¡Ay caramba! According to Reuters, Venezuelan TV has pulled The Simpsons from its 11 a.m. slot, with the argument that the show is bad for children. Going up in its place: reruns of Baywatch Hawaii. Now, granted, kids can probably learn a lot more about some subjects (CPR, human anatomy) from the bouncing lifeguards than from the four-fingered toon family, but still, harmful for children? Why, look at the United States: for the past 18 years, an entire generation of American kids has grown up watching Bart’s mischief, and look at how they turned out…
Uh, never mind, Venezuela. Carry on.

Oh man that’s just ridiculous cause at 11 a.m. most of the children in my country are still at the school…
We have South Park in synication at 3 AM, and it’s edited for content. If you ask me, that’s dumber than showing Baywatch on at 11 AM.

just like here locally — we were one of the cities that the ABC station refused to show NYPD Blue for a looong time (show was way into the 2nd season before we got it) — but it was showing MARRIED WITH CHILDREN at 5:00pm!!!!
Anyone who’s ever seen a Latin American tv channel on a Saturday will be well aware that the sex and innuendo on most of the Super Sabado style variety programs is a significantly worse influence on children than the Simpsons.
In that same vein, it’s easy to understand why Brazil would give some love to Pamela Anderson and no love to Bart Simpson. Bikinis and sexy ladies are the norm on Brazilian TV. But apparently, teaching kids to question authority and make precocious observations is not acceptable on Brazilian tv.
Aich, I meant “venezuelan” tv. Chavez’s people must have put something in my coffee this morning…
