Life As A House
The Virgin Suicides
I haven’t seen these mentioned in recent posts. Good movies, but depressing…
The Weatherman
Angela’s Ashes
The Great Santini
Sid & Nancy
Little Children
Panic in Needle Park
Arlington Road – I really, really thought Jeff Bridges would prevail at the end of it and the bad guys would get caught but no, they threw in such a loop that you ended up sitting there saying to yourself “what the man just happened???”. I saw this in the theater and the whole audience just sat there stunned.
Gallipoli – it was a very quiet drive home from the theater for my friends an I after seeing that one.
Two great, horribly depressing films.
Breaking The Waves, Dancer In The Dark and The Hours.
Here’s a classic example: The late director Michelangelo Antonioni’s “L’Avventura” (1960). It’s about the search for a missing person, but the movie evolves into something very different and the mystery is never solved.
I don’t always want a Hollywood ending either — but the ending to “Arlington Road”?? Damn!!
Indeed. “Requiem for a Dream” should have been on my list as well as “Your Friends & Neighbours”. It was so hard to choose only 20.
Lars Von Trier is a mixed bag for me.

Boys Don’t Cry is one of the most devestating movies I’ve ever seen. Just when you think things are going to be good and Brandon (Hilary’s Swank’s character) and Lana (Chloe Sevingy) are going to be together, everything comes down. The fact that it was based on a true story makes it even more horrific to watch.
Monster and Requiem For a Dream. I’d like to elaborate but I seriously have no words to describe them.
