good God.
oooh irreversible- good choice there kathleen.
I like “Ghost World” because it has a girl whose whole life falls apart after high school: friends, family and love are lost and it doesn’t have a very happy ending at all.
i’m gonna nominated Happiness as the most feel bad movie ever made. I dont think anybody can make you feel like s*** like Todd Solondz. Darren Aronofsky is another one. Requiem for a dream takes the cake we all agree but Pi and The Fountain didnt actually make me jump for joy.
